Notes and Comments. 4. Moving Ahead in Ammanford. It is pleasant to note that, true to its reputation, Ammanford is moving ahead in its preparations for utilising, as early as possible, its public park, and the steps taken at the last meet- ing of the Urban District Council, to abate nuisances, provide supervision, and generally arrange for acquiring possession by legal title, are all indi- cations of a continuance of the for- ward march which the town has so rapidly and so regularly kept up dur- ing the past few years. It is not Ammanford's fault that the Valley has not yet concluded its sewerage scheme discussion, and the sooner other places attend to so vital a ques- tion, the better it will be for all con- cerned. The Council will meet again on Friday to consider plans and estimates of the two schemes for the proposed new water mains from Park Henry break-pressure tank to Pont- amman. These are important mat- ters, and the time and attention de- voted to them is creditable to the public spirit of those upon whose shoulders has devolved the carrying on of local govenment in Ammanford. There is, of course, much yet 'to be done to improve the condition of the Urban District, but in a new and quickly-developing area, there is always a difficulty in actually keep- ing pace in sanitary matters and public improvements with the indus- trial and commercial growth of such a place. In some places, there are public men who stand in the way, as well as private interests to combat and overcome, but Ammanford is 1 fortunate, at all events, in being led by men who are imbued with a full share of the enterprise of modern times, and who, although they may differ 011 methods, agree in adopting and applying as their motto—con- sciously, or unconciously—the words "Floreat Ammanford!" From Civic Life to Sports. Nor is it only in civic life that Am- manford people are keen in uphold- ing their reputation. Sports and pastimes are well represented in the movements being set on foot for the coming winter, for it is obvious that winter, with its accompaniment of "vim and "go" (as the Americans say) is approaching, notwithstanding the fine days which we are still en- joying. Programmes and fixture lists, and what not, are being pre- pared, as our columns indicate, and as the busy times in the printing office prove. And, as if to remind { us that we need not wait for Tioblii Redbreast to show that "Christmas is coming," we already see posters out, 1 announcing an event for Christmas Eve. But the football people are J beginning their sport well, and the record of the Ammanford soccer j team's maiden victory over theAlond team may be taken as an omen, we hope, of rattling good play during the season. There certainly is some ad- ) vantage in "drawing first blood." We use the phrase in a figurative sense, of course. Again, we say, Floreat "May things hum." < A Repudiated "Forecast." f Some of the London Tory papers are very fond of forecasting what a Liberal Government will, or will not, do. Last week there was a seem- ingly semi-confidential" forecast" í sent broadcast of Mr. Lloyd George's land compaign programme, hints and I inuendoes as to the attitude of various members of the Cabinet towards the "report" which had been prepared and its suggestions.
