^BSCSSS(S^S5I521BSI^ COLCHESTER ELECTION. Polling commenced at Colchester at eight o'clock on Tuesday for the election of a member of Parliament for the borough in the room of the late Colonel Trotter (Conservative. The candidates were Lord Brooke (Conservative) and Sir William Brampton Gurdon (Gladstonian Liberal), and both were early in attendance at the polling booths. The nominal electorate is 4,241, hut this is much reduced by deaths ana removals. The .following is the result:— Brooke (C.) 2,126 Gurdon (G.) 1,687 Maioritv 439 The Conservative majority at the last election was 166.
