Owing to the unfavourable condition cf the weather last week, it was decided to hold another outing next Wednesday to Pontrlivdy- groes, this being the last half holiday of the season. The Season.—The number of visitors is gradually increasing and during this week there have been large day excursions. On Thursday there were trips from Machynlleth and Builth Wells, at least 450 people coming from the latter place. It is generally ex- pected that with a continuance of fine weather the season will turn out successfully. The entertainments are numerous and good. Mr. Rowe's band and the minstrel troupe of fr. Gilbert Rogers, who perform on the Promen- ade and the Castle Grounds being greatly ap- preciated. Splendid entertainments are also provided at the Pavilion where Mr. Charles Parker's Company is engaged this week. The Pavilion.—This week Mr Charles Parker's Excelsior Opera Company provide ex- cellent entertainments at the Pavilion. The company include Miss Annie Hall. Miss Edith Richardson, Mr; G. Harker Holt, and Mr. Fred Walmsley. Besides a number of mostly sentimental solos, the programme consists of a well selected repertoire. The musical direc- tor is Mr. Ernest Lord. Mr. Walmsley con- tributes several musical sketches which greatly amuse the audiences. The stars of the en- tertainment, however, are Miss Hall and Miss Richardson, who possess good voices and can sing most artistically. The Pier Band. con- ducted by Mr. Rowe, give selections of music every afternoon. Obituary.—The death took place on Satur- day morning last of Mr David Lewis, of Tolima House, Portland-street-, who had been suffer- ing for the past five weeks from empylma and was attended at the Infirmary. He under- went an operation on the previous Saturday, but remained in a critical condition through- out. He was eighteen years of age and en- gaged as a carpenter. His death has removed a promising young man from the town and much sympathy was felt with his relatives. As a regular attendant at Baker-street Con- gregational Chapel, he was well-known and had a large number of friends. He also be- longed to the Pembroke Yeomanry. Last year he met with an accident while in camp with them and. although he intended going to this year's camp, he became ill about a week earlier. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon at Salem. Penrhyncoch, the Rev. Job Miles officiating. A number of Yeomanry troopers attended the funeral out of respect to their late comrade. Wreaths were received from Mr. and Mrs Lewis (uncle and aunt), and Miss Lewis, Mr and Mrs Patten, Lynford House; Mr and Mrs J. J. Nelson, Epworth-terrace; Jennie Jones, Hughes, and Claudia Edwards, Mr. J. Edwards, Llanbadarn; Mary; Miss Ellis, Llanbadarn; Maggie; local mem- bers Pembroke Yeomanry D Oliver, D White, and J. Jarman; Sunday School Class Baker- street Chapel: Mabel Griffiths, S. A. V. 11■ >, and Maggie Doughton. The Cemetery-.—Another week has passed. Another meeting of the Council has been held, and no decision has been reached about the Cemetery. The subject has not even been mentioned. The Council does not care how the place appears. The trees are still used as popping places for planks and all the rest of the conditions are the same. The only sure thing is that in a short time there will be an- other hay stack in the Cemetery. The people do not move, but they feel.. Absentee.—At the Police Station on Tues- day before Richard Morgan and Edward' Evans, Esqrs., Pttiillip Thomas, Fetrndale, Glam., was charged by Capt. Defendant had no statement to make nor any questions to ask. —He was fined 40s., in default fourteen days. Obituary.—The jleath took place on Wed- nesday night of Mrs. Ann James, wife of Mr. Richard James, The Depot" Bridge-jsrtreet. She was seventy-three years of age and a native of Penparke, being a sister of the late Mr. Daniel Jones, bookbinder, who was one af the first to carry on the business in Aber- ystwyth. In her younger days she was prom- inently connected with singing in the district at the time of Pencerdd Ceredigion." Mr. James is also a well-known musician and is the choirmaster at Holy Trinity Church, but of late has not been in good health. NOTES FROM ABERAYRON
NOTES FROM ABERAYRON The second invention, under the auspices °l I*0 Calvinistic Methodist Monthly Meeting of South Cardiganshire will be held at Aber- ayron on Thursday and Friday in next week. It is expected that nearly 100 delegates will attend. There is no business but that which is spiritual in purpose. The object is to engender a loftier ideal of what Christian life should be in essence and in practice. The Rev. J. M. Saunders, M.A., and Mrs Saun- ders. of Swansea, and the Rev. W. M. Lewis of Carmarthen. are expectfd to attend. The attractive book of Cerngoch's poems etc, is to hand and will be reviewed next week! The annual Cymanfa Pwngc of the Congre- gationalisms of Aberayron and District, was held at Peniel Chapel, on Thursday June 16th There was a large attendance. The meetings were remarkable for vivacity and an accession of general interest and force. There seems to be a good time coming" for these Cyman- faroedd. The choral singing was of a high order. In the evening the Revs. Dalis Davies and Evan Evans, Lampeter, preached to a large congregation. Many of the townspeople remember the late Rev. Prebendary Rhys Lloyd as one who al- ways rode in to town on horseback when he attended Quarter Sessions, and he always at- tended. He was a fine specimen of the old aristocratic type of clergy who rode to hounds He spoke in Nonconformist Chapels and prayed at unoonsecrated gravesides. He was a gentleman too and that will always count. Not only did he belong to an old county family, but he did the gentle deed. Most of the clergy of the rural deanery of Aeron were brought up in Calvinistic Methodist Seiadau. Judging by their practice they make a virtue of never entering a Xcriconfor- mist Chapel. It is not because they have conscientious scruples against doing so but because they want the flexibility which' is a product of larger training. y 18 The presentation of a. testimonial to vear* «!Prvf° maT^s the end of twenty-seven JeonLS as elementary teacher.
