FOOTBALL,
FOOTBALL, TOWN v U.C.W. Tlv; Town team had a return match with the Col- lpge oD¡ the letter's ground on Saturday, the result beincr, pad to relate, that thf-y had a thoroughly good drubbing. And the surprise is all the gre^tsr be- caus', a few weeks ago, the town obtained a respect- able win gainst the students on the town ground. In pu iiminary stages the play was somewhat of h, j^ive-aud-take character. Then followed several good attacks on the college defence, which Roose d'-alt w,th in the cool and confident style with which we are all familiar. Subsequently the College secured hands well down the field. Dr Moorman receiviu" the kick and sending the ball swiftly be- t, e,ii the p-.i-ts, this being the Collegians' first goal. T" n J. Jones and Morcona got possessions, J. H. I'J iw.tr> '<:u mutely taking a pass from their wing. ii. r'v t int.) the goalmouth, but Roose proved im- pa>s.l- For a short space Wynne Evans and his partner 101 the field, the pace being stopped by W. K. Jor.es. The town obtlined a throw-in near the corner-(!ag, but nothing tangible resulted. After- wards 1\ M. Jones and Dr Moorman turned the play, and Waterhouse getting possession kicked the ball over the goal line. Some strong kicking by M. T. VVilliiims kept the ball well into the town end, making things dangerous. However. Morcom re- lieved. This was succeeded by a good run down the field by D. M. Jones, who centred to Lewis, the latter kicking the second goal. Before the first half nonclnded, M. T. Williams pleased hia sup- porters with several pretty things in the way of back kicking, and D. Morgan contributed a splendid shot for* the College crossbar. In the second half there is nothing much to be done except to record goals and attempts to get them on the pa.rt of the students. N t very long after the recommencement, D. M. Jones scored the third College point, and the fourth came out of a scramble Waterhouse scoring the fifth, and Lewis the sixth. Final score- College 6 goals. Town nil. Needless to Fay that the town team, who, how- ever, were not fully represented, Morris being absent for one, were a comparative failure. All the students without exception played a good game, Roose, M. T. Will ams, Lewis, and Barlow Williams being perhaps the pick. The teams were as follow :— COLLEGE. Goal, Roose; backs, M. T. Williams and Mellor half-backs, J R Blackhurdt, Barlow Williams, and Brownlee forwards, D. M. Jones, Waterhouse, Dr Moorman, J. Lewis and Wynne Evans. Linesman, Mr Fotheringham. TOWN. Goal, Rumsey Williams backs, W. R. Jones and Edwards; half-backs, Green, D. Morgan and S. Morgan; forwards, J. F. Jones, Morcom, Edwards, Jenkins and Rea. Linesman, Mr Samuel. The referee was Mr Thorpe. CITY BOVERS V CONGREGATIONAL UNITED. These teams met at Penparke on Saturday, when the United proved victors by three goals to one. BORTH V CELTS. A match played at Borth on Saturday resulted in a win for the Celts by four to two. CONGREGATIONAL RESERVE V YSTWYTH RANGERS A match on the former's ground came off on Satur. day the Rangers beating by six goals to nil. INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL V NORTH BND ROVERS. A match was played on the ground of the former on Saturday, and resulted in a win for the school by 6 goals to two. The scorers for the school were Scholls (3), S. Peake (2), I. Evans (1). The team of the school was-Goal, W. Price; backs, W. Nixon. and W. P. Fuller half-backs, Aylmer Green J. H. Phillips (capt) and D. T. Oliver forwards, E. R. Evans, Ivor Evans, E. Seholls, Stanley Peake and F.van Davies. CORINTHIANS V CAMBRIAN NEWS." On Plascrug Flats on Saturday, the Corinthians winning, the score being 3 goals to 2.
- REPAIRING THE MACHINE.
REPAIRING THE MACHINE. WE never wonder when we see a machine gradually wearing out. Wo expect it. If it should run year after year, and show no signs of wear— well, we should wonder at that. Constant friction destroys the substance of a wheel or an axle, and it is never replaced. When the time comes there must be a new wheel or a new axle. The human body is a machine, built to run with- out stopping for an instant. For if it stops once, there is no way to start it again. Hence it must be repaired while in motion. And is it ? The material for this purpose v. e take into our stomach as food. Sometimes we are silly enough to imagine that nature maker; it necessary to eat that we may have the pleasure of eating. Put the case the other way, and you will have it right. It is necessary to eat in order to repair the body, to replace waste material; and she makes the act pleasant so we may not neglect it. That's the idea. Thus we go on. Nerves, muscles, bones, and flesh wear out gradually, and are replaced as fast as they wear out. So we get to regarding our bodies as indestructible-the same thing, you know, right along. About once in seven years the body is completely changed. It isn't the same one you had. But you never noticed when one went out and the other came. But when a person talks like this, what is the matter ? "I got dreadfully thin and was gradually wasting away." A woman says it-Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Roberts, of the Temperance Hotel, 51, Market Street, Holyhead, in a letter dated June 22nd, 1893. This wasting goes with different diseases, and always with consumption. It is fatal then, to be sure. We all know that. The doctors have not yet found any wry to cure it. We should be glad indeed if they could cure it. For oh; how many perish from it; they fall like grass before a scythe. Well, Mrs. Roberts goes on to say:—"All who saw me thought I was in a decline. I was very low-spirited and tormented with groundless fears, and I became so nervous that I could not bear the slightest noise. Later on, a dry, hacking cough set in, accompanied by night sweats. In this con- dition I continued year after year. I took various medicines, including cod liver oil, but they did me no good. I saw doctor after doctor, but they gave me no hope of recovery. When I was 24 years of age two doctors told me I was in a consumption, and nothing could be done for me. This made me give up all hope, and I got weary and tired of life. But I dragged along at one time able to be about, and again having to lie helpless on the couch." In Thus far we perceive that Mrs. Roberts seemed to have all the symptoms of consumption, and probably no doctor would have taken any other view of her case. In fact, judging by the signs, what other view was it possible to take ? Still, before we approve that verdict, let us read the beginning of her letter, and then the end of it. We have as yet read only the middle of it. From childhood," she says, I was never strong—always tired and weakly. I had a poor appetite, bad taste in the mouth, pain at the right side, and frequent palpitation of the heart. Often I could not stand for giddiness, and I fainted with the least excitement." This was up to time the apparent signs of con- sumption were apparent. What followed that, we know. Now for the end :—" In April, 1891, I got a bottle of Mother Seigel's Curative Syrup, and began to use it. This I did because I read of cases like mine having been cured by it. I bought the mcdicine from Mr. Wilson, Drug Hall, Holyhead. In a few days I felt a little relief. My appetite was better and my food agreed with me. I kept on taking it, and slowly, but surely, regained my strength, and in three months I felt better than ever in my life before. Since then I have been in good health, and able to do any kind of work. I desire others to know what has given me back my life and health. You may print this statement and I will answer all enquiries." Now what have you to say ? Her disease was not consumption, was it ? No, not at all. But it was indigestion and dyspepsia; from inherited tendency, no doubt; a disease which so closely resembles con- sumption that even skilled physicians are constantly deceived and treat it wrongly-alas! with, too often, fatal results. Assisted by Mother Seigel's Syrup, which corrected the torpid stomach and liver, and expelled the poison from the blood, nature re- built her wasted machinery, put back the warm flesh upou the bones, filled the muscles with new vigour, and said to the aforesaid sufferer, Now live, work, and be happy! What a disease to watch out against! What a remedy to cure it when ignorance or negleot baI tUowed it to fecure »lodgment J
