GLASGOW ELECTION. The polling in the by-election for Central GTasgow took place yesterday, and resulted as follows Scott Dickson (C) < Gibson Bowles (L) 5,15 Majority 2,113 At the general election the Liberal majority was 431, and in 1895 there were a Conservative majority of 1,829.

Lord Kenyon presided at the bav- of the Liverpool Welsh National Soci- at tbe Adelphi Hotel, and the guests iucluded the Lord Mayor and Sir E. Kussell, said it was very difficult to know what part of the subject of Wales to address one's self to, but in the city of Liver- pool they had at least one common bond of union, and that was Liverpool drew its water supply from Wales--hear, bear. There was another bond of union, and that was the noble generosity of some of the Liverpool people to some of the Welsh institutions. The president of the Bangor University College he succeeded was a Liverpool citizen, Mr Wra. liathbone, a name as much honoured in Wales as in his own city of Liverpool. He gave them the first note to carry their w..rk on with hopefulness, and it was the feeling that he was their friend that directed their ideas and thoughts to Liverpool.
