CHRISTMAS GOSSIP.
CHRISTMAS GOSSIP. Preparations for Christmas have so much occupied the minds-and the pockets--of householders, that gossip has been scarce this week. The talk has been that some Prestatyn tradesmen seem to be too busy to make much display in their windows, but that if the palm is to be awarded, the meat purveyors have won it. It was remarked that the front of one of these establishments carried such an assemblage of turkeys, geese, and other mis- cellaneous fowl, that the appearance of St. John's Market, Liverpool, at this season of the year was forcibly brought to mind. It was also noticed that another enterprising shopkeeper displayed to public view a long row of young porkers intended to assuage the Xmas appetite, and that a third showed sides of beef of immense proportions. Coming to public affairs, the proposed gas purchase and Sunday tram-running have monopolised ratepayers' attention. Regarding the latter the indifferent attitude of the Urban Council was a matter of some wonderment. The gossip was that even if nothing was done they might have given the Free Church Council deputation the courtesy of a hearing. On the other hand it was affirmed that the F.C.C. itself mistook somewhat the functions of the U.D.C. in their application that the standing of the F.C.C. on this matter was equal in every respect to that of the U.D.C. and that the proper course of the F.C.C. was to oppose the proposal at headquarters when the time came. Temperance people said that if Sunday trams were allowed, a great impetus would be given to Sunday drinking here that everyone knows the habits of thirsty souls domiciled in Rhyl and that the Sunday traveller" would find the tramway to Prestatyn very convenient.
THE TRAMWAY TO RHYL.
THE TRAMWAY TO RHYL. To the Editor of the Prestatyn Weekly." Sir,—Judging from the correspondence which has for some time appeared in the Prestatyn Weekly," every section of the inhabitants complain against the introduction of the tramway. The residential class are against it. The traders say it will ruin them. The cabdrivers, particularly those plying on Bastion Road, say it is ruination to them, without prospects of compensation. The property owners on the line of route say it means depreciation of their property. The latest aspect of the question is the running of trams on Sunday, and this is apparently not opposed by the U.D. Council. The deputation from the Free Church Council was severly snubbed by the Urban Council at its meeting on Monday. By a majority they declined to receive the deputation, an act so discourteous and so unjust that even the Czar of Russia would not dare to commit. The Council appear to be pledged to support the running of trams on Sunday, and they fear to meet a respectable deputation, all ratepayers. Every interest which has made Prestatyn what it is is to be sacrificed. Our roads are to be handed over to speculators whose only interest here is "dividend." Our Sundays, the quietitude of which has been our boast, is to be turned into days of selfish pleasure and revelry such as are to be seen on the Continent. Prestatyn should be roused at once. Feeling is already running high. We are waiting for a lead.-Yours etc., RATEPAYER. —

On a vote being taken the affirmative won by a majority of 9.

Entertainment. Last Thursday Mr Tudor Huglies, Gronant House, Prestatyn, entertained the children of the Council School with the phonograph. The selections were highly appreciated by the audience. The Clerk was instructed to write to the District Council to call their attention to the widening of the road at Four Crosses Corner. The Parish Council were sorry that they could not accede to the request of Mr Hughes, Tyn y Caeau, to repair the road Ffordd Goch, it being private property.

FATALITY AT POINT OF AYR COLLIERY
FATALITY AT POINT OF AYR COLLIERY At mid-day last Thursday a collier named William Evans, residing at Gronant, met with a fatal accident in the colliery. At the inquest held at Grollant on Friday the jury returned a verdict of accidental death." Deceased, who was working alone, was missed, and when a search was made, it was discovered there had been a large fall of coal from the roof, which must have killed the man instantaneously. On being found the body was taken up the pit and laid in the mortuary to await the arrival of Dr Evans, Ffynnongroew. At the funeral on Monday, an impressive scene was witnessed. The burial ceremony was conducted by Revs E. Jones (Gronant), R. Hopwood (Llauasa), and E. J. Parry (Ffynnongroew). A service was held at the Wesleyan Chapel, and afterwards the funeral cortege weuded its way towards Llanasa cemetery. The officiating ministers were followed by 12 representatives of the Colliers' Federation, next came representatives of the Druids Friendly Society, and after them the hearse. The Point of Ayr Colliery Company wore represented by Mr Williams (The Manager). The coffin, which was male by Mr Profit, Gronant, was covered with beautiful wreaths. Deceased was 50 years of age. He left a wife and family of three, who received much sympathy in their bereavement.
Trelogan.
Trelogan. Thirty Years' Faithful Service. At the close of the service last Sunday evening, to the surprise and regret of the members of the C.M. church, Mr 0. W. Ellis, the senior deacon, announced his intention of relinquishing his office as secretary of the church. Mr Ellis has been a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and sec- retary at this place of worship for about thirty years, and all three offices he has filled with faithfulness and diligence, being always present at church meetings week-day and Sunday. He did not confine himself to his own connexion, being ever ready to help fellow-Christians of all denominations. Ren- der honour to whom honour is due."—JEHU. -+-

PRESENTATION TO DR. E. LLOYD…
PRESENTATION TO DR. E. LLOYD OWEN. At "Gwynfa," last Saturday, the Free Church Council of the Llanasa Parish met to present nr E. Lloyd Owen with a magnificently illuminated address as a token of their appre- ciation of the doctor's services during the period he had resided in the Parish, prior to accepting the appointment as Medical Inspec- tor of Schools in Carnarvonshire. A sketch of the doctor's career was given in the "P.W." last week. There was a good representative meeting, the chair being occupied by Mr Arthur Hughes, secretary to the Ffynnongroew Council. Dr Oliver, Holywell, secretary to the North Wales F.C. Council, addressed the meeting. The learned reverend gentleman's speech pleased the meeting immensely. In it the speaker took a broad aspect of the true citizen's political and religious life, views which inspired the audience with new possi- bilities. Brief speeches followed from Revs. R. Hopwood and R. Morgan, after which Rev E. J. Parry read the presentation address, which ran as follows ANWYL DR. OWEN. Ydym, anwyl frawd, yr eiddouh yn gywir, dros y cynghor, O. W. Ellis, Arthur Hughes, Llywyddion; T. G. Jones, Trysorydd; LI.Arthur Owen.Ysgrifenydd. The chairman made the presentation in the following words On behalf of the Free Church Council of Llanasa Parish, I present you with this testimonial in recognition of your diligence, zeal, and devotion to the objects of the Council in their secular and religlious aims. The widow's mite and wealthy donations are embodied in this presentation, which I hand to you with the Council's best wishes, in the hope that it may encourage you on to greater work. And we wish you, Mrs Lloyd Owen, and your little daughter, much happiness in your new home. The doctor very suitably replied to the address, thanking the Council and subscribers heartily for their grateful observations of his services. He sincerely wished the Council a long period of success and felicity. This terminated a happy and memorable incident in the history of the Ffynnongroew Free Church Council. The Ffynnongroew Male Voice Choir and Miss Sallie Williams rendered music during the proceedings.
