PEMBROKESHIRE- I THE HUST W EEK. Haverfordwest is experiencing one of the gayest Hunt weeks itihas had for many a year past. The ball-room last week contained upwards of 140 of the rank and beauty of the Principality, among whom were Earl and Countess of Cawdor, Viscount and Lady Emlyn, Sir Richard and Lady Phillips, &c. &c., and the dance was kept up with great spirit till an early hour. The Harmonic Society gives a concert this evening [Thursday] and it is believed from the number of tickets sold, and the increasing proficiency of the members, that there will be a bumper. THE FREEMASONS of Pembroke Dock purpose com- memorating the anniversary of their titular Saint on the 27th of December, by dining together in their large lodge room at the Victoria Hotel, Pembroke Dock. Mr. Kurd wood, an officer in Her Majesty service at Pembroke, has been elected master 8f the lodge; and will be, agree- ably to ancient custom, installed on that day. A THE ATRE has lately been opened at Pembroke Dock. On Wednesday three interesting little pieces were pro- duced in which the manager (who is certainly a clever ftctor) as well as others of the party, seemed to give uni- versal satisfaction. ELECTION OF A CORONER.—'Tuesday last being the day appointed for electing a Coroner for the county of Pembroke, in the room ot John Stokes Stokes, Esq., of Cutiern, who had, from ill health, petitioned the Loid Chancellor to be removed, John Stokes, Esq., (son of the above gentleman), was proposed by Win. Ed wardes, Esq., of Sealyham, seconded by W m. Evans, Isq., of Haver- fordwest, as a fit and proper person to serve the office. It was thought from the printed addresses of two medical gentlemen, that there would have been a contest, but no other candidate appealing, the sheriff, after the usual preliminaries, declared Mr. Stokes to be duty elected. Mr. Child's Fox Hounds will meet on Tuesday next at Marros Church; atul on Friday, at Caters Wood— each day at half-past 9.

CAltJajGAX SHIRK. -1 The Welshman, containing the LATEST LONDON NEWS, down to half-past 7 o'clock on Wednesday evening, may be procured every Saturday, at Mr. Joseph Roberts, Draper, London House, Aberystwth. The Lord Bishop of St. David's has been pleased. upon the representation of John Lloyd Davies, Esq., of Allt- yr-Odin, to grant a license for the celebration of mar- riages and the interment of bodies in Dewi Chapel, in the parish of Llandissil, in the county of Cardigan. ABEKYSTWITH HATIBOUR.-Tlie works at this great undertaking are drawing towards a close for the season. "We have repeatedly called public attention to the new pier and its importance to the trade of the town and country render it impossible to mention it too often. Upwards «f 92 thousand tons of stone have been hauled to it from its commencement, in blocks from 2 to 17 tons each. There are now 2Gllineal yards completed, leaving only 39 yards to make up the 300 which is the ultimate length contemplated. The sea slope is pitched and grouted with the best Aberthaw lime mortar; and a quantity of large blocks of stone are pi iced at the foot of the sea slope for its protection. The inner walling is composed of very heavy stones and the parapet wall is eight feet above the top of the pier, and of immense thickness. The stones forming its coping weigh from four to eleven tons each. The height of the pier is about 10 feet from the foundation to the parapet top, being 20 feet above ordinary spring tides, and the width at top 40 feet. A powerful capstan and mooring posts are fixed there-and landing steps are built in the inner walling. To have brought a work of this magnitude so near its ultimate completion lias required great efforts and still greater perseverance and too much praise cannot be rendered to the Trustees (and especially to Mr. James Hug'.es and the finance committee) for their efforts in providing the ways and means" for the undertaking. We are glad to find that the Trustees intend to make a strong and final push next year to finish the whole work and extend it to its intended length of 300 yards. ABERYSTWITH TOWN HALL.—Magistrates present: John Evans, Mayor: George W. Parry. Esq., John Davies, Esq., Pantyvedwen, R. O. Powell, Esq Capt. Bonsall. Edward Jones was brought up, charged with breaking the windows of a house at Trevechan, and with a violent assault upon Police Constable Evans in the discharge of his duty. Both charges being fully proved the prisoner was fined 5s., or 7 day's imprisonment for the first offence, and t5, or two month's imprisonment for assaulting the Police Constable—Margaret Evans, better known as J'cay>/ Clarach, was brought up, c harged "With drunkenness and disorderly conduct. This must he about the thirtieth time that she has exhibited in this character at the Town Hall. She has been repeatedly ?ent to Cardigan Jail, and confined for different periods 11 the Aberystwith House of Correction but she is as incorrigible as ever. Yet she boasts, and we believe with truth, that she does not steal, and because she is not a thief, we presume she claims the privilege of committing every other vice. She is also not without a spice of hunaour in her composition. On Tuesday, when his Worship reproached her with being there so often— Often Mr. Evans Uwh" replied she I have not been here now these eleven weeks!" after a sharp reprimand she was discharged. As it seems a hopeless task to punish Peggy into sober habits, the next best thing is to punish those who supply her with drink, and see what good that will do. As she is sure to be "pulled up" again, within another seven weeks," the first question to her then should be, who gave you drink ? If the names of the publicans who are found to have supplied her be sent to the magistrates on litvnsing-day, and if these Kentlemen only do their duty, as we are sure they will, we strongly suspect there will be greater intervals than eleven weeks between Peggy's public appearances, at the town- hall. HARBOUR MEETING.—A meeting of the Trustees of !the Aberystwith Harbour took place at the Town-Hall, Awti Tuesday last, John Evans, Esq., Mayor, in the Chair. I he principal object of the meeting was to take into con. sideration the best means of making the waste property -Of the Trust available. From What occurred at the "Mining,it .appears that there has been great neglect on ;!he part of rthe Trustees with reference to the waste land In question. Though several committees have been ap- pointed, ;nid .reports made during the last ten years, yet 'he business cf making the most of the waste land has not yet been seriously grappled with and it is apprehended that not merely .part of such land has been lost by such neglect, but tilitt more is in danger of being lost from c,i,croaciiinctit., coi)st;ititly made. It was therefore re- solved that the Solicitor of the Trust, under the direction of .the Committee, consisting of the Mayor, Mr. John 'Hughes (Solicitor), Capt. Teale, Mr. George W. Parry, tl,.d M r. Thomas Jones, J un., do carry into effect the re- solution of 17th of October, 1838, with reference to the report of the Committee of the 29th of December, 1834, -tid to report on the same at the next quarterly meeting On the Hh of January next. And that such committee do also propose a code of bye-laws for the regulation of the Harhoiii, and the same to be produced at the next quar- terly meeting. At the above meeting a lease for 21 years *ai granted to the Aberystwyth Coal Company of the .41 jarf at Trevechan, at £ 16 a year, to commence *rom the 25th of Mar?h next. Brigstocke, and the Rev. lB. Lewi?, clerk. Constables were appointed under the provisions of the 5th and 6th Victoria, cap. 109 for the several parishes of Cenarth, Llandifriog, Bangor, Troedyraur and Penbryn.—John Rees, and William Rees, (father and son) carriers, and James Evans, labourer appeared to answer a complaint of John James, for assault 011 his person, for which he had been nearly killed by those three rude persons (with spreaders) William Rees and James Evans, (commonly called S!i .,ttiy Twin Evan) were fined each in the penalty of five pounds in default of payment to be each committed to the House of Correction for two months. William Rees paid; James Evans was committed, this his his seventh imprisonment; once for rape on a respectable irirl, twice with indictment for assaulting: Newcastle-Emlyn constables while in their due execution of office, four times for itssault-lie, has put the county to more expence than any other person in it, there is not the least re- pentance, al though he has been several times warned by their worships.

Tiir, MITRDFR I- B FTIIEST)A-qTRrET, On Tuesday morning- last, Mr. William Rees, Superin- tendent of the Police Force, succeeded in apprehending Rees Griliiths, one of the men charged with the wilful murder of John Bowling, and who kicked O'Connor. Immediately after the perpetration of the dreadful crime Griffiths absconded, and could not be found, although (I ligetit and unremitting search was made; but a few days ago, a clue was obtained, which led to his capture. Ife was committed the same day to the House of Correction, to await his trial at the next Spring- Assizes. SWANSEA POLICE, Nov. 28.—Before G. G. The fine was Pli(I.Jolili Jones, Sawyer, was convicted in the penalty of 18s. ud. including costs, for having- assaulted Sophia Tucker singlewoman, on the 25th of November. The fine was paid.—William Jones, olias" Billy my boy," a person who has made himself notorious by annoying the teetotallers at their meetings, wns in custody at the police office, charged with begging; but the person who gave him in custody not appearing to press the charge, he was dis- missed.—On the 30th ult., before the same magistrates, George Riddler, cf Stvsnse.i, Cork-cntter, was convicted in the penalty of tl 8s. 6d, including costs, for having on the 28th instant, assaulted Anne Morgan, the wife of Thomas Morgan, of Swansea, cordwainer, and in default of payment was committed to the House of Correction for !X weeks. It appeared in evidence that the prisoner broke "Den the door of the defendant's house—that she was sitting by tin; fire with two on her lap- that he struck her twice violently, cluz;ne one of the children to fall under the grate-aud then the monster ended this most manly exploit by dancino- and hurrainc in the house. The prisoner left the bar with the air of a tragedian, reciting some lines from the Rape of the Lock.On the 1st inst., before the Mayor, and Richard Aubrey, Esq. Elizabeth Riddler, keeper of the Prince Albert" beer-shop, High-street, was convicted in the pe- nalty of 10s. including costs, for suffering beer to be drunk beer to be drunk in her house after 11 o'clock, on the night of the 28th ult. AccIDENT.-B the want of proper sewerage and drainage, the cellars of the houses in Union Buildings are partially filled with water after every heavv s hower of rain. Owing to the late rain, the cellars and kitchens of the first ten housesj have, at least, water to the depth of two feet in them. "On Monday afternoon last, a child, 18 months old, narrowly escaped drowning in the cellar of the Free Mason's Arms. The mother, with two or three other women were sitting in the kitchen, indulging in a little wholesome heart-reviving bit of gossip, and quite forgot the child. At length, having finished business, the poor little thing was thought of, but could not be found. Search was made: the cellar door being open, induced one of the women to go down; when she discovered the poor little neglected innocent, to all appearance, dead. The cries of the attentive mother brought the neighbours in, some of whom promptly took means for the child's restoration, which after a very considerable interval were providentially attended with success. Query-Had this child per shed, to which might its death have been attributed, the criminal necrlect of the mother, or the will of fate ?" The latter opinion seemed to prevail among the women, one of whom remarked on the child evincing tokens of life.—"Ah! poor lamb, her time is not come you see!" The mother and father of the child reside somewhere in the parish of Llangavelach their names we could not learn. A young man was drowned in the river Tawe, near Clydach, on Sunday last. The river was very much swollen by the late heavy rains, and the deceased very imprudently attempted to cross on horseback but he had no sooner reached the middle of the stream, than the horse and rider were dashed away and both perished. ACCIDENT.—On Saturday the 26th inst., an inquest was held at the Angel Inn, Merthvr, before Mr. Davies, Esq., coronor, on the body of Lewis Lewis, collier, aged 56 years, who died on Friday, in consequence of injuries sustained by being severely burnt with fire-damp on the preeeeding Thursday, in a coal-pit at the Plymouth I ron- wor ks. Verdict," accidental death." Mr.RTHYR PETTY SESSIONS were held on Friday the 2.5th ult., before G. R. Morgan, Esq., and the Rev. C. Maybery. Howell Howells, Dowlais, appeared to ans- wer the complaint of Superintendent Nivies, for keeping open the house for the sale of beer, during the hours of Divine Service, on Sunday the 20tli inst.; fined 10s and I costs. Joseph Jones, Phillip Rees, Wm. Richards, landlords, all of Merthyr, were summoned by the same complainant for similar offences each fined 10s. and costs. Rees Jones, Merthyr, was summoned by the same complainant for a like offence, and fined 5s. and costs. Hannah Evans was charged by Elizabeth Jones, both of Merthyr, with assaulting her, on the 11 th. inst. case dismissed, complainant to pay costs. John Tho- mas, of Merthyr, was charged by Jane Thomas of the same place, with an assault, on the 18th inst. fined 5s. and costs. Esther Jones was charged by Margaret Mead, with assaulting her on the 15th inst; fined Is. and costs amounting to 12s.: and in default of payment was com- mitted to Cardiff House of Correction for M days. Ellen Morgan was charged by Sarah Jones, both of Merthyr, with assaulting her on the 11th inst. case dismissed, complainant ordered to pay costs. John Davies appear- ed to answer a summons obtained ap, itist him, by his wife Frances, for assaulting and ill-using her at different times, which defendant did not altogether deny; but there were several little incidents that transpired in the course of the examination, which by no means tended to raise Mrs. Davies in the estimation of the court. The case was dismissed, and complainant ordered to pay costs. Joseph Palley was summoned by William Joseph, for non-payment of wages; ordered to pay part of the domand and costs. Edwin NI illiams, Penydarran, ap- peared to answer the complaint of John Evans, for de taining a pair of shoes, the property of Complainant in what is termed a "lark." The lark" cost Williams 13s. expenses, and ordered to return the shoes forthwith. Jane Jenkins was summoned by Thomas Rees, both of Metthyr, for removing household furniture in order to evade the payment of rent due to complainant; the charge could not be sustained; complainant to pay costs. Thomas John and Thomas Davies, stewards of a benefit society, appeared to answer the complaint of Rees Jones, of Hirwain, for refusing the sick allowance to the com- plainant's father, who is a member of the said society: defendants ordered to pay the demand and costs. THE IRON TRADE continues very flat. No great orders and the briskness of the past months has vanished away. The stock of ore is iather large at most of the works, consequently the circumstances cf the underground men are very distressing. The amount of their earnings scarcely reaches on an average jg2, which, to have pro- visions (though cheap), coal, house-rents, &c. leaves but very little for clothing, clubs, and other necessaries for large families. lu fact they are too little.

The smaller sum required to purchase an open area than one covered \VJth IIIhabIted houses, the ruinous condition of our present market place which must be shortly rebuilt, and the expense provided for by a heavy borough-rate, the removal of the standings from our public-streets, a dis- grace to the Principality, and a serious injury to the rate-paying tradesman, who loaded with heavy rates has to compete with persons contributing in no way to the Public burthens, and therefore, able to undersell him at IllS own door, with the recollection that the projected ilicasures of the Council cannot add a shilling to the parish rates, should I think enlist every one anxious lor the prosperity of the town in their favour. Alr. Cliarlies Brigstocke stated that he had not seen the memorial until the night before its presentation, and he wished the public to know that the expense of the new market-place would not be more than one half of the sum required to improve the old nmrket-place. The following resolution was then put, and the meeting adjourned: — The Council having forwarded Dr. Bowen (one of the memorialists) a copy of the resolution passed at the last meeting, and having waited two hours, for a deputation from the memorialists to explain their objection to the removal of the site of the present market-place, and no person having attended on their behalf, Resolved, that the Council can come to no other con- clusion, than that the memorialists have mistaken the objects the corporation have in view, and have no real ground of opposition to their projected measures. The Council regret that the memorialists have not given them an opportunity of explaining the advantages likely to accrue to the rate-payers by the adoption of their plans. THE INCOME TAX.—Many of our contemporaries are daily expressing a hope that the receipt of tive millions from China will supersede the levying of Sir Robert Reel's Income Tax. We ourselves indulge in no such hope. The Premier, like any other high-flyer, was bought, as it were, with all his faults, and it is equally flNurd to suppose he will let us off from the bad bargain <1S to co,liplaiii that he is not free from vice. B; sides no effectual opposition was given to the impost, and we are -ecoldin.;ly, ct wholly vithout deserving lie burthen saddled with it. In our own district, that is in four counties, the town of Carmarthen alone we think even raised its voice against it. We urged the necessity of Public meetings, but not one was held except in our own Town-Hall. I LLAXELLY PETTY SESSION'S WE1. held al the Town- hall, on Saturday last.—Magistrates present W. Cham- rs, J. H. Rees, and W. Chambers, jun., John Harris appeared in answer to two complaints for i trespasses committed in pursuit of game in the parish of tIang-endeirnc. Defendant admitted having been there but said he had leave, and produced a paper purporting to be signed by the tenants of those farms. The case was adjourned for a week to give time to prove that he had such leave.- David Jones appeared to answer a charge of Messrs. Sims, Willyams and Co. for throwing coal off a I Waggon, thereby committing a wilful trespass. Evidence having been produced he was fined the value of the coal I 6d. and 7s. costs, or in defauult to be committed 14 days to hard labour.-Daniel Williams v. Thomas Francis. A complaint was exhibited herein under the Tenancy Act. Due service of holding by complainant and service of notices to quit, and of application having been proved, warrant of possession was ordered. LL k-, ELLY.-Ttic parts of a vessel washed ashore at Cornel Mawr (noticed in our last publication,) are sup- posed to have belonged to the lieyina, of Exeter; part of the stern having siiice come ashore, with the letters R- G-N-E-X painted on it. Part also ot the wreck was fallen in with by the Reuent, of Fowey, an the 17th inst. about 15 or 20 miles S.W. of the Mumbles.
