PRESTATYN COUNCIL.
PRESTATYN COUNCIL. A summary of the business transacted by the Council during the past month, as shewn in the printed minutes, is as follows PUBLIC HEALTH MATTERS. The Inspector had reported in committee that the district remained free from infectious diseases. In company with the Medical Officer of Health he had made an inspection of the slaughter houses, and had drawn atten- tion to certain necessary improvements, which had since been attended to. With regard to a letter received from Messrs Hughes and Gasquoine complaining of an alleged nuisance, the Council undertook to attend to the matter. THE PROPOSED LIGHT RAILWAY. With regard to the above, the Surveyor's report was as follows :— "I have carefully gone through the Light Railway proposed Order, and think that the Council's interests have been safeguarded in regard to the roadway, sewers, water mains, and services, also the position of standards, &c., most of the sections dealing with these subjects being adopted from the Tramways Act, 1870, in their entirety. The only point which strikes me is the width of the road in places, in one instance being only 19 feet 6 inches from kerb to fence. As the length of the Victoria Road in your area is only about 500 yards, I think it would be very injudicious to permit any loops along this length unless the promoters are prepared to make a road a minimum width of 36 feet for the entire length of such passing place or loop." It was resolved that the matter be left over until the Engineer has had an interview with the Council. THE PARLIAMENTARY BILL. It was recorded that at a special meeting of the Council, a resolution was adopted to affix the seal of the Council to the petition for leave to introduce a Bill in Parliament for the purchase by*compulsion or agreement of the undertaking of the Prestatyn Gas Company, etc., etc. THE PLEASURE GROUND. On the proposition of Mr Thomas Jones, seconded by Mr T. Parry Williams, it was decided that the seal of the Council be affixed to the agreement between Lady McLaren and the Council for a lease for a term of three years, from the 30th day of November, 1908, for a certain plot of land abutting on Bastion Road, for lawn tennis and pleasure ground. MISCELLANEOUS. An amended plan in regard to the new 0 houses to be built in Marine Road for Mr John Williams was approved." The estimate for the proposed water main extension along Victoria Road was deferred, pending another survey to the bungalows on the road to Meliden. It was resolved that the Surveyor be in- structed to inspect and report as to the pro- priety of additional lamps in Linden Walk.
WORKERS AND SHIRKERS.
WORKERS AND SHIRKERS. All work, since work is a sincere function of the inmost soul, must be original and in the Scheme no man can work for another. The real worker (unless talking happens to be his work) will never deprive a brass monkey of its nose; he is usually, but not always, modest in demeanour but he is rightly proud in his own conceit. He knows his worth and his infrequency. And perhaps his chief pleasure, after the terrible pleasure of work, is a malicious and silent contempla- tion of the fact that he is surrounded by shirkers.
CABBAGE PATCH PHILOSOPHY.
CABBAGE PATCH PHILOSOPHY. On Commonsense. You can coax a' elephant with a little sugar. The worser Mr Wiggs used to act, the harder I'd pat him on the back. No matter bow bad he done, be always tried to do better. Friends," sez he, my tex' is Chilblains." They ain't no use preachin' religion to men whose whole thought is set on their feet. There's all sorts of Christians some stand fer sunshine, some fer shade some fer beauty, some fer use some up high, some down low. There's jes' one thing all the flowers has to unite in fightin' ag'inst—that's the canker- worm, Hate. If it once gets in a plant, no matter how good an' strong that plant may be, it eats right down to its heart. There ain't no use in me teachin' what they done a thousand years ago, when you ain't got manners 'nougli to listen at what I'm say In'. I hold that it's wrong to keep ever'thing bottled up inside you. Yer fellin's is like ras'berry vinegar if you're skeered to use 'em an' keep on savin' 'em, first thing you know they've done 'vaporated She's good an' she's smart, and some of her sharp corners '11 git pecked off afore her hair grows much longer. The plainer you are the better chance you have of being good. Now the Lord meant you to be plain. If be had meant you to have curls he would have given them to you. Frum "Mrs Wijtgs, of the Cabbage Patch."
