Colwyn Bay v. Conway. VISITORS TAKE AWAY A COUPLE OF POINTS. These teams met for the first time in a North Wales Coast League fixture on the Conway Morfa on Saturday. Colwyn Bay were practi- cally at their full strenigth, and the homesters put on the best side available. The weather was unfavourable, a high wind prevailing, which materially affected the game and the comfort of the spectators". Moreover, the heavy rain of the previous night had had a bad effect upon the turf, especially in front of both nets. Mr Hersee, Llandudno, was the referee. The teams -were:-Colwyn Bay: Croydon, goal; Alien and Owen, backs; Griffiths, Downes, and E. O. Williams, halves; McCann, Reckless, Parry, Hume, and J. Williams, for- wards. Conway: Llew Parry, 'goal; Tom Jones and J. T. Parry, backs; Tom Edwards, Wilson, and Shern Jones, halves; E. O. Davies, Ben Evans, Ted Evans, O. Ellis, and J. R. Jones, for. wards.

The Game. With characteristic bad luck, Conway once more lost the toss, but for some reason or other the visitors elected to open against the wind. Within half a minute, of the time when the ball was set in motion, J. R. Jones tested Croydon with a couple of swift cross-shots. Allen brought relief for the Bay with a dead kick well outside. From the throw-out McCann got possession., and, with Parry's assistance, he worked the leather well up. Tom Jones barred further proigtress, and his kick immediately placed the visitors on the defence. Again, the Conway outside right essayed a shot, but the leather went behind. The line kick was taken up by Hume, and, with a capital run, he < changed the venue once more. Cool-headed Tom was again to the rescue, and danger was averted. Ten minutes' steady plodding in front of the visitors' goal, and the homesters scored, J. R. Jones beating Croydon with a hot cross- shot from about twenty yards away. Five minutes later, however, uonway were penalised for handling inside the eighteen, yards line. McCann took the kick, and equalised with a stinger, which gave little Llew not "a ghost of a chance." In due course, Conway renewed the attack, but shot after shot was wildly sent in, with the natural consequence that no suc- cess attended their efforts. Eventually Parry and; McCann gave one of tnose very rare ex- hibitions of the passing game seen during the afternoon. Between them, they cleverly beat a whole bunch of the home forwards and halves, and were it not for the invulnerable Tom they would undoubtedly have doubled the score. Shortly afterwards Hume was warmly hooted for kicking Wilson; it was certainly a' sus- picious action in view of the fact that the leather was nowhere near the Conway man. However, the referee did not appear to have- observed the incident, and the game proceeded. The home side attacked again with a vigour which de- served better results. Time after time the Bay goal appeared at their mercy, but Croydon, Allen, and "Williams were never found wanting. Hume, eventually, effected a clearance with a pitetty run, and Wilson just managed to screw the visitor's kick clear of the net. A sharp rally on the part of the, visitors- was seen at this juncture, and Llew cleared twice. Then McCann secured, and centred1 beautifully to Parry, who, with an open goal before him, could hardly help doing the, needful. From our point of vantage, however, it seemed as though Parry was offside yards at thta time. McCann a minute later delivered himself of a fine attempt which just skimmed the bar on the wrong side, while Parry tried another, which was beauti- fully saMsd by the little keeper. Shortly after- wards half-time was- called, and the score stood — Colwyn Bay, 2 gloals; Conway, I. During the first fifteen, minutes of the second half Conway-now playing against the heavy wind'—held thetir own pluckily. They exhi- bited more "devil" in their operations than we have seen on their part in the latter moiety this season. Wilson, though palpably in thta wrong place, played .a. sterling game at, centre-half. He served his front string assiduously, and more than once saved hiisi side when placed in- sore dilemmas. Indeed, he and Tom Jones, with Shem Jones, were mainly responsible for the outlook of things after the first quarter of an hour of the second half had been played. Hume J and Mi inn led this way for the visitors'' at- tack, both men putting in warm shots. Tom sa\ e 1 r and little Llew manipulated the other • in a which won the heartiest plaudits of the F.r « After a short-lived visit to the T. on the initiative of Ben Evans, the -> expe, rienCled a very anxious period. 1 < v. r 1 to concede two corners in quick j s but both flag-kicks were cleared effect by Llew. However, a stiff pressure was r.L lOp, and, after a courageous defence, the 1 > t p croal was again beatfen. It came from a shot 1 Reckless-a comparatively soft thing, w>1 Tom Jones in an unaccountable m iTJ]i t Ted Edwards soon afterwards set the Conway left wing going. A pristty dribble by Tom Edwards gave Conway a chance. J. R. attempted to do the needful, and the wi niger ex- perienced the worst possible luck in missing the ntat by inches. From the kick-out, McCann took in charge, and in a twinkle Llew found h's fist in contact with a teaser. This was smartly followed up by Griffiths with another, which was equally well-managed by the defending keeper. Thence, until the call of time, the visitors had things much the'ir own way. but thanks to the excellent defence of Tom Jones and Llew Parry only once the net was found. Final scorta: — Colwyn Bay, 4 goals; Conway, 1.' Co)

Colwyn Bay v. Llanrwst. THIS match was played at Colwyn Bay on New Year's Day.. The weather was fine, but the playing pitch was in a soft condition. Great interest has always been shown in the meeting of these clubs, and once again a large crowd lirtd the ropes, much to the pleasure of the home committee, who do not as a rule get a very large attendance. When Llanrwst took the field it was seen that they were strongly represented, and meant to give a good aoco int of themselves. Colwyn Bay werte- minus "he services of A. Downes and R. Jones, the former having received an injury early in the Week, and the latter's place being taken by W. tlulme The teams lined up-as follows:- Colwyn Bay: Goal, C. Croydon; backs, J Owen and E. AlBsn; halves, N. Griffiths, o Quinton, and O. E. Williams; forwards, T. McCann (captain), E. Reckless, E. Parry, W. Hulme, and W. Jones. Llanrwst: Goal, Thomas; backs, J. R. Jones, and. W. Trevor; halves, J. Jones, Morgan, and Di Thomas; forwards, W. Owen, J. Jones, R. Roberts, Whittaker (captain), and E .Parry. Refel1, Mr R. Hersee, Llandudno. A start was madls about twelve minutes after the advertised time. There was nothing to chose between the teams at the. commencement, play being; chiefly in midfield. Colwyn Bay then attacked, E. Parry just missing the mark by inches. He followed this up with another good attempt, Trevor clearing. The game now became fast and exciting, and amidst the shouts of their supporters the players made strenuous efforts to score. T. McCann gave Thomas a handful, which he cleared in masterly style. Hulme and W. Jones got away, but a good at- tempt was frustrated by the ball going out.. A foul against G. Quinton was not taken ad- vantage of by the "Roosters," and the Bay soon returned to Thomas, that player being called upon to save from E. Parry. The pressure was relieved by W. Trevor kicking over the line. Llanrwst now secured possession, but E. Allen sent them to the rightabout, only, however, to see them return immediately, Croydon havingi to run out to clear. A corner to the "Roosters," off G. Quinton, was put behind. W. Owen then ran down, but was too closely watched, his attempt going wide. E. Parry, for the "Roost. ers," was given a good opportunity, which he did not utilise. W. Owen, a'gain taking up the attack, put across, but E. Parry headed over. Then the Bay became aggressive. Thomas cleared from E. Parry, and this was followed by a good pass from W. Jones, which T. McCann tried hard to meet, but failed. Another visit by Llanrwst ended in Croydon saving splendidly from E. Parry, and E. Allen, with a huge kick, gave his forwards possession, E. Reckless 'end- ing the attack with a good shot, which Thomas cleared. End-to-end play followed, and from One of these visits Thomas had to clear from E. Parry and E. Reckless. A cornier to the Bav was put behind. Llanrwst then got down, but E. Allen cleared. A pretty pass by Hulme was not taken advantage of, the ball going over the line. From this throw-in E. Reckless re- ceived, and placed the ball in the goalmouth, T. McCann making a good but unsuccessful at- tempt to net it. After a fruitless attack by Llan- rwst, the Bay again hovered around Thomas. W. Hulme placed nicely to W. Jones, that player centreing- well, and T. McCann landed the ball safely past Thomas, amidst great cheering, This made both elevens liven up, and a great fight commenced for supremacy. After a well- combined run, N. Griffiths put over, and then Thomas' had to clear from McCann, W. Jones, and N. Griffiths. Croydon was, next called upon to save, and the return going to E. Parry, he made a capital shot, his attempt only missing by inches. A foul against Llanrwst let in thla Bay. Hulme and Parry both shot, but nothing1 resulted. Reckless then placed well, but T. McCann was offside. Following this, E. Parry placed in the net, but he also was rultad offside. Half-time arrived with the s,core:- Colwny Bay, i goal; Llanrwst, o. Parry restarted for the Bay, and Llanrwst at once attacked, but the ball was put behind. From a good cjsntre by O. E. Williams, Colwyn Bay were granted a corner, which was put out of play. Another corner to the homesters saw them in close proximity to Thomas, that player having to save twice in succession, thta ball the second time, being put over the bar, another corner having thus to be conceded to the Bay. Nothing, however, resumed. There was no mistaking the determination of the Bayites at this stage of the game. They sent shots from all directions into Thomas, who saved in mas- terly style. O. E. Williams, for Oolwyn Bay, made some splendid attempts,, as also did G. Quinton. A run-up by Llanrwst ended in W. Owen shooting badly. A few minutes later, from a nice pass by E. Parry, W. Owen scored the equalising goal with a raspCr, which gave Croydon no chance. This roused the Bay, who 1 pressed, thouigh bad shooting spoiled them of several splendid opportunities. Llanrwst broke away, but W. Owen was offsiols. Not to be 1 denied, they came again, and E. Parry placed j them ahead with a splendid shot, which Croy- don made a good attempt to save. Ihis suc- cess seemed to galvanize the Bayites into, some- thing of the form that was expected of them, and they penned the "Roosters" within their quarters. Shots wbre sent in to Thomas but his defence was impregnable, and well it was for Llanrwst that he was between the sticks, for otherwise they would not havls escaped defeat. His saves were really marvellous. No more scoring took place u to full time, and much to the chagrin of the Bay and dlslight of 1 the Llanrwst supporters the visitors ran out winners, the final scores reading: — Llanrwst, 2; Colwyn Bay, 1.

Football Chips. What People Say. That two visiting teams in this League tour- ney, viz., Bangor and Colwyn Bay, took a brace of points home with them from renmaenmawr and Conway. J That the two latter teams should "buck up," I' and give us a little sensation by way of a good win. That Bangor's actual score in the Cathedral city 3Jgainst this Penmaenmawrites was repeated on Saturday, viz., a defeat of 4-2. That no one begrudges Bangor the win, for they were thta better team. That John Roberts, Goat-terrace, is a great admirer of the, igiame in Penmaenmawr, and one of the mainstays of the club. That it was a surprise to find the Roosters crowing and flapping their wings over the de- feat of Colwyn Bay on New Year's Day. That it was a good "Clenyg" for the Vale- ites. That their display was pleasing, and had a bit of class about it, too. That Thomas in goal for them repealed his versatility as a "between the sticks" artiste. That the inclusion of Mr Cecil Morgan, the Rector of Llanrwst's, son, in the half-back line, Is a splendid move. That he shone splendidly in his display. That Ben Hayes was the custodian there for the visitors. That the result was a credit to the Roosters, though a win would have gladdened the heart of some other teams. That the Portmen will be, bound to get a downfall ere the end of the season. That Llanberis are showing themselves to be a vastly-improved team to what they were last season. That they can boast of fivte wins already. That they had not a single one at the close of last spring. That Llandudno Amateurs, havis been having some distinctly hard lines in their recent maJtches That their position in the League is not worthy of their class; so play up-, ye boys. That Bangor Combination team have a knack of snatchinfg a. possibility out of the fire! That they divided honours with the hitherto consistent Wrexham team on Saturday last. That Rhyl Combination team, likewise are on the up grade by making a draw with Chester. That poor Conway have not yet won a home match in the League. That the only one to their credit is, the dtafeat of Penmaenmawr at home. That Colwyn Bay are, by their defeat of the harbour lads, up-to-date champions. That the cup-tie on Saturday at Llandudno btween the Amateurs and Colwyn Bay is bound -weather and wind permitting—to be a rollick- ing good game. That club ser-retaries, should eend the results .pf their matches in early on Monday morning.
