UoRoroii QtrATiTPR 'SrssiONS.—Thesr Quarter Se ZiOng Were held on Saturday last, before John Wilson, q. itecortier for the Borough. The usual preliminaries having been gone through, the following gentlemen were sworn oil the Grand Jury ;—ATr. David Charles, foreman I i,,tr l es, foreiiiail Messrs. W. Morris. O. P. Thomas, Fred. Moss, John Adams, John Phillips, W. R. Davies, John Jones, James Mortimer, D. Nicholls, John M orse, John Rogers, and John Jones. The Learned Recorder addressed them in nearty the following terms:—"GENTLEMEN OF THE TjRAND JURY,— I understand it is not likely that any bu- siness of a criminal nature will be brought before you, it tvill therefore be my pleasing duty to discharge you. I however, deem it my duty to bring before your notice an Act of Parliament passed so lately as 14 days ago, by Which the jurisdiction of the Courts of Quarter Sessions is very much limited. The act was passed on the ;30th of June, and is intituled An Act to define the duties of the Justices of the Peace in Quarter Sessions assembled,' and by which their power of trying prisoners for a va- riety of offences is taken away. By this act they are not allowed to try for treason, suspicion of treason, for mur- der, or for any sort of treason; and a great number of other offences, amounting to 18 in all, are, by this Act Withdrawn from the jurisdiction of the Court of Quarter Sessions. Now, as the power of trving for these seveta l offences is taken away, it will be incumbent upon Magis- trates to take care not to commit prisoners charged with any of the offences enumerated in the Act for trial at Quar- ter Sessions. These observations are more applicable to the Justices than to you; but 1 deem it my duty to inform you of any new Acts of Pailiament that may have been passed whenever I have the pleasure of meet- ing you. Understanding that there are no bills to be brought before you. I have the satisfaction of dismissing von. and your country thanks you for your attendance." Some trifling business of no importance to the public was transacted, and the business of the Quarter Sessions was ? concluded.
