NANTEOS RENT A UDIT.-On Monday and Tuesday last the Rent Audit of the Nanteos Estate was held, when the tenants were regaled with a substantial dinner, provided by the Hostess of the Skinners' Arms Inn, in this town, the Agent, Thomas Wells, Esq., presiding. The evening of each day was pleasantly spent, during which several toasts were given arid drunk; and the company broke up at a seasonable hour. CONCERT.—On Tuesday last, Mr. John Roberts and his talented daughter-the original Cambrian Minstrels-gave a Concert at the Assembly Rooms, in this town, which was well attended, and which gave universal satisfaction. Miss Roberts's singing was much admired, and her songs of "Bore glas" and Clychau Aberdovey," sung in Welsh, were received with bursts of applause. The duet" Hob y dery dando," by Mr. and Miss Roberts was loudly j encored. Mr. Roberts's perttemance cm the violin (was all that could be desired; and his imitation of a 'Hhttd crying and mother singing was well render- m. We believe it is the intention of Mr. Roberts'] to reside permanently in the place, and that he | purposes giving private lessons on the harp and violin. Weyaiso understand he will be happy to i attend publicaTtrhprtvate parties or moderate terms. 71 EARLY CLOSING.—We understand that a petition j is being taken round to receive signatures amongst j the drapers' assistants in this town, praying the ) employers to close the shops at an earlier hour, in order to afford them a little extra time for bodily recreation and mental improvement. DUBLIN MARINE BOARD, July, 1858.-An ex- amination for certificates of Competency in Naviga- tion and Seamanship was held before Capt. Maclean, R.N., the examiner at the Marine Board, on the 1st and 2nd instant, when the following were found duly qualified for the rank of Only Mate (the highest rank attainable on first examination):—Mr. Richard Osborue Mills, a native of London, and Mr. EbeM#jr John Jones, Jasper House, in this town. COMMISSIONERS' MEETING.-The usual monthly meeting of this body was held on Tuesday last, at the Town Hall. Present—John Jenkins, Esq., (chairman,) Messrs. J. Jones, P. Williams, C. Hackney, T. Jones, R. Watkins, D. Williams, R. Morris, E. Rowland, J. Rees, and E. W. Jones. Several bills were examined and passed, and were ordered to be paid. The bad state of the drainage on Lewis Terrace (complained of) was ordered to be attended to by the Street Committee, and to report thereon at their next meeting. The Turncock was ordered to have the water extended to Mr. J. Evans's Shipbuilding Yard, Mr. Evans agreeing to pay for the use of the same. The Clerk said that since their last meeting he had spoken to Mr. Bonsall; and that he was willing to grant to the Commissioners the use of the water in his field, above the Workhouse, at the annual rent of jE5, but to be stipulated that sufficient water be left tor the use of the tenant and the Workhouse; which was agreed to. Mr. D. Williams called attention to the dilapidated state of the wooden bridge across the milldam, which he considered dangerous to grown-up people as well as children. Mr. Watkins suggested that they should erect a cast-iron one instead of the present bridge. Mr. J. Jones proposed that the present one be temporarily repaired, which being seconded, was agreed to. Licences were granted for the season to parties having Bathing Machines on the beach. Parties living at Tanycae who objected to pay the water rent, were ordered to do so forthwith. The walks on Plascrug were ordered to be gravelled. Mr. Hackney said that complaints were made of the scavenger not watering the Terrace during the late dry weather; and he also complained of the general neglect of the same individual in leaving cabbage leaves and straw for days about the market place. Mr. Rowlands thought that parties should not be allowed to sell fish, &c., by the Clock Turret. The Chairman thought it very requisite that a market for the sale of fish should be built, as it was a nuisance to exhibit them for sale in places of that sort. Mr. J. Jones thought that the site of Mr, Lewis Jones s Warehouse would be an appropriate place to build a Fish Market, and gave notice that he would bring the question before the board at the next meeting. The footpath in front of Mr. John Watkins's Wine Vaults was ordered to be flagged, Mr. W. to be at half the expense. The Street Committee presented a tender, which they had accepted, from Mr. Lewis Evans for Railing the Castle Grounds with oak posts and iron rails, at an expense of about £20. Mr. Watkins thought that the Street Committee had no right to accept a tender for such an amount without first consulting the other Commissioners, at a meeting, and that those parts which required railing could be done at a much less cost. After a few words from Afr- Hackney in defence of the Street Committee, the < meeting was adjourned. LLANBADARN-FAWR.—A vestry was held in the vestry room of this church on Friday, the 2nd inst., for the purpose of levying a rate upon the parish- ioners for defraying the necessary expences of the church for the current year,—the Rev. J. Hughes, Vicar, in the chair. It was proposed by T. W. Wells, Esq., and seconded by Mr. Evan Killin, that a rate of Id. in the pound be made; which was carried. LLANRHYSTID.—CLERICAL MEETING.—A Clerical Meeting was held at this place on Tuesday and Wednesday last, when the following clergymen officiated .—Tuesday, at half-past 6, p.m., the Revds. W. Evans, Silian, and J. Jones, (Idrisyn,) Llan- dyssil. Wednesday, at half-past 10 a.m., the Revds. H. Morgan, Aberayron, and J. Edwards, Llanfi- hagel-yeroth. At half-past 2 p.m., the Revds. J. P. Morgan, Llanidloes, and Howells, Neath. There was a good attendance of hearers, and the preaching was impressive and edifying. LLAMLAR. PETTY SESSIONS.—These sessions were held on the 2nd inst., before G. W. Parry, W. Cham- bers, and W. E. Richardes, Esqrs. T. Edwards, a chimney sweeper, charged Elizabeth Williams and Sarah Jones with having lighted a quantity of straw underneath him whilst up the chimney, and thereby endangering his life. The case having been proved on oath, the defendants were mulct in the sum of 10s. and costs. Morgan Morris was charged by P. C. Morgan with furious driving on the 21st ultimo. Fined .5s. and 12s. costs. No other case of importance was brought before their worships. MERIONETHSHIRE. Williams, Esq., Coroner, I and a respectit-leleiry-Mr. Adam Hunt foreman— when a verdict in accordance with the above facts was returned. TOWYN.—VENTKILOOCISM—Mr. M. CORRESPONDENCE. To the Editor of the Aberystwith Observer. SIR* R understand that the Town Commissioners intend to improve the footpaths of the streets, and to place rails round the dangerous precipices of the Castle, both of which are greatly to be desired as well for comfort as for safety. I beg leave to suggest that the Commissioners extend their usefulness by visiting the courts and smaller streets in the town, to see that the are properly cleansed. A RATEPAYER. Aberystwith, July 6th, 1858.
