1ST. THOMAS GRIEVANCE
1ST. THOMAS GRIEVANCE Correspondent's Plea for a Post Office. To the Editor, Sir.-For many yearf, the inbabitantg- snd especially the butMiieus people—of fit. Thâma., have been hoping for a fuJlv equipped and up-to-dato Post Office in the dist/ict. Wo are no better off to-day than we were SO or 35 years ago, amd the same room has to servo a large and ever ffrowiiifj population, and to eiy that it is inadequate is piHtinjr the case very mildly. In addition to this small room lin.Ting to serve the wlioie portai business, it is aiM a gbop and a stationer's E,!L)P, Other districts, such as Sketty and Mor- riston, have proper sub-offices, where all postal business can be transacted, even to j the delivery of teiesr'ms, and I thJhk Ifc ii i-igh time that St. Thoraa.*—which hae a much li-.rger population—should be put on tVic same footing. In addition to the inhabitaaits, a very large number of foreign seamen come hero. Their first business on landing it-, naturally, to look for the P.t Office, and it is pitiful to witner s their efforts to find it. You try to explain, sometimes in dumb-motion, that it is a jeweller's shop or a stationer's ahop, but that only adds to their confusion. This confusion is aggravated on Thursdays when tlie siiop is closed, and you tell them they must go to town for a stamp. W earo sure the Postmaster only needs his attention drawn to this matter to realise the disadvantageous position we are In. and, if he would use his influence to give us the same facilities that other dis- tress enjoy, he would be conferring a boon on the inhabitants, and benefitting the Post Office.Your;1, etc., East Sider.
