EDEYRNION RURAL DISTRICT COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the above Council was held at the Board Room, Corwen; on Friday, when Mr. R. J. Jones presided in the absence of the chairman. The following members were also present:—Messrs. Thomas Williams, John Roberts, Robert Evans, Thadeus Jones, Hugh Jones, 0. A. Lloyd, R. E. Humphreys, Ernest Hughes, R. D. Williams (Surveyor) Dr. D. R. Edwards < (Medical Officer) E. Derbyshire (Clerk). The Minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed and signed by the Chairman. Danger Signals. The Council decided to call the attention of the local County Councillors to the dangerous roads in the district and to ask them to call the attention of the County Council to the matter with a view to having danger signals erected and also that several walls be repaired. Corwen Water Works. It was resolved that Mr. Berrington, Wolver- hampton, be asked to visit the Ministry of Health on behalf of the Council in connection with the purchase of the Corwen Water Works from the local water company. Housing Scheme. A circular was read from the Ministry of Health urging the Council to proceed with the scheme with the utmost despatch. Plans of all the proposed building sites are to be sub- mitted to the Housing Commissioners at Car- diff not later than October 31st. The Surveyor reported that the Architects (Messrs. Aneurin Foulkes Jones and N. Davies Garner), had visited all the sites in the district -and the plans would be submitted forthwith. Letters were read from the Clerks of the ,Gwyddelwern and Llangar Parish Councils applying for more houses. Gwyddelwern applied for 15 houses to be erected in the village instead of 10, while Cynwyd wants 8 instead of 4. Both applications were granted. The Surveyor submitted a report of his visit to the houses in the district in connection with the Housing Scheme as follows:- (A) Houses with living room, scullery and two bedrooms, 497. (B) Living room, scullery and two bedrooms, 36 (c) Parlour, living room and two bedrooms, 70 (D) Parlour, living room, and 3 bedrooms, -383. (o) Parlour, Living Room, and 4 bedrooms, 166. Other working class dwellings 54 large houses over the above scale 96 mith only one room upstairs and one down, ,with 374 people living in them under terrible ^conditions. ( v. Medical Officer's Report. Dr. D. R. Edwards submitted his monthly report as follows :—The district is free from all infectious diseases. Eleven births and five peaths have occurred in the district since my last report. I New Urinal. A Committee was appointed to select a suit- able site for the erection of a new public urinal at the west end of the town of Corwen, and to submit a report at the next meeting. I Claim for Damages. Owing to Mr. Brown, timber merchant, Liverpool, having refused the Council's claim for £ 20 for damage caused to roads in the district by the timber hauliers employed by him, the Council were compelled to seek legal aid and it was unanimously decided to engage the services of Mr. J. R. Jordan, solicitor, Bala. I Carrog Water Supply. I After a long discussion it was decided that a Parish Meeting of all Carrog Ratepayers be held to discuss the question of obtaining an adequate water supply for the village. I Cynwyd Water Supply. I The Surveyor reported that he had found a water spring near Cynwyd which discharged 600 gallons of water per hoqr. The Council decided that a sample of the water be analysed and if it proved fit for drinking purposes, the Chairman and Surveyor were appointed to visit Major R. Vaughan Wynn to ask his terms for a water supply for Cynwyd. Precept. I The District Rate for the next half-year was fixed at 6d. in the £ with a Special Rate of I 3d. in the £ on the Parish of Corwen. Rat Week. I The Surveyor read a letter from Mr. John Hughes, G.W.R. Permanent Way Inspector, Corwen, asking what steps the Council pro- pose to take regarding the destruction of rats in this district during rat week which commences on October 20th. It was decided to arrange rat drives throughout the district during the week. Workmen's Wages Increased. i A Circular from the Ministry of Labour re the granting of an increase of workmen's wages. A letter was also read from the Work- men's Union applying for an increase of salary. Mr. R. E. Humphreys stated that be had received a similar circular from the Ministry of Labour re the workmen's wages at the Dee-Clwyd Granite Quarries and the Company had since been compelled to increase the work- men's wages, he feareH that if the question was left to the Ministry the Council would be com- pelled to make a very substantial increase in the men's wages. He proposed that the wages be increased to £ 2 per week. Mr. John Roberta, Carrog, seconded the proposition which was carried. In reply to a question the Surveyor stated that the men worked forty-eight hours per week. 0
