Vale of Conway Flower Show Annual Exhibition at Llanbedr. THE sixth annual horticultural show was neld at Llanbedr, Talyoafn, on Saturday. Beautiful weather prevailed1, a refreshing breeze counter- acting the heat of the sun. The Llanbedr Society holds- its own, well, andl it is satisfactory to find the list of the exhibition patrons steadily increasing. His Worship the Mayor of Conway (Councillor James Porter), takes a, lively interest in the institution, and, as the president for the year, he was on t'he show ground1 early on Saturday, very actively support- ed by .the vice-president, Councillor Richard Jones, Bath., Llanbedr. The secretarial duties were energetically performed by .Mr William Jones. The judges were: Horticulture, W. A. Coates, The Gardens., Go-rddinog, Llanfairfecnan; sheep, Mr Cadwaladt Hughes, -Gl'asmo.r., Den- bigh; agriculture, .Mr G. O. Jones, 'M-erchllyn, Conway poultry and cats, Mr A. T. Johnson, Glan Conway butter arrdt eggs, Miss Plas Isa, Glan Conway; superintendent of fielii,, Mr WTm. Owen, Caerhun Estate Office. The Exhibits. Unfortunately, this .season has been anything but a favourable one, as far as the growth 0" fruit and! flowers, is concerned!, and, as a natural consequence., the quality and quantity of t'he exhibits generally bad materially deteriorated as compared with those of last year. There were, however, some exhibits in the apple and plum classes which would, compare very favourably with the be'st ever shown at Llanbedr, as re- gards size. The apples displayed by Mr Hugh Roberts, -of Llannerch, Llanfairfechan,—especi- ally the cooking variety—were of splendlid size, shape., and colour, while the, samples of plums shown by Mr Wm. Williams, oif Hednant, ialy- bont, were in excellent condition, though smaller in firth than those which secured record place for the Llannerch gardens). Mr Hugh Roberts was by far the most successful prize-winner of the day. No- less than twenty- five first and! second! prizes fell to' his lot in the fruit, vegetable, andlfloral: sections. Potatoes of the round and late variety were of excellent quality, size, and shape. Very fine samples of spring onions and cabbages were also. shown. The class .for red cabbages was perhaps the feature of the vegetable section, Mr John Roberts, of Pwllywaen, Talycafn, winning premier 'hono.urs with a remarkable exhibit. Mr Evan TDavies, of Castell, alls,c, shelved) a sin- gular specimen of white cabbage. Conway Valley is well known for its honey, and the competition. in, the honey classes t this show is usually very keen, but there were only four entries in the two classes1 this year. Cut flowers were net so good as formerly, but there were a few goodiexhibits of the pott id; variety. Chief amongst the latter were, the plants shown; by Mr James Fleming, Caerhun. Mrandl 'Mrs Fleming obtained 12 first prize cards in the floral department. In the agricultural section the feature was the collection, of wheat, barley, and oats shown by Mr Wm. Roberts, Llwynygwa-ew, Llambedr. The competition in the poultry classes was fair. The class for yearling rams was ihe most popular in the sheep section, Mr Elias Davies, Farm Yard, Conway, taking first prize in a class of 14 entries. THe animal which wen first place for Mr J. Evans, Pant- glas, Llanrwst, in the Welsh ram class, was another good type of its kind. Appended is a list of the prize-winners: — Horticulture. VEGETABLES. Broad beans: 1, Wm. Gold in England. News is to hand that gold has been found ui a plot of land in Durham. Th.s establishes another connection, between the coal, county and the far off land, Australia. A few years ago, a famous Australian chemist foundf-nat gold, but a far more valuable substance. He discovered the vegetable substance which forms the chief ingredient in the famous household remedy, Charles horde's bile heans. From that discovery, net only Durham people, but people all over the globe- have benefitted. Now Mrs Mary .Greener, of North-terrace, Water- house's Colliery, Durham, says that in find: ng these beans she has found something even be-tter than a golci .mine. To a "Durham Ad- vertiser" reporter, she said recently:—"I be- came so 'bad from liver disease that it was im- passible, for me to lie down, and so I had, often to. sit up all .night. I went to' Sherburn Hospi- tal for three months, but they could not cure me. I then consulted a doctor, but neither his advice nor his medicine did me the slightest good. I had constant pain in the back and side, could not eat, had terrible headaches, was sometimes; so fag.gedianddone up, and, had such awful pains in the stomach, that I scarce- ly cared what happened to me. My son begged me to try Chas. Forde's bile beans. At first I refu'S-edi, "thinking they were the same as other medicines. Then he read me a number of in- stances of the cures they have worked, and I determined to give them a trial. After a few doses I experienced distinct relief. I continued to take them regularly, taking tWQ: every night for eight weeks, aad the result -is I am- now in perfect health. I amnow so hearty that I can eat anything. They have made me feel as I used to feel in my younger d'ays, and I can recommend them to. all who suffer from liver complaint in any form." Bile 'beans, which did so much for Mrs Greener, are obtainable ,from all chemists at one and -three-half-pence, or two and nine per box, but you are warned against worthless, if not actually harmful siub- stitutes.
