I BHAVE KERCH AST MtM REWARDED A fund has been established at Lloyd's for the purpose of making awards to cap- tains, officers of British and Allied mer- chant vessels for gallant conduct in cases where their vessels have been, at- tacked by enemy submarines. The awards are given as honorary ack- nowledgments of gallant conduct, and are irrespective of whether the attacked vessels and their cargoes are insured at Lloyd's or not. A cheque for £250 from Lloyd's has been awarded in the case of the Anglo-Californian. The Anglo-Californian was attacked oft the south of Ireland by a German sub- marine, but in spite of a heavy shell fire, under which the captain and other mem- bers of the crew were killed or wounded at their posts, the vessel was brought into Queenstown.
