Prestatyn v. Abergele. "MoitE POINTS FOR THE BLUES." A year ago the Prestatyn team included several Abergele players. Whilst the Aber- gele Royal "Welsh was made up of six Pres- tatynites and five Galeites. Since then things have altered, and each town now boasts a team of its own. On Boxing Day the red and blacks visited Prestatyn and defeated the blues in the final for the Prestatyn (Aiston) Challenge Cup, so that special interest was taken in the above league game. Both sides were strongly represented and a well con- tested game and a good gate was anticipated. Punctually to time, in a drizzling rain and before a small crowd, the blues faced thdr opponents as follows :—goal. W. Glass; backs J. T. Williams and Jack Jones; halfs T. Brooks, Bell Jones, and D. G.Jones; forwards J. Parry, S. Jones, R. Hughes, G. Glass, aud L. Watts. Mr J. E. Jones, of Holywell, had charge of the players. Aborgele won the toss. The game opened very even, but gradually the homesters bore down, Abergele defending well. Watts and Glass got away on the left but over run the ball. Parry now tried his luck with a long shot which struck the upright and bounced into the net. Prestatyn continued to have the best of matters, and were unlucky not to further increase their score. During a hot attack on the visitors goal, the ball was handled, the referee at once awarding a penalty and Robin Hughes beat Jones. At half-time the score read :— Prestatyn .2 goals, Abergele. 0. The second half opened rather tamely, but later both sides bucked up and attacked in turn. Prestatyn got through and Glass scored, but was ruled offside. The homesters were unlucky not to scoro on several occa- sions, and it was not untill a few minutes from time that Glass scored with a fast low shot. Final result: Prestatyn S, Abergele nil. That Prestatyn were the best side there is no doubt, and Abergele mast consider them- selves lucky that only three goals were scored against them. As a result of Saturday's win, Prestatyn now go third in the league table. Prest ttyn's chance of league; honours is certainly growing brighter. Noxt Saturday the return game with Aber- gele will be played, and if they repeat Satur- day's win, the local team's chances will be second to none. That the selection committee and the club in general have been criticised fof leaving out E. Holbrook. It is hardly likely that Holbrook himself will grumble, for changes 4n must be made now and then. He certainly deserved a rest after his Llandudno display, but it is expected ho will soon be in the team &gaiu, as when in form he is better than some of Saturday's team. That four of the Abergele team have in the past done duty for the blues, namely. E. Mostyn, Moss Jones, Alf Davies, and T. C. Williams. That Mr John Evans has received a letter of thanks from the league secretary, for his services in the Llandudno match. l That the secretary should see that only players and officials are allow in the dressing room. That Mr A. Greenwood, the general chair- man of the club, was an interested spectator of Saturday's game. That the Prestatyn Thursdays beat the Rhyl Celts, on Thursday, by 8 goals to 2. There is material here for first class players, but the drawback is they cannot get off on I Saturdays. Jim Roberts (back), J." Beunett andW. Davies (forwards), H. Roberts (goal), and liorton (half) are very likely players.

To the Editor of the Prestatyn Weekly." Snt,—Referring to a letter in last week's Weekly, signed A Supporter," will you kindly allow me a small space to differ from those remarks ? Seeing that "A Supporter" writes of being in- timated with the inner workings of the club, I take it he is a member of the committee. He asks why was Holbrook made an example of ?" Holbrook having shown signs of stateness has been given a rest. Surely because a player is dropped for a week it does not make an example" of him. Regarding the Rhyl players A Supporter (if he be a member of committee—as I have pointed out he must be) should know that the matter has been thoroughly thrashed out by the committee, and it was decided that we had not enough players with- out going away for them. Thus the committes pick the best team from their signed men, and are in no way partial to Rhyl players. A Supporter states that the reason for the poor support of the club is the introduction of players from Rhyl. Let me point out that the best gates Prestatyn have had were v Flint U.A.C. and Mold last season, when only two local men were in the team. DR. DAVIES' SAD DEATH. Inquest and Verdict. Considerable commotion1 was caused in Prestatyn on Friday night on the report becoming current that Dr Davies had been found dead in his surgery under strange circumstances. An inquest was held at the Town Hall on Saturday afternoon, when the facts of the case were related. Tho proceedings were conducted by Mr F' Llewolyn Jones, County Coroner, and the following acted as jurymen Messrs. A. W. 3ones (foreman), Thos. Hughes, J. Littler, R. Richards, D. James, M. O'Connor, T. Fenton. D. Davies, W. P. MacJonald, Alfred Jones. J. W. Williams, T. H. Jones, and Cornelius Roberts. After the jury had viewed the body, the first witness called was Dr. H. H. Davies (Cerrig-y-druidion), who identified the body as that of his brother, Dr Robert Thomas Davies, 38, surgeon practising at Prestatyn. Witness had last seen deceased in August, but a week since his daughter received a letter from his brother stating he contem- plated a sea voyage. In reply to the coroner witness said his brother had been in Denbigh Asylum in July last, and after 6 or 8 weeks he was discharged as perfectly cured. Witness was not. aware that his brother was in any financial difficulties, and from what he was told he believed that deceased had not been cr ilkirig so heavily of late. He knew deceased was in the habit of taking I- pick- ill. -ups," which he prepared himself, but he had never heard of him threaten to take his life. Dr Batten Williams related that on account ot.a conversation which had taken place at the Railway Hotel on Thursday night, and which was repeated to him on Friday, he went in search of Dr Davies at about 7 p.m. Mrs Williams (Bradford House) had a key of deceased's surgery, and she opened the door for him. After searching the place, witness found deceased quite dead lying in the corner with a bottle in his hand. The police were sent for. and several neighbours also camo in. On examination it was found the bottle contained prussic acid of double strength, although it was labelled spirits of camphor. Deceased must then have been deiui about 12 hours. Witness did not think deceased had taken his life at all. The Coroner That is for the jury to decide. Witness resuming said deceased was subject to fits, and his theory was that he had a fit on Friday night. He probably went to the bottle, seeing that spirits of camphor were a restorative in such cases, but forgetting that the bottle contained prussic acid, took the poison in mistake. P.C. Cheney gave evidence to seeing deceased quite sober at 10-45 on Thursday night. In reply to a telephone message on Friday night, he went to deceased's surgery and found the body as described by Dr Williams. There was no money on the body, neither did he find any written statewent on "the premises. Thomas Jones (Jubilee Terrace), and Eaton Jones (Railway Hotel), gave evidence as to a conversation which took place between them ard deceased at the hotel on Thursday night. Deceased told them that he was tired cf life and that he would do away with it. He had a lot of trouble, and a deal of worry. Deceased was in the habit of making similar statements, and usually finished with a joke, so that neither witness paid very much at- tention to what he said. The Coroner summed up, and after re- tiring for a few minutes the jury returned a verdict of death by misadventure from a dose of prussic acid. The Coroner said the verc% was not strictiy in accordance with the evidence |but he was bound to accept it.
