The hearing took place on the 8th of February )a?t, after ^uo BummOU8 fnveu to £ Griffiths, who not only failed to appear, but eent co npianation of his absence. The wife of the complainant, ?dtiam Daviea, udie if t h..b"d's behalf, and depoeed on oath as to the arrears of rent due; the value of the gooda r,. 0'; d that they were removed without her or her husband a consent or knowlodge. She did not admit in any way whatever that she knew that Grithths was going to remove his fuln.ture. or that she had arranged for her busbald to receive the arrears of rent from uritnths by weekly mfctalments of 5a., or by any instalments. It mity be true that the goods were removed by taylight, but that does not relieve it from having been a clandestine and fraudulent removal to prevent a distress for rent. It should be borne in nund that the fandtord Davica iiyce at Q?Uiffaer. in (?tBorgacf.htre, a few miles away, ana h?d noknowltoge oi what the defendant was doing, and it was deemed enough that the goods were moved without Davieu s consent or coguizanco. Auannlw cation was therefore made by him to the m.igia. trates 10 put in operation tho Act under which Cirimths was subsequently imprisoned. Orders l,f this kind aro by no means of rare occurrence, but imprisonment is generally avoided by the defendants taking care to lay the amount due, or to make some arrange. ment with the landlord, and thus escapa the penalty in a manner anolagous to what fre- quently takes place upon a judgment nnder a ccmnntmoEt summons in the county court. Thero is no truth in tho allegation in Griffiths'^ mcmorial, that one of the magistrates dissented from tho judgment come to at the bearing. l?. magistrates .Iy tt,.d?d that day, and they were unanimous in their view of the OMe. BRECON MARKETS BILL. I
BRECON MARKETS BILL. I This Bill was before a committee of tho Houbo of CommoDe on Thursday, Mr. Stai.sfeld in the chair. Mr. G. It waa V'ropot ed that a gentleman to to nominated by the Lccsi Government Board should go down t? lirtccn and inspect the buildings of the market ccnipaiiy erocted for use as slaughter-houses.
