A CARDIGANSHIRE SCHOOL BOARD…
A CARDIGANSHIRE SCHOOL BOARD I ELECTION. THE KATEBOOK MANIPULATED BY THE NONCONFORMISTS. The result of the school board election for the united parithes of Llechryd, Llaix- goedmore, andTremain, Cardiganshire, was officially declared yesterday. The following were tho suc- cessful candidates :-Thoma.s Harris, Llechryd, 3;,8; Stephen Lewis, Tygwyn, 343; ThomaB Jones, Cilfowi, 222; David James, 153; Key. David Her- bert, Tremain, 143. Mr. Thomas Edward Lloyd, Coedmorej who was also a candidate, polled 130 votes. Nineteen householders whose names were iNtettedby the M?utimt overseer after the rate- book had been signed, abstained from voting. In explanation of the last sentence, we quite the following extraordinary statement from the Cardimn Advertiser Just before going to press it has come to our knowledge that ill" asiiist- ant overseer for the parish of Llochryd, having been celled to account by tho auditor for the state cf his rate book, upon which the register of this election is founded, a batch of 19 names bracketed tcgether as the school committee, meaning the Llechryd British School Committee, having to all appearances been inserted after the rate book had been signul by the magistrates, has confessed that such names were inserted by him under the direc- tion, and at the request of a gentleman who Is one of the Nonconformist candidates at the present election. We are also given to understand that the auditor will report the matter to the Local Government Board, when no doubt an early official inquiry will take place. We presume the 19 gentle- men whoFe names have been so inserted will not run the risk of recording their votes."

LOCAL LAW CASE. I COURT OF CHANCERY-TULISDAY. (Before Vice-Chancellor AlALIN.1 I MORGANS V. EVANS. This was a fcuit for tho purpose of reforming a settlement. It was agreed betweon the plailltiff andherhutband before their mamago that this money should remain in her absolute control A letter was accordingly written and signed by the plaintiff, addressed to Mr. J. E. Evans, solicitor, of the fiim of Powell, Mathias, and Evans, of Haverfordwestl requesting him to draw a mirriage settlement. Morg.m.plMntiK'a husband called on Mr. E?n .the latkr drew up a formal instruction note, which ho handed to Morgans to sign. As he alleged, he was able to read, but imperfectly, and supposing the note merely embodied the instructions contained in the letter ignedit. The form of the settlement drawn up and executed by the parties, was in accordance with the instructions signed by Benj. Morgans; but it "gave the plaintiff and her husband life interests only in tM money, w"u aiwrntvw remainder to the issue, of the marrige. Plain tiff and her hmband having become desirous of opening an Mttcs-boBM in Ney!and, applied to Mr. Evana pl, of their money; and as they alleged, for tho first time became aware that the pll,?l had no control over it. The bill prayed that th* settlement micht be reformed by expunging such portions of it as were inconsistent with the free control of the plaintiff ovor the sum secured by the deed. The defendants to the suit were Mr. Evans and the othor trustee of the settle- ment, and the infant children of the plaintiff. Mr. Olasce, Q. C and Mr. J. B. Woodruffe woro for the plaintiff; Mr. Beon appeared for the de. In the course of the hearing tho Viee-ChanoeUor expressed an opinion that the settlement ought to be set aside, but that there was no improper mo- tive on the pMt of Mr. EvlUIs. His Honour sug- gested that tha matter should be Mttled by the defendants eonamUc g to what the decree uked at;d the phinttif p?mg M:;s:: :ef pocket. Til. was agroed to, aud the court made aD order that the settlement should be reformed, »nd the plaintiff permitted to receivo the £350, less Mr. Evans' ocsts out of pocket to an extent not ox- ceediiig .t:2<\
