CRICKET.
CRICKET. U.C.W. v. CERRDIOION. Played on the Lawn Tennis ground on Saturday iast. Tbe Town had a poor team. Rowe won the toss for the College, and elected to bat. A sensational start w»s made. Three wickets fell for three runs, and four for s-ix. Mosoley and D. E. Evans made I& flight stand, the former making ]2 and Evans 11, the latter a carefully compiled innings. The total reached 52. Jaeger and A C. Powell bowled un- changed. The town did not stand very well, four wickets falling- for 23 runs. Hero Stone joined Japger, and the total was gradually raised to 44, or nine runs to win with six wickets to fall, when Evans upset Jagger's wicket. The outgoing batsman had contributed 21 in first-rate style without a chance. A series of disasters now befel the Town. Stone was bowled by Farmer for 14, and J. R. Evans quickly disposed of the remaining batsmen, the last wicket falling at 50, the College winning by two runs, after a.n exciting finish. J. R. Evans took eight wickets (all bowled) for 17 runs, and the College has evidently a good bowler in the person of this player. Full score:— tl. C, W. J. J_S; Rowe, b Jagger 2 T. Both matches to be played at Aber- ystwyth. U.C-W. V. OSWESTET HIGH SCHOOL (PAST AND PREWLKT). Played on Whit Monday on the Gollege ground. The visitors won the to.5S and took first innings, play commencing shortly after noon. Two good old boys —Hnghes and Gough of the Oswestry C.C. were playing for their old school. Jenkin3 and J. R. Evans both bowled well, and Hoehes (24) alone reached double figures, the total only reaching 46. U.C.W. went in and made 49 for one wicket, bnt at this point Joues went on bowling, and a complete collapse ensued. The inning?, which promised to be a long score, closed for 72. Dawes zuid Rowe both played well for 27 and 21 respectively. In the second innings the High School did much better, and gave the homo team a lot ot trouble. Hughes (z7) a«-ain distinguished himself, and Douglas, Gough "and Joues also batted well. Rowe took the last three wickets wi h successive kills, and thus performed the "hat trick." The total reached 77. This left U.C.W. 52 to get to win, and the.e were hit off for the loss of six wickets. Dawes, Hinchco and Rowe were the chief scorers. U.C.W. therefore won by four wickets. ST DAYID'S COIXKGE, LAMPETKS. Played at Lampeter on Wednesday. U C.W. went down three short, but made up their eleven by means of the umpire, scorer, and a substitute from S.D.C. school. One of the absentees was J. R. Evans, the College best bowler, who wrought such havoc with the Lampeter wickets at Aberystwyth. Played on the "round of the latter on Wednesday last, and resulted in a victory for Ardwyn by three runs. Appeletou, Windsor and J. K. Griffiths played best for the losers, and Waters, W. G. Jones and D. Thomas for the winners. The school not having the best eleven up were obliged to find substitutes. ST. DAVID'S. COLLEGE C.C. V. WAUNIFOE. A cricket match between teams respresenting St. David's College, Lampeter and Wannifor was played on Saturday on the ground of the former. Drizzling rain in the morning made it difficult to score, and the day was quite in favour of the bowlers, and no high scores were consequently made. As there was no time to play two innings each, the collegians were beaten by five runs, on the first innings, thus show- ing that the opposing parties were nearly equal. We understand that the return match will be played next Wednesday. Score :—Waunifor, 56; S.D.C., 51.
