John Davies, Nantyribo, Pe-mbrokeshirt leomanry and Hampshire Rkgiment. ser cd three years in Salnoika. The Rcr Archdeacon Williams, in the course of an address, said he was very pleased to show his appreciation of the re- turned soldiers, as men who had seen some- thing, done something, borne something. Oapt. J. 11. Williams said he fully appreciated the services these men had^endered. He was sure tliry had done ail that was asked ot them; not only the recipient of the M.M., but his companions also. Mr T. L. Harries also expressed his .admiration for them. Sergt. W. 0. Stephens, D.C..M., could also not re- frain from extending t ) them his welcome. Councillor John Stephens was also pleased to he present and to congratulate' the men on their safe return from the various fields of batte. Councillor Hy. WT. Jones during the COUKS of his euilagistae remarks was*reminis- cent of the old Lkndtfo Volunteer Coy. and referring to Gunner Thomas's paternal grand fa ther, Mr W. -Thomas, as one of the smartest and keenest ol the Company, and one of its best shots. To this statement ample evidence cairno from Col. S rgt. G. W. Jenkins, who had served with him in the same <^onipa*y. He complimented the Ffrairfa-ch district on the number of men from that locality who had served in the colours and expressed the pleasure it gave him to attend thote ptewt" ,ings and to show his Appreciation and admira- tion of those men, who had gone through so much on their bealf. Capt. W. L. Roberts said it was 1m appy moment for him to hava the pleasure of decorating Gunner Inioniis with the M.M. He had known him from his childhood. It was not his (Capt. Roberts) fault that he tco had not served abroad. He had made an application to be allowed to do so, but owing to the age clause his offer could not be accepted. He expressed the hope that on their return all the soldiers would become members of the Sa.kliers and Sailors' Union, o £ which they had a branch at Llandilo, and which might some day or oiher be able to assist any member, should they be in need of it. Union was everything in iliose days. He congratulated all the recipient's and expressed the hope that they would have a prosperous future. He then pinned the medal' on Gunner Thomas's breast, amid much enthu- siasm, On behalf of the town. Archdeacon Williams then handed Gunned Thomas a silver cup, suitably engraved, as a reminder of his having been awarded the M.M. The Archdeacon in his usual felicitous style, said it was a very great pleasure to him to handl such a gallant soldier suich a, beoutiful cup. Referring to the remarks made by Councillor Jones ad CoL-Sergt. G. W. Jenkins concern- ing the grandfather, he said they illustrated. the truth of the oid Welsh prvoerb, Hysbys y dengvs y "dyn 0 ba radd y bo'i wrieddyn." He then presented the cup cup amidst a great deal of applause. Gunner Thomas returned1 thanks for such a handsome present and was thankful he had been spared to return home, he having lost a dear brother in the war. The Chairman expressed sympathy with Gunner Thomas's family on behalf of the .town. The rendering of the National Anthem brought to a close another of the many pleasant meetings that ave been held since the fund was formed.
