The numberless instances daily occurring, wherein affections of the lunsrs, putting on all the outer appearances of consumption, which, however. when traced to their source, are found to result from certain baneful habits, fully proves that the principle of the division of labour is nowhere more applicable than in medical practice. We feel no hesitation in saving, that there is no member of society by whom the book will not be found useful whether such person hold the relation of a Parent, a Preceptor' or a Clergyman. Sun Messrs. The moral and medical precepts given in it, render it invaluable." Magnet. The perusal of Mesrs. Curtis's book, entitled MA\HOOD has really astonished us by developing a series of maladies, the ncvcr-faitins; consequence of the virions habit of which it treats. The clear connection pointed out between the assigned cause and the effects is perceptible to every capacity."—Age. This is a work that we fear there exists too much need for, to ranse us to hesitate to recommend it for general perusal. Everv branch of those frightful maladies, whether the result of immoral habits or secret vices, is here succintly treated, and divested of all medical technicality, plain and pasy directions arc given for the best mode to be pursued in all cases, however complicated or apparently hopeless. AT present the popular opinion is, that the natural duration of life is 70 Years, but this is contrary to both sacred and profane history. This opinion is, no doubt, founded on a misunderstanding of a patsage of the 90".h Psalm, where it is indeed stated, That the days of our years are threescore years and ten, and if, by reason of strength, they be fourscore years. yet is their strength labour and sorrow." Now. it must be remembered, that this Psalm is ascribed to Moses, and that he is not speaking of the lives of men in general, but of what was occurring among the Israelites in the wilderness. They died not a natural death, but were cut off for their sin and unbelief, by judicial dispensations. The clever Dr. Farre maintains, that 120 is the last grant of God to man, and quotes the 6th chapter of Genesis, and the third verse, where it is written, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he alco is flesh yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years." Now, wc find this expressed ititeiitioxi on tl)e part of God gradually carried iito efT,-ct-the principle of vitality appearing to become weaker until the close of the era in which the postdiluvian patriarchs flourished; when, although several centuries had elapsed since the deluge, we find that 120 years vras about the average of human existence. Supposing, then, that the theory of long life is %veil sustained. the question naturally is suggested how are we to attain what is so desirable? A wise general, on the eve of battle, makes a proper disposition of his forces beforehand, and does not wzit till the enemy has made an attack, and thus, by forethought and due preparation, reasonably expects a victory; thus he who has a desire to attain a healthy, and consequently, happy old age, does not indolently wait for the attack of the enemv, which is sickness, but is constantly on his guard against his insidious approaches, by paying proper attention to the state of his health. Many would fain occasionally use medicine to assist nature in her operatioiis but, like a mariner at sea without his compass, knowing not where to steer, they first try this, and then that. and meet with nothing but disappointment to those, how welcome must be the important fact, that P A It n'S MEDICINE is all that is required, the fine tonic properties it contains invari- ably restores the stomach to a hfalhy longing for food or, in other words it produces a good appetite, so much envied, but so seldom enjoyed by the invalid the gentle stimulating powers it possesses, aesists the stomach to properly digest the food it receives; the balsamic powers it bestows ou the system, produces that delightful feeling of good spirits so very desiratde, and disposes both mind and body to healthy exercise everything under its influence soon wears a joyous aspect, and the varied duties of life are performed with pleasure. It, in addition contains a fine sedative quality and. instead of long and wearv nights, gives sound and refreshing sleep. If the stomach and bowels require it, it acts as the mildest and most agreeable pur- gative, and by its clearsing powers, totally eiaciicates a redun- dancy of bile, and completely removes all obsrructions of the intestinal canal. To have produced a medicine so benign and mild in its operation and effects, and yet so effectual in searching out and curing disease of however long standing, exhibits, on the pait of Old Parr, deep research and a thorough knowledge of his zui subject. Those who have been the instruments of restoring this long-lost secret to the world, feel confident when they make the a,se.-iioii-that none need despair, that if only a hit tiial be given, the result will be a restoration to health and happinessi Thus shall their humble labours merit praise, And future Parrs be blessed with honoured days Extract from the Third Series of Cures effected by this extraordinary medicine. EXTR\OUDlN,\UY CURE OF RHEUMATISM. The foliowing letter will be read wMi interest, as it contains a statement of another recent cure of Chronic Rheumatism, solely fioii) the iise of the popular medicine, PARK'S LIFE PILLS. It will be seen that Mr. Hugh L«wis. of Morp irth Tow-vn, Meri- onethshire North Wales, has to enrol his name among the st of testimonials of cures by Parr's Life Pills. The letter relating the case is from his brother, 1r. Lewis Lewis, of the same place. Morpoeth l'owyn, Merionethshire. North Wnlcs, July 4, 18i3. 44 Gentlemen,—I have much pleasure in ssating to you the wonderful cure of my brother by your efficacious medicine, as it must be nearly as gratifying to yourselves to hearoi the immense good Parr's Life Pills are doing in Wales. My blOtLer had been many years Illic,ed with Rheumatism, which frequently confined him to his bed, and the last attark was severe; l,e could not move ill bed, and the pain was most excrutlating; and, although lie had been under tlie care of one of the best medical gentlemen in the county, and had administered to him various applications, both external and internal, wi'hout affording him any benefit. (Jacket, he is PERFECTLY CtUiED. •• I am, gentlemen, yours gratefully, LEW IS LEWIS" In no one instance has this invaluable medicine failed, when duly persevered in. to afford relief. even in the oldest and most inveterate cases if any, from want of confidence or fickleness discontinue their use too early, and thus leave unaccomplished' "hat thev desired, aicthey to attribute the faultto the medicine 1 Certainly not but to llieir own love of change and wart of patience. Cclsus has justly remarked, that Diseases slow in their progress go off very slowly and that time is necessary to remove the deeply-rooted evils which time has occasioned." I his siiouid be borne in mind by all suffering fiom disease derply- tooted in the system, to impart pallence.and perseverance in the use of this medicine; and where the disorder seems obstinate, they may rest fully assured that time will effect a radical and perfect cuie.
