I With Full Military Honours FUNERAL AT CEMMAES. Cemmaes village was thrown into mourning on Monday week when news was received of the death in a fiying accident, at Ilford, London, of Captain Iorwerth Gwilym Davies, R.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Davies, Brynderwen, Aberangell, The body was brought to Cemmaes Road on Saturday and placed on a gun carriage pro- vided by the King's Liverpool Regiment, Oswes- try. Eight officers and a large number of ¡ soldiers were present. A firing party with re- versed arms headed the cortege, under the command of Sergeant Lowe, and the officers followed under the command of Capt. Haslam, Oswestr.y. Included in the attendance were Colonel Norton, Dr. A. O. Davies, Dr. W. R. Williams, Libut. Qavies, and Dr. Edwards, Cemmaes Road; Mr. H. H. Meyler, headmaster, II Machynlleth County School, in which deceased was educated; Mr. H. Meredith Roberts, solici- tor; Mr Griffith Griffiths, J.P., Dinas Mawddwy; Mr. Jarrett, Cemmaes; Mr. J. Jenkins, L.P. Bank, MacTiynlleth; Mr. Willie Evans, Mach- ynlleth; Mr. J. Evans Thomas, Liverpool; the Rev. R. J. Thomas, rector of Cemmaes; the Rev. R. C. Evans, Cwmlline, etc., etc. The officers acted as bearers from the gun carriage to the church. A service was held in the Church when the Rev. J. C. Evans read a portion of the Scrip- tures and the Rev. R. W. Jones, Aberangell, took part. The hymns Dwy Aden Colomen Pe Cawn," and "Lead, Kindly Light," were sung, and the Dead March played by the Organist (Mr. J. E. Parry, M.A., Aberangell). The coffin, which was draped with the Union Jack, was borne to the graveside by Messrs. Lewis Rees, Thomas Rees, David Lewis Jones, and John Jones. At the graveside the Rev. David Harris, Bridgend, officiated. Three volleys were fired and the Last Post sounded, with roll of drums. The chief mourners were Mr. Davies, father; Mr. John Davies, brother (invalided out of the army); Mrs. Denton, sister; Mr. and Mrs John Howells, Bridgend, sister and brother-in-law; the Rev. David Howelrs, Bridgend; the Rev J. C. Evans and Mr. J. D. Evans, Borth, uncle and cousin, Lieut. Reynolds (who was in I deceased's flight section); and Lieut. Horlick. The grave was lined with flowers and num- erous wreaths were sent.

HELPINC TO WIN THE WAR. COAL AND GAS BEING SAVED. Most encouraging reports are accumulating from all parts of the country that the public are realising the critical coal situation. In response to the appeal by the Controller, house- holders are studying the whole question thor- oughly. A prominent official of the Coal Controller's Department, who has recently visited and con- sulted with local authorities in England has returned with the conviction that the spirit of the people is excellent and t as people have learned to be economical with food and other things they are now fully determined to save on coal, gas and electricity. Housewives, he finds, are becoming alive more and more to the fact that the wishes of the Coal. Controller that only three-quarters of the fuel ration should be consumed is capable of realisation without undue hardship. They are becoming familiar with the fact that we have to face a shortage of 36,000,000 tons, with all that it means. They realise that the dras- tic alteration entailed in our winter household habits will not be easily accomplished without watchfulness and ingenuity. But a carefiiT study of the regulations and advice issued from time to time bv the Coal Controller will be an invaluable help.

Harris, son of Mr and Mrs. Harris, Ballocliangle, Acton Vale, London, and a younger brother of Mr. Cyril A. Harris, general manager of timber of the Rheidol Estate, visited the latter, accompanied by his father, and stayed with Mr. Harris and family who are residents at Glynrheidol. Private Harris is attached to the Mechanical Transport Section of the A.S.C. and has put in two years' ) service.

PONTRHYDFENDICAID Inspector "Rees Davies, of Bridgend, who is a- native of Pontrhydfendigaid, remembers how the' people of that countryside used to make use of the peat bog which runs for over six miles betwftn Tregaron and Strata Florida. The greater part of the peat was situated on Maeselwad and Rhalltddu Farms. A man who gave two days' harvesting labour to farmers was allowed to cut for fuel as much peat as would last mm fer the year, but in the case of a woman three days' harvesting labour was demanded for the* same privilege, the demand for equal payment for men and women being unknown in those days. The working people carried away the peat in wicker baskets, h' on their shoulders, and stack it beside their cottages. With' a little small coal thrown among it the peat made excellent fires.

WALES AND DISCHARGED SOLDIERS. Wales has good cause to be proud of the fact that no people have made more untiring efforts to help the discharged soldier to settle on the land than the Welsh. It is therefore only fitting that one of the first of the County Training Centres for discharged soldiers who wish to settle on thtfiland, should, be established in Wales. A beginning is^ to be made in Carnarvon- shire through the medium of the British County Homestead Association, who have received an offer from a. leading Welsh agriculturist, to thoroughly train several officers on his own farms.. It is hoped later on to establish centres in other Welsh counties, as large numbers of men, including many Welshmen, are register- ing under the Association's scheme. The co- operation of other Welsh landowners and agri- culturists wilt therefore be welcomed.

How Soldiers cure Sore, Tender Feet, Corns, Bunions, etc. Sergt. C. S. Turner, of the R.A.M.C., also tells what to do for feet that Ache, Burn, Smart, Swell and Blister. Medical men tell us corns. callouses. bunions. et8.. are simply indications of tissue injury to which the feet are susceptible, due to their distance from the heart and consequent defective btood circulation through shoe pressure and great strain. In my case I found that various ad vertise^ powders, ointments, etc., only increased the torture, but simply placing the feet in a hot foot-bath containing a tablespoonful of Reudcl bath saltrates will always afford instant relief and a permanent cure. I Call for the W.A.A.C. MRS. LLOYD GEORGE AT PWLLHELI CINEMA. RECRUITING RALLY. At Pwllheli Cinema on Thursday night, Mrs Lloyd George spoke on behalf of Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps. The Bishop' of St. Asaph, General Cuthberston, and Colonel John Williams, D.D., attended; and A:derman G. Cornelius Roberts (mayor) pre- sided. Mrs Lloyd Geox-ge urged the women of Wales to enrol in order to assist the boys who are speedily bringing the war to a victorious end in France. The men of this country, she stated, underestimated the capacity of women at the beginning of the war and would not trust them to do anything of importance. But to-day women were experts in manufacturing guns, shells, aeroplanes, and even in the shipyards they were doing work which no one ever dreamt that women could accomplish, and thousands of them were giving incalculable assistance in the harvest. Mrs George instanced one woman who herself was looking after and feeding five cows, fourteen bullocks, fifty pigs, and a number of fowls. She assured the meeting that the members of the corps were receiving every care. They were supplied with good food and as the enemy was being beaten and there was an enormous store of munitions the girl muni- tion workers were given shorter hours and had time for healthy recreation and amusement. General Cuthbertson spoke of the magnificent work done by the W.A.A.C.'s at Kinmel Park. The Bishop of St. Asaph dwelt with satis- faction upon the elimination of class differences I and said he knew of the daughter of a man of title who worked on the land and started work at 4.30 every morning. The only boy or girl he felt sorry for now was the one who sat at home with his or her hands crossed doing nothing. He assured the meeting that those who joined the corps would return home at the end of the war much better than if they had stayed at home. (Applause.) Colonel Dr. John Wiliiams said the traiining would improve the girls physically and morally. If the boys bled for 'their country why should not the girls work There was better discip- line in the camps than on many of the hearths of Wales to-day, and girls were much safer there than in some villages and towns. They were expecting some 100,000 to join very soon in order to release that number of young men for the forces. He had had expedience of the capability of women for work on the land afe he had worked with six of them through the previous week, and he would sooner face a har- vest with twelve women than with the same number of men. Dr. Williams referred to a woman tenant farmer who did all the machine mowing on a farrft of 300 acrel. On the proposition of Colonel Lloyd Evans, J.P., a vote of thanks was accorded to the speakers. Several recruits were enrolled after the meeting. The Kinmel Park band was in attendance.

LEAGUE OF NATIONS. In the House of Commons recent. debate on the League of Nations Mr. BaJfour, declar- ing himself a supporter of the idea, complained that the advocates of the League had not put forward any definite scheme. The complaint has now been nullified by the issue of a pamph- let (published at 3d. by the League of Nations Society, London) giving the League's scheme of organisation prepared by a sub-committee with a foreword by the Rgt. Hon. Sir W. H. Dick inson, M.P., the chairman. The schemes does not profess to be more than the result of the labour of a few individuals and is not put for- ward as an authorised or even a considered' scheme by the League of Nations Society.
