PRESTATYN. THE DRAINAGE Worics.-At a meeting of the St. Asaph Rural Sanitary Authority yesterday, a letter was read from Mr W. H. Pickin, the con- tractor for the new drainage works, stating that unless the Board could give him more money than they had agreed to he would be unable to go on with the work.—It was decided to give the con- tractor five days' notice of the intention of the Board to take the work out of his hands, according to contract, and to hold him liable for any loss, on the ground that he was not proceeding with the work with satisfactory despatch.

A DAY AT 'Appy "AMFSTEAD" is thoroughly enjoyed by the EaRt End poor as is amply proved by the immense crowds who flock there every Bank Holiday. The pure air and bracing atmosphere to be found in the breezy heights of Highgate and its neighbourhood cannot fail to benefit those who can only spend a few hours in their midst. Holidays, however, cannot be fully enjoyed by those persons who are suffering from disease. Holloway's Pills and Ointment can speedily remove this drawback to pleasure if a fair trial is only afforded them. As a cure for rhenmati m, pout, fevars, diarrhoea, diseases of tbeiskin, scroluls, ulcers sores, burns, or old wounds, they are beyond com- petition.

It was reported that on Sunday, the 3rd inst., there was no service in the house in the morning, in consequence of the absence of a Nonconformist minister.—A letter was read from Mr W Parry, Rhyl, stating that for the Rhyl district he had all the Sundays for the first three months in the year filled by capable ministers, and another one from Mr Edward Jones, Denbigh, expressing regret at previous failure, and explaining the circumstances. —Mr Jno. Williams asked who was responsible for the failure to send a minister on Sunday, the 3rd inst?—The master said the fault he believed lay with the Wesleyans at St. Asaph. He should be glad if they would try and impress upon the friends outside the desirability of letting them know at the house when they were unable to send a minister.

HOLYWELL. MR FREEMAN'S CHRISTMAS FAT STOCK SALE.- On Monday last, Mr Wm Freeman, the successful Holywell auctioneer, held his Christ- mas Fat Stock Sale at the King's Arms Hotel. The sheep and pig yard was capitally fitted up with pens, where the animals brought to the sale were conveniently placed. The extensive covered sheds in the hotel yard suited admirably for the housing of the stock, but the entries became so very numerous that extra arrange- ments had to be made for their accomodation. Over 11,000 worth of stock was sold, a fact which at once indicates the extent of the sale, The animals offered were of exceptionally good quality and were sent by breeders and feeders from various parts of the county. Mr Freeman's wide clientele and his prompt settlements having gained him extensive support, and won for him public confidence. We must also add that Mr A Redfern has exerted himself in making these sales, which will be continued monthly, a success. Among the stock sellers were Mr Evton, Plas Llanerchymor Mr II D Pochin, Nant and Gop; Mr A Redfern; Mr W H Bickerton, Maesmynnan; Mr John Owens, Plasuchaf; Captain James Mr Thos Griffiths; Mr Joseph Williams, Post Carreg &c. There was an extremely good show of beasts, including 35 head of well-fed Christmas cattle some of the latter It fetched 24 guineas a head. In-calf heifers sold well, top prices being the rule. The show of sheep of the Welsh class was excellent, the prices obtained ranging from 18s to 26s a head. Porket pigs fetched an averago of 44s each, and bacon pigs from L3 lis Od to JE3 13s Od. Among the principal buyers were Messrs A Redfern, Walter Owen, Jos Jones, Greenfield; R Jackson, Bagillt; R Bennet, Connah's Quay; J Benthon, Flint; R Jones, Newmarket; Williams, Ffynnongroew Robt Jones, Llanasa Joseph Williams, Post Carreg and W Evans, Gorsedd. OUR ATHLETIC NOTE BOOK. BY "HAWKSEYE." FOOTBALL. A meeting of the Swifts F.C., was held last evening at the Star Temperance Hotel, Mr S Robinson, presiding, to discuss the resignation of the Swifts from the Town Club, but the meeting was adjourned till this (Friday) evening, when all footballers are invited to attend. CYCLING. I have always been convinced that the mal. practices of the scorcher" were deemed as reprehensible by an ordinary devotee of the wheel as they are by the general travelling public. My views have received confirmation from the letter of a correspondent to a London newspaper, who claims to have cycled for several years, and ridden quite ten thousand miles without colliding with a single person. He wisely suggests that it should be made a punishable offence either to ride without any brake at all or with one which has not power to check speed at the moment; that the carrying of a loud-sounding gong or bell at all times should, be compulsory; and that each machine should carry a number sufficiently large to be read some distance away. If these sugges- tions are carried out, and more care is taken to check the rate at which some of the riders travel, the roads will be rendered considerably more safe than they are at present.

The difficulty of maintaining their voluntary schools at present was not a slight one, and they wanted to set an example there in St Asaph for the whole of the diocese, to show that they intended to maintain their schools with the greatest possible efficiency and they should be prepared to make some sacrifice in that good work (applause).—The bazaar was a great success amongst those present at the onp.nintr r -0 .V4&0 \ll.1 Bishop and Mrs Edwards and family Lady Williams. This was seconded by Mr Howes Roberts and carried with acclama- tion. The sale of work was closed each evening by the singing of the National Anthem.
