I i HOUSE OF LORDS.—THURSDAY, MARCH 26. IF ADJOURNMENT OF THE HOUSE. j jj In reply to a question from the Duke ot ivicnmona, JI respecting the adjournment for the Easter recess, and j the probable time for moving the second reading of the i [| corn-law repeal bill. "I' The Duke of Wellington intimated that it was his I intention, on the 7th of April, to move that their lord- | I. ships should adjourn to Tuesday, the 21st of April. With regard to the corn bill, until it reached the House I of Lords it was impossible to make any definite arrange- ment respecting it; but he thought he might safely take upon himself to say that the second reading would not take place before the 25th of the ensuing month. IRISH POOR LAWS. I. f The Earl of Clanearty, with reference to the iever (Ireland) bill, which had lately passed their lordships' house, begged to ask the noble earl who managed the Irish business in that house, whether the government was of opinion that there had been any indifference or neglect on the part of the boards of guardians in Ireland, to render the measure in question necessary ? The Earl of St. Germans, in reply, said there had been no intention whatever on the part of the govern- ment to cast any reflections on the boards of guardians in Ireland, to whose general zeal and efficiency he could bear ample testimony. The bill referred to was a tem- porary measure only, and actually increased the power of the guardians, by enabling them, in cases of sickness, to order relief to the sufferers at their own dwellings. FRIDAY, MARCH 27. After the presentation of some petitions, their lord- ships were for some time occupied with a discussion of the merits of the charitable trusts bill, which was fixed for the second reading this evening. At the suggestion of Lord Brougham, the second reading was postponed until after the Easter holidays.
