"."NEWS IN BRIEF.1
NEWS IN BRIEF. Dean Gregory who has been credited with the grim remark that he does not intend "eithei to die or resign as long as this abominable Radical Government remains in power," has now been over forty years at St. Paul's, and even the most abominable Radicals (says the Westminister Gazette ") will hope that he may be spared to remain there for some time yet. The satisfactory condition ot the finances at St. Paul's at the present tune is due in no little degree to his sound judgment and careful administration. The Women's Anti-Suffrage League is one of the latest ideas. Forty-three branches have already been formed, and another fifty are to be started at once. After having been refused admission to the workhouse, Abraham Crompton Wright, a youth who is epileptic, stole a watch at Ulver- ston, and on Monday was before the magis- trates, who sent him to gaol foi three months. 0 It was stated that the porter who refused him admission to the workhouse had been dealt with by the guardians. Two boys, aged 17 and 15, were brought before the Birmingham Magistrates on Monday charged with housebreaking. It was stated that the prisoners, along with two' other boys, had been living in a cave, and when the police entered the place a fowl was being cooked in a watering can. The accused were both carrying guns, and there was am- munition in the cave. One lad was commit- ted to the sessions, and the other sent to a reformatory. At the opening of a new Council School at Llanfairfechan this week, Professor J. Morris Jones said that the future belonged to the Council Schools of the land, but all were willing to recognise gratefully the sacrifices which the church had made for education in the past. But the State had now acknow- ledged its duty, and bore the whole cost of education. Miss Nellie Dobell, a maiden lady, of T Barnton, Northwich, who died rather suddenly, had had a collie dog as companion for over ten years. Since her death the dog 0 has wandered about the roads whining pitifully. It is in great distress and will not be comforted.
