I've just called in j to thank you for the recipe. My husband and children were delighted with the "Duchess Buns" of which you spoke last week and I was surprised to find how easily they were made. Have you any more good recipes ? | Yes, I made such a pretty dish from a "Bird'g" recipe yesterday, and it is simply delicious. This is it: Jelly and Blanc-mange. 1 packet of Bird's Crystal Jelly Powder, and 1 packet of Bird's Blanc-mange powder. Method: Prepare the .T?lly as u«ual. pour into a qu?rt mould and whei ready F,t,tr.dln 'o"? wtter i-,ntil set: then make the Bird's Blanc-mange and anow it to cool at least half-an-hour. When ready pour it very gently on to the top of the Jelly. having wiped over beforehand with a clean wet cloth the inside of the mould. Let it thoroughly set. and turn out in the ordinary manner. At the ('o.r off rilfirlfJ extra trouble this dteh Us stilt more attractive when made with several lai/en> cf Blan^ilan-oe and Jelly, according tu the above method. Be sure it is Bird's Blanc-mange and Bird's Crystal Jelly or you will not get that fresh fruit flavour which is the secret of success. Tber* are 2 packets Bird's Blanc-Mange Powder in the 4d.. and 4 in the 7id. box. Bird's Crystal Jelly is in 2d.. 3d. and 6id. packets. C ebb—■—i— r BEN EVANS j & CO. I SWANSEA SCHOOL BUILDINGS.
SWANSEA SCHOOL BUILDINGS. TENDER FOR FURNISHING BAPTIST WELL COES TO LONDON. At a meeting of the Building Com- mittee of the Swansea Education Authority on Friday afternoon, the tender ot Messrs. Bennett, of Old Kent- road, London, for turnishing of the new Baptist WeU temporary school, was axx-epted. The Superintendent of Education re- ported on certain alterations which I might be made in connection with Cwm School; and the Borough Architect was insinuated to report and submit esti- mia-t-es ior dividing some of the rooms now occupied by two classes, so as to make them available for three. An application for the loan of Plas- niarl School for the use of a Brother- hood was considered, but the Commit- tee adhered to its previous decision not to grant the use of any school or class- room on Sundays.

THE HOME CORtR. ! I - .00.
THE HOME CORtR. .00. THE ENGAGED GIRL AID HER PtAMCE-S RELATIVES. WHERE TACT IS HEEDED. (BY MARCARET MURRAY.) Ilhe most pleasins feature ot t.de rooentJ Ijadies^ Golf Tournament was tins utter absence of petty jealousy and spite." I cluoto this from the Press criticism of a maTi who seemed very glad to be alilie to chronicle th/vt only good huinout prevaiiied even under most tryir.g con- ditions. Whjat a splendid tribute to the lvmofilial effects of women mixing i'red\ in outdoor aocfivities, ami develop-in^ their minds through widei* sources than could possibly reach them at home < Vou can say what you like, but en- vironment does tell. Shut a woman in- doors, or keep her restricted in any way. and her mental devollJPment is ar- reste"d beciaiisc it is starved. It shrinks and grows small. As the mind becomcs cramped through lack of exciting, stimuli, so do her ideas and actions be- come petty a1 contemptible. But give a woman freedom; let her mix freely with broadening influences; and her natiiral aptitude for assimilating facf,, and impressions quickly, will develop her intellect at an enormous rate. Thank goodness ire have broken away frnn; that period when a narrow-minded Ktay-at-hon.^ woman was considered Ü be the ^deal of a womanly woman, ajid a tomboy was regarded as something un- orthoflox and wicked. The tomboy wa* the forertvtmer of the modern sports girl. Most girls are tomboys to-day, foi parents a.re .vise enough to let all tlieii girls play a. and T-it-h beys, and 50 allow them to develop naturally and healthily. The day of tho annperuig, serpcait-tongued sibi lant-whuspei 1 iig, scandal mongerintc spinster has gOlLe with the fashions of long ago. The true out door sports girl does far less harm than the former typo of slyness and :1ndAÍ.t,v. In healthy giriliood there is a chance for a weltdeyeitq>ed v.wra- 1-ood, culminating in the perfect nhvsique necessary for the best condi- tions of motlwhood. Clrild-beaxing women especially should be oat-of-tkxirs, in touch with the worderful realities of i,ati-Lro--tl)o vi:iaid that blows, the birds that sing. the flowers that bloom, the sea that breaks, and all quickened in- visibly by the same power that shall cause the child to breathe. If I had my desire tnere should be flowers, florwers an the way for those about to be motaheie. Xtist in knvu-on- n-ent of beauty and happiness, love and hope. What a dharago from the worn-, and work. pain and prwerty which some poor mothers endure! I A Picnio. We had a lovely picnio last week— I the first of the season It was a very t hot day, so we ivealt to tho Dingle-- r eucli a pretty place, with banks covered with waving biuo-bo;is and huge hU,S}h:6 of yellow bloom, all in flower, making the gorse look eveo* so faded and shabby. And down by the brock the shy prim- roses hid, and such modest violets were to be found, right in. the grass under the haiv-tborii xedge. For lunch we had Cornish pasties, made of niro, short crust <md shredded i ,ovc-?r vv-bicli I ?d only rubbed an I ionicn', as the fl1Nour is nim even iN-I-ieni (the onion itself is objected to. Th<m there were little "griddle cakes" haked on a bakestone, and a few biscuits with shoes of cheese between for the .grown- Ii ups. We all went—'Punch and Judr as ??]L Punch is the puppy, you kT?ow. he I can't t<'H you h.s pedigree, for he hadn't get. one, but ho has a long tai), which authorities fell me should have been bitten off. He apparently thinks so too, for Inost of the time he spends in chafing his tail round and round, yappir«g furiously at its white tip cause it always eludes hini. Judy, tlv* little black ct. with a pink bow round its neck, sulked the whole time, because rihe Accidentally got vetted through a lemonade bottle opening too suddenly. jShe wouldu't notice eYn a little green 'h'og which, qui to um-nTited, jumped on ivii;cli. (I IDt ,,? jtijnpea l on It was a lovely time—only the dog and myself disgraced ourselves; he by catching a baby rabbit, and I by taking I an egg from a Mater-hen's nest, whiob 'was hidden in qorre sedges. Fortun- j ately the wat?r-hen was a I)oor anth? ilw?ician, for apparent]y she neTcr inc4iced the loss of the egg, and std) • stuck to the nest, from which, with the aid of a spoon tied to a bean stick, I had taken some of hor property. The Engaged Girl. I A friend of mine who has recently be- come engaged, came round to toll me that next week she is going to pay her i first visit to her ifance's family. She is naturally a very sweet-tempered girl, and I was rather surprised to hear hei state her intention of being determined to keep her end upclitiing her visit." "1. feel as if I am going out on ap- probation," she said, but I'm sure 1 shall not allow myself to be sat upon. "H'm," I replied, "if you are going in that spirit you had better stay at home, for there's going to be trouble." Ilere she looked sulky, but I didn't mind "Here you are," I told her, quite a decent girl if you'll only allow your- iself to be natural, but you are allowing in..ake N-oti I aggressiveness, which will m-uke you chs'agreeable. His mother and sister i will be nervous, too, and will certainly Icriticiso you, just as you will criticise them, It is oiila- natural jthat they should, but they are also certain to want to try to like you for the boy's sake, and out of compiinMnt rto his ch oice. So do try to go in a friendly spirit. .F'rie:ndli i;€? not mean servility, and you c;ui be in&pe.ndent witliout being combative. "llat you r.eec1 is tact, tatt, tact." I ejnphasised the point because I was afraid she would notice that it is one myself—but there, it is so much easier to preach than to praclise And when she left me-in qiiite a good huiiK-ur—she promised to come round and report- after the dreaded visit is over, and caJled roe a. deiar old "wisehead," whsch I didn't like bo- cause it sounds so mucli like "white- head," which is really getting quite too J.X'rilousIy near the truth to be enjoy- able.

"Ttie Daily inewki and Leader" cays 01 The Kinetopohone;- The King and Queen sat in a picture t,hatre at, Knowpley Hall after they ho,d dined wit,h their hosts, I/ord and Lady Derby. One cf the features of the euteitainment was lire first ap-pearance in this country cf the new Edison invention called the Kine- tophone, in which the King and Queen were greatly interested. Tt is the American in- ventor's latest improvement on the cine- matograph and phoncgra.ph, and the syn- chronisation of moving" objects with the sounds they create is per.fe-ct. The band etruck up, and on the screen there appeared a gentleman in evening dress. As he walked into the picture the King and Queen were highly amused to hear the sound of his feet pattering on the floor. The man on the screen be,an to talk. He sat down at the piano and skimmed his fingers on tlhe notes. Then he played a tune on the violin, Bounded a bugle, broke a plate, sangr a. song, and began to dance. The (jeene quickly changed to Bonnie Soot- land, and their Majesties heard the sound of the bagpipes and wa.tched a sword dance. The scene changed again, and they were amused by the buffoonery of a minstrel troupe. One of the minstrels gave a stump speech, and the whole company on the screen then rose and sang God Save the King." The King obviously enjoyed this wonderful combination of motion and sound.
