THE REPRESENTATION OF ANGLESEY. I SIR,—I L«»rn this motninc from the columns of one of yonr daily contemporaries that at a meeting ot the iradinu Liberal Unionists and Conservatives of Anglesey held yesterday at Llangefni, it was resolved to forward a petition to the Lord- lieutenant requesting him to contest the representa- tion of the county. Will you allow me tLe opportunity for suggesting that such a requisition ought to go from Uberal Unionists alone. The Lord-lieutenant has for many years con- sistently held well-known political views with which the Conservative Party differ in too and it would be doing an injustice to Mr Davies, who, throoghout his career, has earned the respect as well of his political opponents as of his friends, to assume that, because his views on the Irish question differ from those of Mr Gladstone, he has necessarily changed his views upon every other party question. Indeed, if he has done so he has ceased to be a Liberal Unionist" at all. Under these circumstance, I feel sure that many Anglesev Conservatives who have like myself voted against Mr Daviet in times past, but who woald now be prepared to support ard vote for him if brought forward by the Liberal Unionists, in a single-handed contest against the sitting member with the (jues ion of the Union as the only point in difference, would yet most strongly dcprtoute his being invit'd by the Conservative Party to become their representative. I read Lord Aberdare'e speech in a Liberal Club in South Wales as carefully as I could, and never did 1 lay down a newspaper with greater pain and disgust. The opening sentences seemed so full of pore sfntimeuts, and breathed such noble and brava thought, that I read on with a heart full of expectant hope and joy of finding in his lordship as noble a defender of the Church of bis fathers as the Earl of Selborne. "Here." Raid I. "is a TIncA worthy of his lineage, worthy of his thrice noble ancistor the hero of Baunockburn." Barely. this Lorcl of Aberdare is worthy to be 11 so closelv connected bv family and other ties with the Church in Wales." We should feel protld of such a near kinsman of a Welsh Bishop and a Welsh Vicar. This man's political creed can never sway or influence, much lees destroy, his allegiance to the anc:eot British Church. Alag he turns out to be a veritable Pontius Pilate. That flannel of a Roman knew that the prisoner at his bar was innocent of the charges brought againt Him, he knew tha» envv and spiteful hatred alouo had bronght the Holv One to his judgmeot seat; he found no fault iu Him. he found nothing in Him worthy of death or of bonds yet, for fear of the Jews, for his own selfish ends, and to court popularity, he outraged his own conscience, he turned a deaf ear to family warnings. He with shameful ii>)Heqniousnessand infamous pusillanimity threw in his lot with the murderers of the Holy One and the Just! In many respects we have a parallel in this modern Pilatns. For 40 years he has befriended, defended, and loved the Church in Wales. He has ofteii declared in the assembly of princes that this Church was doing a great and noble work he knows that it is for envy alone the enemy has brought this Church before the bar of CtBsar. crving down with, down with her to the ground he knows that she is arraigned on utterly false issues that if so-called public opinion has pronounced judgment adverse to her claims, no one knows better than Lord Aberdare how spurious that" public opinion" is; that it is not the hom fide public opinion of his countrymen, but a mere figment, a base, spurious article, manufactured to order, and to serve party purposes; yet this Welsh nobleman ontrages his conscience, belies his own public and private life; tears away, we presume, from all family ties, with shameful obsequiousness and miserable pusillanimity throws in his lot with the enemy of the Church, and in feeling accents gays It is the Church of my fathers, the Church of my baptism, I have worshipped in it all my days. THE LIVERPOOL EXHIBITION BUILDING. It has been decided to hand over this tie struc- ture for "Ie to Meawa. MoNDiv.'—The enpplementary returns as to the state of a-rarian crime and boycotting in Ireland, which were laid on the table of the Lower House last week,were ordered to be laid before their lordships. Suggestions were made by Lord Herachell and Earl Spencer for returns referring to the number of cases tried under the Crimes Act, and ot the dumber of farms from which the tenants had been evicted aud which the landlords were unable to let; but Earl Cadogan said be must couBiilt the Chiel Seiiretary before promising them. TCKSDAY The Lord Chancellor, replyinR to Lord Ellenborough.s&id tte SMieitor to the Treasury now had charge of public prosecutions. No public prosecutor could overrule the decisions of a judge, aud the Government had no present intention of appointing an officer with such powers. The Rail- way Rates Bill was read a first time. HOUSE OF COMMONS. FRIDLY. Mr Ritchie informed the House that the couutv boundaries inquiry was of a complicated character, and that he could not anticipate an early report. The debate on the Address was resumed by Mr Mandella.-Mr Balfour, criticising the speech of Mr Gladstone on Thursday, said his remarks in reference to boycotting showed a strange oblivious- ness of the condition of Ireland. Referring to the request for statistics, the Chief Secretary said he proposed to lay on the table tatistic,3 of exactly the same character as those submitted by Earl Spencer in 1183 The Government, he said, had done something to restore order and vindicate the law in Ireland,to diminish the tyranny ana oppres- sion of the National League, and to restore con- fidence in the law, without which no eonntry-not even Ireland under Home Rule-could enjoy the advantages of civilisation. Mr Balfour quoted statistics showing that the Crimes Bill diminished the. number of agrariau offences. In the six months before the Act they were 495; in the six months after the Act they were 364-ft diminution of 26 per cent. Exclusive of threatening letters, the agrarian offences were in the first period 323 and in the second period 248--a diminution of 23 per cent When the Act passed into law the number of persons who were being wholly boycotted was 870; now it was 208. When the Act passed, the number of persons being partially boycotted was 3965 now the number was 1867.—Mr John Morley Raid the contention of the Opposition was that the oanse of the diminution of agrarian crime was the entirely ohanged state of feeling resulting from the fact that Liberal members of Parliament and others from England had gone to Ireland to judge for themselves. If the Government had not, as the leader of the House admitted, succeeded in inducing Irish sympathy for the law, they admitted the whole case of the Opposition. The Government had practically wasted last Bession in forging that comparatively useless measure the Crimes Act, which was administered in a manner likely to pre- vent the Irish people from extending to the law the respect and obedience with which it was accustomed to be observed in this country.—The debate was adjourned at half-past ten o'clock, on the motion of Mr Parnell. Leave was then given for the intro- duction of upwards of one hundred new bills,which were subseqvently read a first time. The House adjourned at half-past eleven o'clock. MONDAY—Lord C. Beresford, being unable to obtain from the First Lord of the Admiralty the report of the oommittee of the Board of Admiralty on the subject of the proposed naval intelligence deoartment, pave notice that he would ask for a committee <o inquire into the administration of the War-office and the Admiralty.—Mr- W. H. Smith said when Mr Marriott [(Judge-Ad voc ate- General) went to Egypt as the agent of the ex-Khedive he did not apply for authorisation from the Govern- meut, or from anv person on behalf of the Govern- ment. It was perfectly well known that he went in his professional and not in his official capacity, and that he bad acted professionally for the ex. Khedive for a long time prior to his entrance into the Government.—Mr Stanhope, replying to a question respecting the disbanding of a submarine nvninfe company in connection with the 1st Lan- cashire Engineer Volunteers, said thac it was in the opinion of the Duke of Cam- bridge important for the unity of the defence of the Mersey that all the submarine miners of the locality should belong to the Mersey division of the Royal Engineers. The colonel of the volunteer battalion declined to allow his sub- marine milling company to be transferred to that corps, and in the interest of military efficiency the only oourse remaining was to disband and to recon- stitute it. It was expected that all or nearly all the members of the disbanded company would take service in the new corps.—Mr W. IT. Smith, in reply to Mr Bradlaagh, declined to agree to the appointment of a select committee to inquire into the charges preferred by the hon. member against the Premier.—Mr Goschen, replying to a question respecting friendly society legislation, satd he understood that a private bill was to be introduced, ombodving the proposals of the frijndly societies for their own reform and, if the measure was con- fined to the collecting societies, the Government would agree to its second reading, on condition that the bill be referred to a select committee.—Mr Picton called attention to the arrest of Mr P. O'Brien in mistake for Mr Gilhooly, and moved that sach arrest was an infringement of the privileges of Parliament. He submitted that the mistake was one that would not have been made, had the officer armed himself with a warrant. The Home Secretary agreed that the mistake was one which ought not to have been made, and in the name of the police force and on behalf of the Government be offererd Mr P. O'Brien his most sincere a.pologies.Sir W. Harcourt thought the matter ought to be inquired into by the Committee of Privileges.—The Attorney-General failed to see what question of privilege was raised, and moved as an amendment that the House regretted that an indignity had been offered to Mr P. O'Brien; but considering that it had been caused by the mistake of a police officer, did not think it necessary to pro. cesd further with the matter.-Sir U. Russnll urged that the ordinary course of the House should not be departed from, 'but that the matter should he referred to the committee, that they might secure an accurate statement of the circumstances of the arrest-Sir H. James held there had been uo breach of privilege.-Mr P. O'Brien, having placed the house in pos- session of his version of the story of his arrest, Mr Gladstone said, seeing how seriously the facts were in conflict, he hoped the Home Seoretary would feel there was reasonable ground for a motion for breach of privilege.-The Solicitor-General denied that there was aoy privilege of members of the House in criminal cases.-Mr Parnell protested against the attitude of the Government, and hoped they would refer the matter to a committee.-After some further discussion, Mr Picton's motion was negatived without a division. Mr J. Morley then moved that the circumstances attending the arrest of Mr O'Brien should be referred to the Committee o! Privileges to consider whether any or what action should be taken,and what measures should be takpp to prevent such oocurreooes in the future.—This was negatived by 246 to 151 votes, and the motion bv the Attorney-Genera! was then aareed to.—Mr Plvnn resumed the debate on the Address in answer to the Queen's Speeoh, drawing attention to the administration of the Crimes Act, and was followed by Mr John O'Connor and a number of other Irish members.—Sir|B. W. Foster having given his views on Irish affairs, Mr Parnell said Iri,h members, he believed would be prepared to go farther than the Government in proposals to advance legislation, as such a oourse would assist the House in passing a hill for the better government of Ireland, which would be introduced in the near future. After again giving the House his views of Lord Carnar- von's opinions on Home Rule, the hon. member criticised the administration of the Crimes Act, and moved his amendment to the effect that the ameliorative Irish legislation of last session had tended to diminish crime, while the coercive legis- lation had alienated sympathy and respect for tha law, and its administration bad been harsh, partial, and mischievons.-The Solicitor General for Ire. ?nd replied to Mr Parnell s speech and the debate was adjurned on ?he Motion of Sir G. Trevelyan. TCKSDAY.—Sir George Trevelyan resumed the debate on the Address, declaring there was nothing be bad said outside the House which he was not prepared to repeat in it. He asserted that the Crimes Act did create new crimes, and on the sub- ject of rents said even at this late hour there was time to bring in a bill to deal with the arrears of unjust rents. The proper way to settle Irish differ- ences was by adopting a policy of pacification and conciliation, instead of coercion.-Colonel Saunder- son twitted Sir George with not having given any reasons for changing his opinions with regard to the National League, showing what his former opinions were by quoting from the ex-Chief Secretary's speeches. The hon. and gallant mem- ber said if the bouse acceded to Mr Parnell's amendment it would be deliberately passing a vote of want of confidence in itself. Mr Parnell had not proved any of the propositions contained in his amendment, and Home Rule had now been abso- lutely put ou one side. Colonel Saundernon pro. oeeded to once more expose the aims and tactics of the National League, in the course of which he roused the indignation of Mr E. WEDXEBDtY. -A new writ was ordered to be issued for Bristol West, Rir M. Hieks-Beach having hccepted the office of Presidentof the Board of Trade.—Mr John Ellis resumed the debate on the Address, denying the claims of the Government to the oredit for the reduction in agrarian crime.— Col. King Harman maintained that the events of the past few months had proved, and those of the next few months would prove, that the National League was not so strong as it had been, and that it had less power to do evil than formally. Owing to the administration of the Crimes Act the payments to the branches "f the league were f illing off, and none were fighting for the existence of those branches but those who were making there living out of them. He affirmed the truth of the statement that crime dogged the foot- steps of the league,aud said it was impossible, under presentconditions.to grant Ireland local self-govern- ment. He believed that God would bless the efforts of the Government, and that we should see Ireland free from crime, happy, prosperous, and contented. —Mr Herbert Gladstone asserted that erirne began to diminish in Ireland when the Land Act of 1881 began to work, The debate had brought into prominence three facts—that the Government had made no serioas attempt to pnt down the National I Lea«ne; that they had failed to suppress a certain number of branches; and that the plan of compaign had run its course almost vifchoutinterruption. The National League, or the spirit of the National League, could no more be put down than could the spirit cf nationality iu the Irish people. They had heard a great deal about agrarian murders and outrages, but some of the landlords had been criminals in every sense of the word. Taking a broad view of the situation in Ireland, he said there was every encouragement) for the Home Rulers.- Sir W. Barttelot continued the debate, which was adjourned on the motion of Mr W. O'Brien.

PRODIGY. An extraordinary musical genius has made his debut in the orchestra of the Liverpool instrumental concerts, in a hoy apparently not more than six years of age, of the name of Minase, who exeeutes the most difficult passages of every complicated variations on the flute in a style and with a pre- cision that astonishes the professors, and obtains him the enthusiastic applause of the amateurs, REJOICINGS. The rejoicings at Bala and its neighbourhood, which took place on Friday, the$fh inst., in cele- bration of the birth of a son and heir to the worthy Baronet of Wynnstav. an event as well anspicious to his happiness as to the prosperity of the Princi- pality, were most conspicuous. The gentry and principal inhabitants of the town and neighbour- hood, having met with so much unanimity upon this highly interesting orcasion,repairpd to the Bull Inn, where upwards of 200 of the friends and well- wishers to the ancient house of Wvnnstav sat down to an excellent dinner at which Richard W. Price. of Rhiwlas, and David Anwyl, of Bala, Esquires, presided. Dinner being over, the health of the hero of the day was drank in all the warmth of Cam- brian enthosiasm. Sir Watkin's health and Lady Harriet's was drank with that glee which mani- fssted the respect of the assembly. Many loyal and patriotic toasts followed, which kept the com- pany in pleassnt association to a late hlIr. A magnificent bon-fire was lighted on Bala Green- sheep roasted, and seven barrels of good ale distri- buted to the populace in the town and on the green. PCHOOL FOR RADICALISM AND INFIDELITY. A more awful relation of the influence of, these principles in the manufacturing districts in the North of England cannot be adduced than what is contained in the following extract from the report just printed of the St James's Sunday Schools in Rristol.—There now prevails a considerable effort to instruct the rising generation in the tenets of Radicalism. Among other schools condncted by the disaffected there is one in this town (Manchester) of 1000 scholars with thirty teachers, and there are two others in this neigh bourhood of severa1 hundred scholars. Christian- itv is banished from these schools, and hymns addressed to reason are substituted for the songs of Zion. In these schools the children are tanghtto write from such copies ai the following God save Hunt, Hunt and Liberty, Liberty or Death. Annual Par- liaments, TTniversal Suffrage, Bless the Oppressors, and Manchester Butchers! A very short time ago a girl belonging to another school, on being ordered to write on her copy Honour the King," absolutely refafied, and persisted in it. As no person who is present dares to plead the cause of Christianity it is easy to imagine how such questions are dispostd of. A LADY BADLY BURNT AT A BALL. On Friday nieht. at « ball given by Mr Mollov 26, Lower Leeson-street, Dublin, the dress worn bv the wife of a well-known young barrister, Mr John Godley, caught fire, The lady was quickly enve- loped in flames, bnt her husbard and another gentleman rapidly tore down a heavy window cur- tain, and enveloped her in this, happily extingnish. ing the flames. Mrs. Godley, however, was badly burnt about the neck and arms, and narrowly escaped a fearful death. She is progressing favourably.

THR BISHOP OF LLANDAFF AND LORD ARERGAVENNY. THE BIRHOP THRKATBNS TO RESIGN. The Bishop of Llandaff, in a speech published on Tuesday, refers to the legal proceedings recently taken u<"unst him by Lord Abergavenny to compel him tn institute the Rev R. W. Gosse into the liv- ing of Goytre. The Bishop say. that if the decision of Baron nuddleston goes against him he will appeal from one tribunal to another until he upsets the decision. He is determined that he will not institnte Mr Gosse,as the latter does not understand Welsh, and should he (the bishop) be beaten in the final court be will resign his bishopric.

I The following circumstances, drawn from the I personal experience of Mr Isaac Whick, of the -6 Borough Arms," Dudley Street, Wednesbury, are so important and reaHy remarkaole that the  cannot help but be of interest and value to a?i readers To the Editor. SIB,—My motives for the publication of the most unusual statements which follow are, first, grati- tude that I have been saved from a most horrible death; and secondly, a desire to warn all who read this staten-ent against some of the most deceptive it fluences by whioh they have over been surrounded. It is a fact that to-day thousauds of people are within a foot of the grave, aud they do uot know it. To tell how I was caught away from just this posi- tion, and to waru others agaiuat uearing it, are my objects in this communication. During 1882 I felt pains in the small of my back, gradually growing in intensity until I was forced to call in my medical adviser. He diagnosed my oase and confirmed my own ideas bv stating that I was suffering from disease of the kidneys He gave me many of the usual remedies, put mo on a strict diet, and for nearly three years 1 was under his treat- ment, but constantly grew worse. I was forced to pass water every few minutes during the day and night, and always with the greatest paiu and burn- ing sensation. If allowed to stand for a short time, a heavy wide sediment would form in the bottom of the vessel. Several times my nrine was analysed by the most competent men. I was fre- quently confined to my bed for several weeks at a time, could not attend to my business, and had wasted away in flesh until I was a mere shadow of my former self. My appetite left me, and I began to consider my case a hopeless one, as my friends showed by their actions that they d;d. In the early summer of 1885, after five years of suffering and wasting away, an old physician to our family from a neighbouring city was, at my request, called in consultation with my regular medical attendant. A difference of opinion arose between them as to whether my complaint was kidney trouble or stone in the bladder, and a surgical examination was decided upon, but could not then be made, owing to my reduced condition and the inflamed state of my bladder. In the meantime, though confined to my bed, it was decided to con- sult the most enjiuent medical man of Birmingham as Boon as my condition would allow, in company with my medical men, all of whom reported large quantities of albumen as passing from me, and all agreed that I was in a dangerous condition, I went to Birmingham, suffering greatly from the effects of the journey, and after a full examination and consultation, was told by the physician no medicine wonld cure me. When I asked what was the matter with me, he stated that the acids passing through my bladder from the kidneys had entirely eaten away the inner lining of the bladder, and that this was true had been before proved by the analysis of my urine, in which particles of this lining had been found, I then asked regarding my chances of recovery, out he said to me that my own medical man would tell me when we got home; but this the latter refused to do, always putting me off with one excuse or another whenever I wonld ask him what Sir had said about me. In Sep- tember, 1885, I read a book left at my house in which the symptoms of my disease were clearly put, and also some letters from people suffering as I was and statements from tbem that Warner's SAFE Cure bad effected cures in their cases. I argued that all these people certainly could not lie, and that, as I could get no benefit from my medical men, I would try Warner's SAFE Cure. I bought one bottle, and after taking it, experienced some benefit, my appe- tite improved, and I was jast a little better. I bought more, and with each bottle I could see and feel an improvement, until, in January, 1887, I was so much improved that all my friends were amazed and were congratulating me on my recovery. During part of this time my regular attendant gave me medicine, which I put untasted in the cupboard and continued caking only the Warner's SAFE Cure, and constantly improving under its use. It was now that my medical man told me that in the August previous Sir of Birmingham, had said I could not lie three months, aud at most not until Christmas (1885), In all I have taken only twelve bottles of Warner's SAFE Cure, the last some months ago, and during the time I took no other medicine of any kind, and to-day I am a perfectly well man, and weigh seven pounds more than I ever did in my life, my weight now being thirteen stone and eleven pounds; my appetite is as good as it ever was, and I have no sign or symptoms of any disease or disorder of any nature, and I consider that I owe my health, if not, indeed, my life, to Warner's SAFE Cure. SERIOUS ACCIDENT TO MR JOHN PARRY, OF LLANARMON. A very serious accident happened on Friday even- ing near the village of Llauasa, whiah resulted in injuries being sustained by Mr Peter Jones, of Gadlya farm, and Mr John Parry, of Llanarmon, so well known as one of the prime movers in the Welsh tithe agitation. Mr Parry, who bad during the week been delivering a series of addresses in the district, was staying with his brother-in-law at Gad- lys, and ou Friday returned from Holyhead, where he had joined in the Welsh demonstration to ex- Lord Mayor Sullivan In driving towards home the horse took fright on the hill between Llinegar and Glanrafon, and bolted at a terrific pace. The vehicle was overturned, Mr Jones sustaining a fracture of one leg and the hip of the other was dislocated; he was also severely cut about the face and head, and some of his ribs were broken. Mr Parry had one of his arms fractured, and he was also severely bruised on the face and about the body. Fortunate- ly Mr Brooks, of Bryn Mawr, happened to be near at hand, aud the inffereri were oonysyed home, where they were attended to by Dr. Jones.

THE SNEEZING SPOT. It is a remarkable faot that about six persons out of teD sneeze when having their hair combed. A fashionable hair-dresser wag asked about it. "I have oftened noticed it," he said. RETURNS of THE AQRICDLTCFAL DEPARTMENT.—^T^he returns of the Agricultural Department of the English Privy Council were not published till the 6th of February, but will bear,for fulnesa of informa. tion, a favourable comparison with the publications of the more elaborated organised foreign bureaux. They prove to be iu close accord with the best private estimates previously published and they put the yield of wheat in Great Britain last year at 74,322,747 bushels compared with 61,467,898 bushels in 1886. The yield per acre was thirty-two bushels, against not quite twenty-seven bushels in 1886. Among the counties of England there are none which exhibit lesa than the ordinary average production of wheat; but in Wales and Scotland there was an absence of unanimity in the reports, favourable as the largest proportion of them were to a high estimate. Barley is reckoned by the Privy Council as having been a deficient yield, an opinion which few markets have endorsed. But the repori does justice to the high average quality of this sea- son's barley, and to the consequent fair to good prices obtained. Oats, as all authorities are agreed, were a poor crop in 1887, and the Government put the total British yield at 107,283,392 bushels,against 116,596,481 bushels in 1886, itself by no means a favourable year. The breadth covered by oats in 1887 was larger than has been returned in any year since the agricultural returns have been collected, and farmers generally must consequently have sustained serious losses on this crop. Beans and peas, as well as oats, were deficient crops.

Steps are in progress, it is stated, for improving the facilities for the acquirement of legal education at the Universities, which are at present defective. Twelve yoar3' penal servitude was the sentence passed at Leicester Assizes on Friday on a herbalist named John Warren, who had performed an un- lawful operation on Msry Wesley, wife of a local confectioner. The remain of the late Sir Henry Maine have been interred at Cannes. Part of the burial service was also read at the college chapel, Triuity-hall, Cambridge. At Langen the railway station, together with a mail train, was buried in snow. The death is announced of Mr J. H. Walsh, (" Stonehenge "), editor of the Field, which occurred on Sunday evening. Two young fishermen, proceeding to Wicklow Bay from Bray, were drowned on Tuesday morning off Bray by the upsetting of their boat. ARREST OF HUSH MEMBERS. Mr Pyne, M.P., who has eluded the Irish police for several months by confining himself to Lisfinny Castle, was apprehended on Friday afternoon at the Clock Tower, Westminster. He alighted from a cab, aud had set foot upon the steps, when he was forced back by four constables and arrested on the footpath, after a struggle. He was taken to Euston Station ia the evening, tn route for Kilmac- thomas, via Dublin. Mr Gilhooly, M. P., was arrested the same even- ing on leavinp the House of Commons. He was accompanied b) a number of Irish members, and some excitement was occasioned by the arrest. A considerable crowd, cheering for the prisoner and indulging in cries against the Government, accom- panied the hon. geutlem:m to tie police-offices in Whitehftll-palaoe. A member of the Irish Constabulary on Friday arrested Mr P. O'Brien.M.P., nnderthe supposition that he was taking Mr Silhooly. When the mistake was discovered apologies were tendered, but Mr O'Brien said he must consult his legal advisers be- fore he could say that apologies were sufficient for the affront that had been put npon him,

The result of the application of St Jacobs Oil was a complete cure within a few days. A casual acquaintance. in the infirmary informed him of the rem-dy called St. Jacobs Oil, which he applied, and to his a8t"nishment he found it to effect a thorough cure. This case has also been personally verified by the writer of this article, who has not the least interest in the promotion of St. Jacobs Oil. The Special Committet; ot) the teaching of Welsh reported that it hail cOllsi.lere,1 the question of the raising of funds for providing a Welsh lecturer, and they found that it would be necessary to raibe £7500 for a permanent endowment at 1250 a year. They recommended that an effort be made to raise that amount, and also a guarantee fund of £100 a year for five years, in order to enable the Council to appoint a lecturer at once. aIr G. W. Taylor (late of Melbourne) had expressed his inten- tion of providing £500 for the endowment fund, and Mr William Evans, a member of the com- mittee, had been in communication with Mr Wil- liam Williams, Llewesog Hall, near Bangor, who had handsomely malle an unprompted offer of E200 for the same purpose, an,l to subscribe £10 a year until the dona'ion was paid. Members of the com- mittee had become responsible for £31 a year of the guarantee fund, in addition to Mr W. Williams' J10 a year, and they hoped the fund might be raised by special subscriptions. The committee wished to remind the Council that the Welsh language was already recognised lIy the college in the examinations for entrance scholarships, and it was gratifying to find that the number ot candi- dates taking Welsh at those examinations was on the increase.—The report was unanimously adopted. The report of the General Purposes Committee oil the utilisation of the west wing of the college for the purpose .of securing alditional library, museum, and classroom accommodation, and the reorallisatlOn of the college service, was, after considerable discussion, carried item, con., and the General Purposes Committee was instructed to carry out the alterations, and also co consider the question of the heating ot the whole building.
