PASSING AWAY. ¡ Oh ancient hills, ye do not grow Grey in the lapse of years, Ohe*er-flowfng streams, your flow, l*o time-traced shadow bears. The sun shines bright as it has shone, Through every vanished day, The grass grows green as it has grown, Yet man has passed away. The morning showers its merry light, On glistening sea and shore, Moon's glow, and sunsets fade to night, As sweetly as before. The same wud wind yet sweepeth fleet, On wings that ne'er decay, "ftile human voices, music ssveet, Have pas&ed like sighs away. The same deep sky, the midnight sky, That chained in every age, The Painter's and tie" Poet's eye, Still spreads its glorious page Still, still each glorious star doth blaze, The mournful moon doth stray, ,:But Painter's gaze, and Poet's gaze, Oh they have passed away. Ye do but mock us, changeless things, Ye do but mock our doem, Because to us time ever brings, The death-word and the tomb. Because our youth, our joy; our hope, All that our hearts would stay, All that we love with change must cope, Must die, and pass away. Tredegar, July 23, I860. WILLIAM WYLIE. 4r DIRWEST.
