Pontypridd Interviews. SEVEN YEARS AGO AND TO-DAY. The ooiii-iii- brief account of an inter- view with a Pontypridd man .seven years ago, and its sequel, will be read with keen interest by every citizen. On January 8th, 19()(j. Mr. R. Jones, of 8. East Street. Trallwn, Pontypridd, said: —" I was troubled with severe pains in the small of my back, and around my loins for several years. I could hardly keep upright, and sometimes I was un- able to turn in bed without, great effort and pain. The urinary system also showed signs of kidney disorder. One day I happened to read about Doan's Backache Kidney Pills, and the good they were doing in this neighbour- hood. so I got .a box. From the first I was pleased to get good from them. I continued using the pills, and by the time I had taken three boxes of the pills I was free of the backache and the kidney system was in order. I cannot speak too higbh- of Donn's piUs. (Signed) R. Jones." On March 7th. 1M3—or?- ?)Tn. //?/? lafrr—Mr. Jones said:—" I was seventy years of age last July, and I am keeping very free of kidney trouble. to- .1.. The Omnibus. I Something for Everybody. I The clerks employed by the Taff Yale Railway Company in the Rhondda on Saturday presented A. •. James Walter Hutk'r. of Ton-Pentre r,j tll a purse el' gold as a mark of the esteem, the occa- sion being his departure lor Australia. Mr. Butler has been iu the employ of the company for about nine years, and has been actively associated with the Ton- Pentre Association Football Onih. of which he has aeted for several years a> a comhitteeman. The employees of the Ton-Peiitre Co- operat i Vt. Society threaten to strike owing to thp dismissal of a butcher employed by tho society. Thp man in qupstioll has just. worked out the notice tendered to him by the committee, and his case has been taken up by the men's Unirn. Two of them were deputed to meet the com- mittee and demand his 1 e-instateinent, hut thi> was refused, the committee stating tllnt tlw notice was given on account of a projected re-arrangement of the staff. A deadlock lias now arisen, and the men. as stated, threaten to cease work About 70 persons are involved in the society's three establishments. Governor Sulzer, r, of New York, who seems to be the storm-centre of a politico- civic campaign at present raging there, is the hero for otherwise) of a quaint elec- tion story a correspondent has brought with liini from the oilier side. A poli- tical nwding in the last- campaign in New York was seriously disturbed by a man who, kept yelling for Sulzer. We want Sulzer. we want Sulzer," he bellowed, much to the annoyance of every body. The chairman pointed an admonitory finger at the interrupter, and asked him to gag himself for a moment but he refused to hush and finally they threw him out. The man went IOUTHI the building and untered by another door. By this time Sulzer had begun "a speech. But the man who had been ejected only yelped with greater vehemence than ever. Let Sulzer speak. We want Sulzer Snlitilering his annoyance, the chairman arose. My friend. ¡":lid lie, waving one hand at the interrupter and the other at Governor Sulzer as e sign to pause, it you were really a, f end of Mr. Seizor you would know that i, he who is speak- ing now." Aw. that ain't Sulzer." re- pHed the unabashed supporter in a sten- torian voice. That's the fella that paid me to yell for Sulzer." For the last two summers that most dangerous of domestic pests—tlie houso- "v ,ii s been curiously and happily absent. It cannot be because we have killed that individual fly, since it is one of the most fecund of beasts, and with the minimum ot encouragement a single fly will pro- duce a maximum of discomfort within a short season of activity. We have won the fight, it may be* supposed by turning the hose of discomfort upon the fly. who hates water and all kinds of cleanliness. Not many years ago the grocer's shop, the butcher's slab, the waste heap in the mews were the breeding grounds and the pastures of the carrier of filth. But with the disappearance of the horse the mews have spelt starvation for the fly, and the growing cleanliness of the butcher, the ba ker, and the grocer have banished the undesirable alien. The Derbyshire miners love "Old Barnet," as Mr. Kenyon, the new M.P.. is designated. He is something of tho same kind as Mabon. Both have an affec- tionate cognomen, and both hold very similar views. His return is an agree- able surprise to Liberals, some of whom feared that the questions of nomenclature and etiquette which had arisen over Old Barnet's candidature might lose him a considerable number of votes. It did not, however, as he had only 42 votes less than Mr. Haslam, in spite of the Socialist candidature. The miners," however, swept aside these relatively unimportant ques- tions. and rallied to their own leader and the support of a Liberal and Progressive policy. Of late Mr. Kenyon's work for the miners has been devoted mainly to dealing with claims under the Workmen's Com- pensation Act, and in this capacity he has come into close toach with a large pro- portion of tho members of the association. He is very popular with the miners all over the Derbyshire coalfields, irrespective of their political views. He is a member of the executive of the Miners' Federa- tion of Great Britain, and also of the Midland Counties Board set up under the Minimum Wage Act. He was prominently associated with the agitatio-n that led to the national strike of last year in the coalfields, hut was on the side of peace. Do not rock the ha by is the last word on infant bringing up. Tho old song. Myfi sy'n magu'r baban. myfi sydd yn siglo'r ct-vd," must be set aside, as in a leaflet issued by the Public Health Department of the Corporation of London, ]I(-,V(" to rock the bahy. "Why not? a Central News repre- sentative asked a medical man. The reply was that lulling children to sleep in this way was responsible for many digestive disorders.
