MEMS FROM THE MOUNT4
MEMS FROM THE MOUNT4 The meaning of Electrophotomi- crography was asked at a spelling bee in Oxford Street. Some of "the boys" who have been out there were asking how all the delegates, speaking different languages, understood each other at the Peace Conference. It was ex- plained and a Cefnpennar Cymro ex- claimed, Dammo, not a word of Welsh." Even the black hole where the miners put in their 8 hours a day may possibly come as a change. For instance, the story told by Mr. Ned Evans, Miskin, exemplifies it. He knows very well a young soldier just returned from Jerusalem and Juxta places, who said, "It was quite a relief to be in the Navvy." That's the difference between tem- per and temperament. A Caeganv couple constant and true at least till a fC7 nights ago, want somone to help them to make it up again. The wife has been competing for prizes in a missing word competition. Nudging her hubby in bed the other might she asked him to get up and write. "I've just thought of good word, said she. Hub grunted and j "Not I, I've just thought of a ba^ one." Thus, they've drilled. The joke of the soldier who had been "demoralised," has lost favour since the Miskin man who loSt his teeth cannot "domesticate" his- food. *A young soldier was swanking about his French. "What's the meaning of Camouflage, Dai?" he was asked. After scratching his head and getting splinters behind his finger nails,' he had to admit he didn't know. "Ask Jim there," he said as an afterthought, "he ought to know; his battalion was in the next village last October."

Lord Aberdare wrote the committee in- forming them that ho had with- drawn from the contest for the Glamorgan County Council in favour of Mr. Wm. Jones. A Personal Appeal.Ifr. A. J. Kent, hon. sec. of the Sailors' and, Soldiers' Children's Boot Fund, asked for subscriptions personally y from the members of the committee. —Mr. Bruce Jones: Perhaps the Dii-ector will head the list with a good sum.—Director: Perfectly will- ing.—The hat then went round. Staffing,-An application was read from 4 Triangle Mountain Ash, asking for re-instate- mcnt. He was at Bangor College for 12 months prior to joining up. —The Director pointed out that if the college authorities granted pro- visional recognition then the Board would do the same. The Director. further pointed out that in the question of staffing he was afraid that he would have to get rid of some members. Student Teachers' Salaries. Mr. Geo. Hall, on the above matter, was surprised that these teachers were not being paid the war bonus. Director I thought you were fully aware of that, as it was mentioned at the time.—Mr. Brhce Jones re- commended that a small advance be given them, and then perhaps a. small bonus.—ir. Rogers pointed out that the male student teachers were paid fc-10 and females £ 36. At the time thcst" figures were fixed they had no outside figures to go upon. Mr. Bruce Jones proposed that considering those teachers ivcre practical!v apprentices thev were being paid sufficient and that a bonus of 5s. per week be granted. -Mr. (iI"(I, Hall seconded. This was agreed to, the remuneration to be retrospective from January 1st. T^f Bo,11JsjeSj—-The committee de- cided to continue the war bonuses to teachers and attendance officers, for the tunc being.
