Note the Address- 29, TAFF STREET, PONTYPRIDD. LOCAL GOVERNMENT ACT, 188S. County Council Election TO THE VOTERS IN THE ELECIOKAL DIVISION OF THE Graig & Treforest Wards. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, In January next you will be called upon for the first time to elect one Member to represent you upon the Glamorgan County Council. In compliance with the wishes of a considerable number of influential ratepayers in this distriot, I have consented to beoome a candidate for your suffrages. The duties devolving on the County Council will necessarily be very great and responsible, as the greater part of the non-judicial business hitherto transacted by the Magistrates at Quarter Sessions. with other important matters, will henceforth be edaiiuistared under the provisions of the Local Government Act. I am deeply convinced that the utmost care and discretion should be exercised by you in the etioioe of a fit representative, who should be characterized by sound judgment, be practically acquainted with public matters gen?rally, and be willing and able to devote a great deal of time to look after your interests. Through having been entrusted with the honour of representing you on the Local Board for nearly fifteen years, and also on the Llantwit Fardre School Board for a similar period, as well as being an Overseer for the Parish of Llancwit Fardre for seven years, and for several years as a Member of the Board of Guardians, I have gained aa intimate acquaintance with local administrative business. As most of ycu are aware, I have lived in the town nearly all my lifetime. I am a heivy rate- payer, and have always been of opinion that matters involving the outlay of a large expenditure of publio money should not be undertaken until the views of the ratepayers could be ascertained, and I shall firmly puraue this polioy if elected as a Councillor. The movement to looate the future sit;ings of the Council and Quarter Sessions at Pontypridd has my hearty approval, and I assure you no effort will be apared on my part to secure what would undoubtedly add greatly to the importance of the town, and prove a. boon to the inhabitants of thia populously surrounded district. The trust, again and again renewed, which you have placed in me in tba past, encourages me to hope that I shall be further considered worthy to repres nt you in a more responsible sphere should you favour me with your confidence, you may reat assured I would discharge the onerous duties entrusted to me fearlessly, diligently, and to the test of my ability, having due regard to the interests of all classes irrespective of politics. and especially would it be my constant aim. to promote and protect the welfare and prosperity of my own district whenever ana wherever called I am, Ladies and Gentlemeu, Your obedient Servant, DAVID LEYSHON.
