NEWS IN BRIEF. | A block of buildings has been purchased at Rhvl for the purpose of forming a con- valescent home for L. & N.W. Railway men and women. The buildings are near the sea and will accommodate 20 patients. Men from sixteen collieries in Amman Valley, South Wales, are out on strike owing to the employers not having conceded an advance in wages which had been demanded. 5,000 colliers are aftected. A change in the diet for tramps in the Clitheroe Workhouse has caused a reduction of two-thirds in the number of casuals applying for a night's lodging. The new army aeroplane was brought out for trial last Saturday. It was found not to be balanced properly, and was taken back to its shed for alterations.
