CARNARVON CAPTAIN DROWNED j 'WIFE AND CHILD PROBABLY EYE- j WITNESSES OF THE TRAGEDY. j The following notification appears in Û"e "Shipping Gazette" :— Christiansand, Wednesday.—The British four-masted ship ''Province," Shields, for Christiafiia, went ashore it the Nare, but afterwards got off leaky, and has sunk in deep water. All the crew were saved except the captain. The captain of, the "Province" was Captain Jones, a native of Carnarvon. He was a nephew of Mrs Edwards, Rock House, St. David's-road, Carnarvon. The ship was calling at Christiania for a load of timber en route for Australia. A sad feature of the accident was that Captain Jones's wife and his five-year-old son were with him on the voyage ,and it is very probable thlt they were witnesses of his tragic death. The deceased was about 37 years of age and leaves two children besides his wife and the little boy who were on board. He had taker up his home recently at Portmadoc, and h's mother lived at Criccieth.
