The Ore sold in 1867 was 374 tons, realized £4,900 lis. 9d., at an average offl3 2s. per ton the sales of the different quarters of the year just ended have been.— _-n, Tons. Cwts. The Dividends paid during the year have amounted tofl,o-W 10 per Cent. on £12,000 paid-up Capital. Total sum paid in Dividends, .M.S-W. The position of the Company and the prospects of the Mine are alike most satisfactory; and, notwithstanding the extent of de- velopment which has been carried out during the last twelve ifonths, the balance to the credit of the Company, after paying £ 1,200 in Dividends to the Members, is greater by X188 3s. 3d. than on the 31st December, 1867. EMIGRATION AND DISEASE. THE TWIN ANTIDOTES. Before the discovery of the gold mines, in 1852, Australia was considered the healthiest country in the world. The pursuits of the inland settlers were purely pastoral, their habits simple, and di-sipation almost unknown. But the excitement, the licence, the exposure, the hardships, which have accompanied the deve- lopment of our mineral resources, have had their effect upon the health of our population. Fortunately, the mighty rush of emigration brought with it the most efficient antidotes to every species of physical ailment and disability with which science hils blessed the world. We refer to the remedies discovered by Professor Hotloway. and which are now the household medicines of rich and poor in every land. While Australia was yet a strictly agricultural colony, their properties were neither un- known nor unappreciated here, but it was not until the tides of emigration from all quarters of the globe began to now in upon us that we understood the full value of these preparations. The motley multitude brought into them new elements of disease and death. They pitched their tents by thousands on the nl_(' unwholesome tracts; they pursued their cosnmon avocation, ne accumulation of gold, without regard to Ihe preservation ot ftat health without which it is worthless. Their habits, t"*1' ante- cedents, their wild thirst for wealth, their scanty supplies, the want of clothing suitable to the variations of the chmnte, and the promiscuous manner in which they were huddled to- gether, en masse, under insignificant shelter, all tended to render them peculiarly susceptible to endemic complaints, and to endanger dangerous epidemics. But, following immediately in their track, as if by a special interposition of Providence, came large importations of Holloway s Ointment and Pills. The distinguished inventor well knew that a grand tidd for their benign operation was opened by the gold discoveries, and he hastened to supply the "ant which his experience and foresight taught him must exist.. ince that time the demand for them has increased with unexampled rapidity. And what has been the result? The scorbutic complaints, which threatened to decimate the population of the gold districts are now rapidly controlled by the joint action of these two remedies. The erup- tive and ulcerous maladies which at one time were all but uni- versal at the diggings havettost their terrors. Wounds of a nature which under other treatment would terminate in gangrene, are now healed almost without inconvenience, and the terrible bilious disorders and bowel complaints which prevailed in every Cantp between latitudes 25° and 32°, are now mastered by a course of the Pills within a week or a fortnight after the first dose is taken.—Melbourn e Paper.

KITCHEN GARDEN. There is little to be done this month, except digging and manuring. It is well to trench the ground where crops have been removed late in the summer. Prepare dung for hot beds make new ones and attend to those previously made. Attend to lettuces and cauli- flowers nnder frames. Early frame and Charlton peas, long-pod beans, radish and cos-lettuce, may be got in where the situation is southward and dry; guard the peas and beans by drawing a little earth to each side of the drills, and from mice and slugs by strewing quick-lime over and around. A covering of fern or straw will protect radishes, lettuce, or parsley, from forst.
