For the Ladies.
For the Ladies. There will no doubt be an extraordinary vogue for lace in the coming season. The most popular lace will be filet, usually produced in a. rich creamy tint. This lace in coy unction with any coloured gown is charming. One at the latest crazes is the black dressing gown with troudour cap to match. They are mostly adorned with rich and elaborate embroidery, but are, I'm afraid, a tcrr ble price. A distinct feature c.f the new pannier frock is the butterfly bow. These bows we have borrowed from Second Empire days. Where the dresses are cut 1Í1'> in two wide panels, back and front, a serried row of little buttprSy bo-ws of ribbon vel- vet are seen between the two panels from just below the arm to the L, em. It is cer- tainly an attractive feature. Greon has always been a favourite colour —although not with the superstitious per- ron-but this year it is mare popular than ever. The tones most in favour are those of mignonette green and the two ehades of malachite and apple. These green suits are so coed and dainty. There is a tendency towards mote ful- ness m ail the new skirts, some of which ape inflated below the- waist, sometimes at the isides only, this effect being obtained by means of thick braids or thin wires. For the evening we see long tailoring gowns boin-g introduced; some of the-e long efcirts reach down to the ground all I round. and keep the feet well hidden. Wo will have to lea-rn the art of walking in I. t'L t -if long skirt,- if this fashioii comes to star. The pvemng- heed-dress ].8 coming bocl: to the fore again, and some, rprv delight- ful, are covered with owprey or paradise, j others are simply of blonde, brown or black tulle. The turban, entirely m,afl-. of tulle, goes wen with an evening' dregs. The popularity for waistcoats is cer- I tainly not on the wane. They are a most í practical combination of both blouse and waietisoat; the latter part is made of pique, di we tine, figured silk, or chintz, and ig fitted with back and sleeves of a very thin silk or cotton material. They are fastened with artistic buttons of old j china, enamell?-d gold, or silver, and even with those beautiful corneous which are so much in fa vent r just now. It is rather ridiculous to be talking of winter fashions during this glorious sum- mer weather, "but. we mn^t look ahead The new materials are all of softs pli»l»]' textures, after the fashion of the woollen jersey. Check*, stripes, and plaids in I abundance will be chosen th)? ?utuMn for suits. The butt'ins, too, will be chosen as II much for trinunings as use, and colorings generally will be rich and warm. ._Á

Children's Corner.
Children's Corner. BY UNCLE JOHN The contests thfe week were as interest- ing as any we have yet had, and they brought in ævcralk new competitors to take part. It Î6 very encouraging to find that those who have tried before and not obtained a prize are trying again and again, and in many cases improving as they go on. The Welsh entries, which, had been asked for, did not come up to my expec- tation in the Recollections of Old I'eople (" Adgofion Hen Bobl "). There wae not a single entry, but the English compositions were very interest- ing, and I think we will have another attempt at the same sort of subject in about a fortnight. THE DRAWING COMPETITION. Thera was a large hatch of entries in this contest, and, as I said yesterday, all sorts of drawing.s of all sorts of teapots were eent in. When Uncle Harold came in, r.nd I spread the drawings out for hirn to judge thore was quite a flutter in the Corner." Auntie Lettie, Cousin Bcrvl, Uncle1 Williatn, Uncle Sidney, and the boys crowded round him. They liked some of the teapots that he did not lik. but he I'j told them where thev-the teapots I I mean, of course—did not cümplŸ with the re.Guirmênts of th artists' rMm ?nd the conditions of th6 competition, His word was law, but it was wonderful to watch how lie made the others think they were the judges. He did that so quietly, you know. THE WINNERS. First pti? (g.) Thos. Taylor. Sunny-1 ban?. Voyhtot. Dunva?t (a-e 12). S?tond prize (3s.). Thos.G. Highly commended: Cyril Vincent. Lewis, Clwydfa, Wern-road, Skewen; Gwyn Davies, Hendy Cottage, Pen- cknvdd. Several of Uie drawings sent in failed to meet the condition laid down as to the use of black ink on white paper. It should be explained that this conditiou is intended to make it possible for the artists of th? ,Children's Corner to j p?ro.re a block from in order to j bring the picture out in the Leader." i I thank all the competitors for their efforts, and hope they will try again j whenever an opportunity is given that suits them. THE RECOLLECTIONS. I Although the entries were not so numerous as I thought they would have j been, there were einio excellent little stories and incidents written in English, First prize ,.). D. F. Davies, 6, Cae- gifts-cottages, Ffairfach, near Llandilo (who is there on his holidays, his home being at 43, North Hill-road, Mount Pleasant, Swansea). Second prize (3s.), intnsi Edwards, 11, I3rynymor-cre«eent, Swansea (ago 12). Third prize (2.). Mildred Pullin, 178, Kenein<fton-crescent, Swansea (flge 14). FROM THE HOLIDAY HOME." lhis is a letter from one of the children who, on Monday, ended their fortnight's holidays at the Holiday Home Sn Gower Berry Hall, Reynoldsten, i Gower, July 27th, 1919. Dear Uncle John,—We have now come to the end of our glorious holiday, &o I will tell you how we have spent this week. Sunday We went to church in the rtiorninf,r and evening, but as it was so hot in the afternoon we stayed home and wrote letters. We had tea in the garden. Monday was wet all day, so we had to stay in, but in the evening we had an en- joyable time playing gam-es in the parlour. Tuesday afternoon we went to Oxwkh Bay, and there we had a lovely time. Wednesday we went to see King Arthur's Stone in Reyncldston. Thursday we went to the woods to see the men working who were cutting down trees, and we came back in a hay cart. Friday we were in- vited out to tea at a farmhouse owned by Miss Davies. There we had a lovely tea, I and we saw the cows being milked and the calves being fed. Then we played in the orchard for a time, after which we scrambled for nuts and sweets. Then about 8.30 we came home. Saturday we went to Horton Bay for the day, and we ¡ had a lovely time paddling and playing games. When we came home about 6 ) o'clock we went to the hay field and ¡ began to make hay, after which we went 1 home, tired but happy. We have had a Ii glorious time, and we have been quite happy and comfortable. The food is ex- ¡ cellent., and everything is nice and clean here. Again I wish to thank the people who have taken part in giving us this I beautiful holiday.—Yours truly, Iris Tyrell. 1
