ENTERTAINMENT.—The annual entertain- ment given by the pupils of the Beaumaris Counity Schiool was given. in the TOWill Hall on Thursday evening, when a p-rogrammie of a varied description was provided. The cha-ir was taken by the Mtoyor (Councillor Grey Edwardis). Where such a 'large number take part in the programme it is extremely difficult to singlte out even a few for special) praise, and so we must co-nit-ent ourselves with saying that the perfor- mance, speaking/ generally I, was a thorough success, and reflected great credlit -an, all con- cerned those takinig parb, and those respon- sible foir their training. At the conclusion of the proceedings, the Mayor proposed a vote of thanks to the headmaster (Mr E. LONDON COLLEGE OF MUSIC.—At thie recent examination in connection with this college lield at Baingor, Mr R. CHRISTMASTIDE TRAFFIC.-The traffic on the railway and by the boats this week has been very heavy, several thousand's of harvest- men returning from England by special trains. Owing to the traffic the "Hibernia" (Captain Pinching) had to make a special journey to Dublin on Monday with about 1000 harvest- tmen, liisi ppeasing note that motwitih- ptand'ing the heavy traffic the L. and N.-W. Railway officials were able to cope with the same, and the boats and trains were dispatched with very little loss of time. NAUTICAL ASSESSORS. — Among those whose names appeared in the "London Gazette" on Tuesday, as assessors in Admiralty cases by Itlhe Registrar of the Bar County Court., are: —Captai n W. H. OWen. nEATH OF MR JAMESl HUGHES.—It is with regret that we have to announce the death, on Friday last, of Mr James Hughes, Thomas- &treet, at the age of 89. Deceased, who had been blind for .several years, was the oldest deaicon at the Hyfrydle (C.M.) Chapel, and was respe cted by all who had come in contact. with him. He was a Sunday School teacher and up to ai couple or so of Sundays' ago he was a regular attendant at the school and! the other services. AJthou^rh the crew of 1 five were rescued they suffered' terribly from the cold and the storm. Thev suffered intensely for 27 hours, but they were at last rescued 'by a German vessel. Medical assistance was at once obtained for the suffering crew, and they were sent to a hospital. On Christmas eve, several parties called at the hbuses of the principal residents, singing hymns and carols. CHRISTMAS EVENTS. The weather was iemarkabiy mild on Christ- mas day. In the early morning. The usual service# were held at the Cathedral and some of the other Churches and the Mayor distributed Christmas gifts to the poor of the town. W?rnh?a'T' there was 1uit« a gav scene* The dining hall had been prettily decorated with ho-ly iand mottoes, under the superintendence of Mr and Mrs Jones, the master and matron. The inmates had a capital dinner, and several mem- bers of the Board of Guardians and other ladies and gentlemen were present assisting at. the tables and otherwise helping to make the dav an enjoyable one for all. Gifts of oranges "an<I sweets for the young, together with Christmas cards and toys, were distributed; and the meDl were given tobacce. Most of the leading trcntrv of Anglesey and Carnarvonshire within the Ban- gor Union :had sent suitable presents CARNARVOX. The Christmas rejoicings at Carnarvon this year were of a remarkably quiet character. A41 the Workhouse, the inmates were given theip usual dinner, and several ladies and gentlemen from the town visited the house, taking withl them gifts of various kinds, including toysr sweets and fruits for the children, and something more substantial for the adults. The place had been prettily decorated for the occasion, under) the superintendence of Mr and Mrs Parrv. The Mavor also distributed new coins to the inmates. The poor of the town were not forgotten,, for according to the usual custom, the Mayor dis- tdbubro about 350 canasters of tea among them. Some of the churches and chapels also saw to the needs of the poor, whilst charitably disposed ia dies and gentlemen in the town and dim.rictl contributed handsomely towards making people happy during the festive season. -& The annual preaching services took p]ac at Pendref Chapel. There were large con<'rei'a- tions at each of the services, and the chapel was tuit to overflowing in the evening. The officiat- ing ministers were the Revs Dr Owen Evars, London, and Rowland Hughes, B.D. Bangor the latter gentteman having to be requistioned owing to the serious illness of the Rev Peter Price, of Liverpool. The collection at the meet- ing amounted to more than £30. Carols were sung a.t Llanbeblig and Twthill Oiiureiies, the organists being respectively Miss Prichard, Tower House, and Miss EmilvVhven, '-t. Marys Church was crowded with an a.p- praiative audience. The cantata "Light 3 Life was performed by the Church Choir with a full orchestra, under the leadership of Mi- R, Pughe Griffith.
