CRICKET NOTES. Colwyn Bay v. Prestatyn. Played at Colwyn Bay on Saturday in pleasant weather. Prestatyn were unfortunate in having to take the field without R. Lloyd, G. T. Linnell. 1. Eames, J. Littler, and C. V. Roebuck, whilst Captain Hopwood played for Rhuddlan at Llanrwst, the locals having to find a substitute on the ground. Colwyn Bay batted first on a good wicket, but mainly owing to the fine bowling of .T. Coulthard were all dismissed for 54 a very fine performance by our locals. In addition to the good bowiiag of J. Ooaithard, the innings was marked by some magnificent fielding by W. Inglefield. Goodier batted well for Colwyn Bay. The Pivstatyn players made a plucky though unsuccessful attempt to get the necessary runs, Messrs. Tickle, Watts, Coulthard, (who hit a six), and W. Hughes, playing good cricket. Coulthaid 11 0 20 5 NOTES. Prestatyn players must be congratulated on their very plucky display when so badly handicapped. W. Inglefield saved quite 20 runs by his splendid fielding hard drives which would have found the boundary were picked up and thrown in in County style. He also made a splendid running catch. J. R. Tickle shewed a glimpse of his true form on Saturday before he was unluckily run out. Hammersley who came on to bowl at the fall of the fourth wicket proved the undoing of the local players, W. Hughes being the only one to play him with any confidence. It is unfortunate that the captain of the Prestatyn club should have been playing elsewhere when his own team needed him so badly. His assistance would have certainly meant a win on Saturday, as the substitute from Colwyn Bay was useless. For the County Trial match to be played at Flint next week Rhuddlan, Mostyn. Mold and Flint (3 each), and Shotton, Buckley, Hawarden, Northop, and Penbedw (2 each), are to send players to take part. Why not Prestatyn ? I have not the least doubt but what Prestatyn's best is superior to Rhuddlan or Mostyn's third best. My idea of a County Cricket Association was that it was meant to encourage young clubs by giving their players a trial of this sort, not giving all the spoils to the old established clubs. I was a spectator at the Flint v. Carnarvon match at Mostyn last season, and from what I saw, Prestatyn should have had two men in the team. According to the fixture list, Colwyn Bay was not included for a return match, but the game on Saturday was so enjoyed by the home players, and the visitors, that the Bay are to visit Prestatyn on September 2ist. The team for Saturday next will be chosen from the following players C. M. Hopwood. J. P. Linnell. W. Inglefield, G. T. Linnell, J. R. Tickle, Thos. Jones, W. Hughes, J. Hughes, L. W. Watts, T. Barnett, G. M. Wynne, B. Haworth. Rhyl Banks C.C. will be the visitors. Two local cricketers were seen at the Oval the other day bowling to Tom Hayward & Co. Who was the left-handed bowler of the two who so completely mystified" Our Tom"? It was certainly the "Littler man of the two. BOWLER.
