MENTS AT BARRY DOCK. The following is a report of last week's shipping and shipments at Barry Dock Number. Tonnage. The total imports for the week ended Febrjary 24th amounted to 21,889 tons 0 cwt. corresponding week ended February 25th, 1893,29,229 tonsl5 cwt; decrease, 7,340 tons 15 owt. The total exports last week amounted to 102,038 tons 2 cwt. Corresponding week ended February 25th, 1893, 91,814 tons 0 cwt; increase, 10,224 tons 2 cwt. Total to February 24th, 1894, 744,144 tons 16 cwt.; corresponding week last year, 712,434 tons 1 cwt. increase, 31,710 tons 15 cwt. NEW WORKS FOR A LOCAL CONTRACTOR. Mr John Jackson, of Westminster, London, the contractor of the deep-lock works at Barry Dock, has secured the contract from the North British Railway Company to build the new dock at Methil, which will be constructed to afford the coalowners and shippers the further facilities which are so urgently needed, and the lack of which caused such a serious loss during the late strike, when the demand for Scotch eoal became abnormally large. The dock will cost about £200,000. LAST WEEK'S SHIPMENTS AT BARRY DOCK. The export and import shipments at Barry Dock for the:week ended Saturday last amounted to 104,463 tons 12 cwt., made up as follows:— EXPORTS. Tons. cwt. Coal 100,393 2 Coke 1,618 0 General merchandise 27 0 IMPORTS. Pitwood. 2,423 0 General merchandise 2 10 Total 104,462 12 NARROW ESCAPE OF TWO BOATMEN AT BARRY DOCK. The Greek steamer Maria, while entering the basin at Barry Dock on Monday morning last, suddenly dropped her anchor accidentally into a hobbler's boat. The bottom of the boat was smashed and immediately sank, and the two occu- pants, Richard Cook and Fogg, were rescued with much difficulty in an exhausted condition.
