To Gentlemen in the Navy and Masiers of Merchant Ships, it is invaluable it quickjy restores softness and colour to Boots and Shoes, deprived of both by constant wetting with sea water; it prevents, the salt water from penetrating the leather, and thus keeps them always soft and dry. Itkcps well in anv climate, and may be carried in the pocket without soiling it. It is particularly recommended to Gentlemen in the Army they will find it the best Blacking ever ofiercd to their notice. Boot and Shoe Makers will also fiud it the best Black- ing they can use for polishing new Boots and Shoes, as it burnishes brilliantly. It is the cheapest Blacking ever sold; as a single penny packet, mixed with iiyater only, makes as much Blacking as is nsually sold in iars, at.Sixpence each, and will clean tvro dozen pairs of Shoes .I)rlend idly! Ihe following vestimonial will convince those who hare not tried, the article, of the high reputation in which it is held, pafWcularly in the West of England, where it is almost, the only Blacking used. TRADK IN THE NORTK. The reports from Lancashire and Yorkshire, from different places in the same line of business, are different, denoting in some places an ii^irorement, in others a decline in the same article. The account from Leeds is most descriptive.—"The trade is in a most curi- ous state. A steady advance in wools, without the tnanufactnrer beting able to realize the least ad- vance. The demand for goods was, howerer, fair, especially for balk goods. THE UNCHANGEABLE.—A female, named Ro- salie Anciaux, the daughter of a Catholic father and a Protestant mother, bot who had herself been cdu. cuted in the Catholic faith, lately died at Cuirieux, in the Aisne. In cousequeace of her having neg. lected to perfortnvthe rite of confession previously to her decease, the prayers of the Catholic church were deuied to her, and her remains were accom- panied to the cemetery only by a Protestant clergy, man, who bad been summoned by her mother. The Catholic rector of the parish loudly demanded the exhumation of the corpse, on the ground that the cemetery was polluted by a heretic. The Mayor, however, refused to sanction the demand, aud the commune was put under interdict; as it were, by the clergy of the parish, who aHowed the festival of All Saint's Day to pass without the celebration of divine service, and actuaHy refused to attend the funerals of ten perbons, who were buried during the interval between the 20th of October and the 15th of Novem- ber. The rector himself died soon afterwards. His obsequies were formally celebrated by several eccle- siastics of the canton, who, however, followed his remains no further than to the entrance of the cemetery, leaving the mayor and the garde-cham- ara petre to accompany the pastor to his laai home. These successive acts of iutoleranoe have excited just and universal indignation iu the comnmae. GaVgnanVs Messenger,
