Mr. IVa hdla and Mrll. Cljukb. COURT OF Kll\\G's RRNCH. THE KING. V. M. A. CL R KE, AND D. AND F. WRIGHT, FOR A Conspiracy. On Monday this indictment came to he beard. The Court was filled at aMearty hour, and long before daylight the hull was thronged hy persons of all descriptions. At nine o'clock, Lord Ellen- borough came ittto, Coiji-; and shortly after, the Dukes of York, Kent, Glocesier, and several other distinguished personages. Mr. Aralvin, die junior Counsel for the prosecution, opened the pleadings; He stated the nature tvf the indict- iiH'iit, ami the several counts it contained, the Whole of which charge;! the several defettdants Willi conspiring together to obtain by fraud and perjury, a verdict against Air-. Wardle, at a trial in that Court, in an action brought by one of the present defendants, Francis Wright/against Mr Wardle,. which they so obtained, by which he is compelled to pay a large sum of m^-ncv, he pleadings being thus technically stated t.o the Court, a-jd to the Jury; Mr. Alley rose and took a minute view of the wh-de of 'lie"evidence civen on the late trial of W right versus Wardle and -that every part of it, on the part of the plaintiff, was false or illusory. He adverted to the policy of insurance which Wright tnade on the goods ift-er they were fent to Westbounu'- place, by-which he argued, that Wright never cons ide red Nl i-, Wardle his ,1 e ¡Hor t j 1/ 01/1('1' ('aI1Sc induced him to make hini so. He dwelt upon the circumstances, in evidence, and particularly pa- negyrised Mr. Dodd, whom he affirmed to'have last, a place of 30001. a-year by his patriotism. He lamented that there should have been paid to Mrs. Clarke, for the suppression of her profligate Mrs. Clarke, for the suppression of her profligate hook, by a Noble Lord (he was understood to mention Lord Chichester) no less a sum than 10,0001. when the transcendant genius of Milton could obtain no more for his god-like work than 15. £ !—Thus profligacy stalks in open day ¡ whilst uterit starves \II a arret.-ne concluded his address with the well-known words of bard Nelsofi England expects every man will do his duty." Several witnesses were then caned, alnon" whom was Mr. VVardle, who staled that he firt saw Mrs, Clarke 9th Nov; 1808. and that his object was to obtain information fruni her with regard to ihe Duke of York's conduct; hnt lie denied ever making any engagement fo jt;iy f'jr her furniture. Mr. Wardle was then cross-ex- amined by the Attorney-General, and the copy of a letter from Mrs. Clarke to Col. W-- was read, and (he substance of it was to this effect. 11 You seetiied iiii-williiilr to admit that those promises which you made me were given in any other way, but conditionally; namely, in be event of the Duke of Kent's succeeding to the office of Commander in Chief. This I denv, 1 now find you Ittva made promises which yon are not able <o perform. I will here pot you in mind or ODe or more of these promises, which, if you value yourself as a matt of honour, yon must perform. I "ill lay down my plan, to give n t at the end of two years, the sum of 10,000 an nnfil that is paid, .to make me an allowance of ^500 a year." The letter then goes on •» ^y- that these promises.wire ujade to lie; by Par*cil < Williams, after she had pledged herself to the | rum of the Duke of York that her son was to he taken under protection, a::d that Captain Thompson was to be provided for." The Attorney-General addressed the Jury at gieat length, and called on Mr. as witness 'I. who stated that Col. W- did not call hfta as a witness in the House of Commons, because t he was privy to the fact of Col. W fw- I nishing the house. After the examinations, which lasteci until past eleven o'clock at night, Mr. Alley entered into a very able reply, when his Lordship proceeded to sum up the evidence, and give his charge to the Jury, who, without, going out of Court, but con. sulting together for some minutes, returned a. verdict of NOT GUILTY, about twelve o'clock.
