It has long been known that Tea fully re- liable for strength & real cheapness, can only be secured by the Chinese entirely discontinu- ing the use ofnilizei-alpowdet, to 1 or .face over the leaf; for this very unfair practice has long been a heavy tax on the English consumer, as the Chinese do it to enable them to easily pass off brown worthless leaves at high rates. To insure really fine and cheap Tea, Horniman's imports are all free from mineral powder, the Green is a dull olive hue, the Black is not in- tensely dark. Sold always in packets. -----------------A CASE OF…
A CASE OF SUSPECTED MURDER AT NEW BRIDGE. On Saturday week the body of a man, named Francis Garrett, was found in the Canal, at Newbridge. There were several rumours that his death had been occasioned by foul play, and the inquest was adjourned to enable thf1 police to investigate the matter. At the final inquest on Tuesday last, it was satisfactorily proved that there was no foundation for the current reports, and the jury returned a verdict of "Found in the Canal."
, THE IlWX, COAL, AND GENERAL…
THE IlWX, COAL, AND GENERAL TRADES OF SOUTH WALES. [From. the Bristol Daily n'si.] The somewhat improved feeling in business in the Welsh iron trade is so far maintained, aud makers are beginning to express greater' confidence in the future. Prices, it is evident, have seen their lowest point; and the turn which has taken place in the market is likely to lead to a gradual reaction for the better. There is no material accession of orders to note since last week's re- port, with the exception of a contract for 5000 tons of rails for New South Wales, which has been secured by a Monmouthshire house (the Ebbw Yale Company), and other engagements are expected to follow. Short time has not ceased to be the rule at the majority of works, and will undoubtedly continue until orders are more freely forthcoming. The movement for the better which had commenced to set in has been rather checked by the failures of the last few days, hut as none of the suspensions are believed to affect this district it is an- ticipated the check will prove only a temporary one. At the luca: ports several vessels aie taking in cargoes c on American account, and the predicted serious falling off in the demand from the States as the result of the abandonment of the Tariff Bill, has not been as yet c experienced; and, in fact, indications point to, a con- tinuance of the present exports. 'From Continental houses additional inquiries are received, and business in all probability will follow. Following the United States and Iudia, Russia is the best customer of South Wales, railway iron to a considerable extent being shipped to that country. In the homo trade there is nothing ap- proaching animation evinced, although the rail branch is not quite so dull as it was. The railway companies are all economising, and their purchases of iron have not increased. With a restoration of confidence in monetary circles, of which there js strong hope, this state of things will be soon altered. Pig iron commands a readier sale, and should the make he kept down to a reasonable point, remunerative priccs will before long be obtained. el Tin plates are in slow request, and prices are not so well supported as they Were. The lull in the demand is ascribed to various causes, such as a falling off in American orders, India taking a less quantity, and home requirements smaller owing to the depression in other branches of industry. Buyers do not look with favour upon plates made under the recent patent process in. troduced, but experienced makers assert that the pre- judice against them must ultimately give way. Business cannot be said to be in a satisfactory state in either branch of the coal trade. The capabilities of the steam collieries are far in excess of the requirements of buyers, and at many pits about half time is the rule and not the exception. In the inland consumption there is no charge to note. The Great Western carried last month 40,214 tons to the metropolitan markets, of which fully four-fifths were from South Wales. This is the largest return for several months past. In the house coal trade quietness prevails, but tonnage is not so scarce as a few weeks ago. The Darby blast eag-iueat Ebbw Vale has again been stopped,in consequence of a fault being discovered in the shaft of the fly-wheel; and it will take several months to carry out the necessary repair*. The furnaces are now dependent on the two old blast engines, and the breakage will cause a decrease in the make of iron. A notification has been issued, signed by Mr Harri- son, secretary of the Monmouthshire Railway Company, stating that the proposed imposition of Id. per ton extra tonnage on certain dock traffic at Newport is withdrawn. This decision is no doubt mainly attributable to the de- termined opposition of the freighters to any increase in the tonnage.

0 AHEIUMAF. The dirccto.-s of Powell's Duffryn Coal Company, Limited, have determined on either selling or letting the Aberaman Tronworks, so long and so successfully carried on by Mr Crawshay Baily, M.P. The present owners are prepared to enter into a liberal arrangement for the supply of coal from the adjoining property to the works. It is hoped that some enterprising capitalist will embrace the offer, as considerable distress has pre- vailed at Aberaraan since the partial stoppage of the establishment.
