The editor of this journal, and Mr. Llewelyn Hayward of its contemporary— to whom felicitations on his marriage- were the first aerial passengers to Llan- wrtyd; and it would be less than grati- tude were it not placed upon record that they were received at the Wells with be- fitting ceremonial! The Abernant people took them into their plentiful hospitality, and feted the captain of the 'bus and his passengers so heartily that the memory of the day is still more pleasant because I of it. Are You There, Wells? I Llanwrtyd is a long-suffering and patient plaoe. If Swansea had to put up with the telephonic inconveniences to which the people of the Wells submit, it would go stark, raving mad! The difficulty seems to be the arrangement fixed by routine for a town lower down the line; and the extraordinary nature of the delays is well illustrated when I say that the two press- men—who cajoled and stormed and (nearly) cursed everyone from the Post- master-General to the telephone cat—were considered to have succeeded uncommonly well in getting through in two hours and a half. The manager of the Abernant puts in his mid-day call before breakfast! 1 would suggest that Llanwrtyd should take up this matter with vigour and press for instant redress. It is a first-rate scandal that business men recuperating at the Wells should be subjected to these intolerable delays. I A Public Institution. I The Swansea General and Eye Hospital is a public institution. It is supported by voluntary contributions, and its very exibteuce can be said to be dependent en- j tirolv upon the goodwill of the good folk r who contribute thereto. The Swansea I Hospital renders a public service of such magnitude that cannot adequately be em- phasised. Hundreds of cases, unsuitable I for home treatment, pass through the in- ,tistiuti,on every year. The public are miudful of their debt to the Hospital, and contribute liberally to its funds. I believe there is no one to deny that the public .is as dependent upon the Hospital as the latter is upon the public. On Sat- urday a gentleman journeyed from Aber- avon to see his father, who was lying dan- gerously ill at the Hospital. Owing to the heavy traffic the train arrived at Swansea an hour late and the traveller reached the Hospital some time after the I oiiicial visiting hours. Despite the un- usual and exceptional circumstances per- mission to see his father was refused him. As I have said the Swansea General 41ad Eye Hospital is a public institution sup- ported by voluntary contributions. A New Comet. A Scouts Camp. A Scoutmaster contin- ually added brushwood and logs of fir wood, and to a musical crackling the dry leaves converted into a spray of sparks shot into the air. The red heart of the fire was reflected in clear faces, and un- covered arms and knees of the lads who were engaged in singing popular choruses. Then a Scoutmaster turned on the grama- phone, a section gave a part-song, fol- lowed by a whistling solo or a 60111", with a chorus, and for an hour between supper and bedtime the boys made merry Then. joining bands, accompanied by a swaying movement around the red hot embers of the dying fire they sang 'Auld Lang .Sync' I and the National Anthem, before break- ing up and racing across the moonlit field to iLeir tents. Very soon I heard the camp bugler sound the lights out and the camp went to sleep. Welsh Place Names. iieachcomber in the Daily Ex- ,r,i,ess put a rathei amusing plea for the phonetic spelling of Welsh place names, by which he really means that the Homun alphabet shall have one pronun- ciation and one only, and that is to be tue English one.. On Saturday (he writes), I went to purchase for another a railway ticket to Llanwychlyn (and I would not swear that i have spelt the place correctly now, though I know it by Leart). Anyhow.
