DEATH 1 OF THE H PRINCESS AUGUSTA. I The Princess Augusta expired at seventeen minutes past nine o'Clock last night, at Clarence | House, St. James's, after a long and very trying illness, which her Royal Highness bore with the utmost patience and meekness. i Throughout the progress of her painful malady, her Royal Highness exhibited the greatest resig- nation, fulfilling, in the intervals of freedom from ■ suffering, her religious ond devotional duties. With I B the exception of a few hours previous to her decease, | ■ the Princess retained her conciousness to the last, 1 I or at least, was easily roused to a state of con- ■ sciousness, and during this painful trial, her Royal | ■ Highness constantly maintained that amiability of 11 y y H temper which always characterised her. fl Hj The last moments of the Princess were attended B Hby all the Royal Family in town, viz., the Queen | H Dowager, the Duchess of Gloucester, the Princess ■ Sophia, the Duke of Sussex, and the Duke of ■ Cambridge; and also by her Royal Highnesses H medical attendants, Sir Henry Halford and Mr. H Moore, together with the Rev. J. R. Wood, Chap- H lain to her Majesty the Queen Dowager. I H All the Royal Family, had been in anxious at- H tendance on their relation from an early hour yes- Kj terday morning, remaining to the last by the bed- ■ side of her Royal Highness. jj D Immediately after the malancholy event, the Kg Duke of Sussex despatched one of his Equerries I Col. Sir A. Macdonald, to Windsor Castle, to 8 convey the melancholy tidings to her Majesty. H Information was also forwarded to the Princess B ■ Sophia Matilda at Broadstairs. I H Her Majesty the Queen Dowager, and the other ■ members of the Royal Family, took their depar- ture from Clarence House at half-past ten o'clock.

The Electric Telegraph.—This apparatus was cal- led into action last week on the Great Western Rail- way, in consequence of an Irish gentleman having left at one of the stations, fifty or sixty miles from London, his great coat, containing a very valuable snuffbox. On arriving in London, he made known his case. The telegraph was set to work; and, in three hours, he was put in possession of his coat. On receiving it he exclaimed—" By the powers, I may tell this story in Cork, but who will believe it ? It is stated that Mr. Brunei has wagered £ 1000, that, on the completion of the Great Western Rail- that, on the completion of the Great Western Rail- way, he will go from Bristol to London, upwards of 120 miles, in two hours !-Era. We understand that Officers have been despatched to the various Railway Stations, at which so many accidents have of late occurred, to institute inquiries into the cause of those accidents, and to report there-on.
