the wonderful healing action of that famous herbal balm, Zam-Buk. It is so different from mere ointments, which simply cover up a wound or sore and lock the disease in." Zam-Buk makes sure first that all bad matter is drawn out, and that your flesh is "purified" and j medically cleansed before j healing is allowed to begin. This is the important distinction that t t has made Zam-Buk a household name the world over. When ,7 t is spread over a sore place, it § gets to the bottom" of the soreness. It kills the germs that are the cause of the inflammation and swelling. It expels all poisonous matter. Then when the flesh has been made "clean in a medical sense, Zam-Buk causes new healthy I skin to grow all over the place. This is why there is no I "going back," no later "breaking out" when Ulcers, Piles, Eczema, Bad Legs, Scalp Disease, or any sore place has been properly treated by the unique Zam-Buk method. It is best to use only this famous herbal balm, which is free from all trace of animal fat. Zam-Buk

Borth Seaman. Seaman RICHARD DAVIES, R.N.R., W esleyan-pkue, has a son, brother, and nephew in the navy and a son in the armv. He has been thanked by the Admiralty tor his excellent work. When the <;Van [Stirum, a 1.9€0-toii steamer, was nearing lui\ erpool last Christmas Day she was attacked by two enemy submarines. After an attempt to escape the Captain decided to abandon his ship and took to the boats. Two men were left on board to lower the boats, but one was killed owing to the submarine a tcrpedo. Five shells were then fired at the ship. Despite her damage the ship remained afloat. On Christmas Day one of the patrol vessels of the Auxiliary Fleet which had discovered the Van 3tinnn" and lowered a boat with four hands, of whom Seaman Richard Dav'es, Borth, was one, to tow the ship into port. The four brave men pulled to tilt, side and clambered aboard. No sooner had the last man got up than the boat was smashed to pieces against the ship's side and immediately sank. They found that the vessel had been torpedoed in the engine room. The party successfully set the hawser from the oort bow to the attendant trawler; but as the steering gear h.d been jammed she became un- controllable. Meanwhile the gallant four remained at the;r post on board. The lieutenant in charge of the trawler made up his mind that Ire would save them. THE QUESTION OF HEALTH.
THE QUESTION OF HEALTH. There is an old saying "A stitch in time "a v es nine," and if upon the lirst symptom* jt anythng being wrong with our health we were to resort to some simple but proper mean, of correcting the mischief, nine tenths of the suffering that invades oux homes would be avoided. The body is a machine full of intricate and delicate mechanicism and when one part is im- peded it gradually throws the whole out of gear unless it is quickly put right. A cold, a chill, a touch of indigestion or liver complaint, a pain in the loins or the little indiscretions to which in the hurry and turmoil of life we are all prone (such as -atitig too quickly, not taking sufficient .st, worrying too much over our troubles, etc.. etc.), all tend to bring about a dead look in some part of the human mechanicism or a weakening or slowing down of the whole. A good bracing tonic, one that will revitalise and will wind up all the mach- inery, will at such tmes work greater wonders than a long course of nauseous medicines. A dose of Gwilym Evans' Quinine Bitters taken when you feel the least bit out of sorts is just that "stitch in time." The question of health is a matter which is sure to concern us at one time or another, especially when Influenza is so prevalent as it is just now. so it is well to know what to take to ward off an attack of this most weakening disease, this epidemic, catarh, or cold of an aggravated kind to combat it whilst under its baleful influence, and particularly after an attack, for then the system is so lowered as to be I liable to the most dangerous of complaint* Gwilym Evans' Quinine Bitters is acknow ledged by all who have given it fair trial to be the best specific remedy for dealing with Influenza in all its various stages. being a preparation skilfully prepared with t Quinine and accompanied with other blood purifying and enriching agents, suitable fr* th« liv<»r. digest'on. and all those ail ments requiring tonic strengthening and nerve proT)Prtei. It is invalu- able for those suffering with colds i),ieiimon;a, or any serious illness, or prostration caused by sleeplessness, or worry of anv kind, when the body has a general feeling of weakness and lassitude Don't delay, but try it now. Send for a copy of the pamphlet of testimonials, which carefully read and consider well. then buy a bottle (sold in two sizes. 2s. 9d. and 4s. 6d.) at your nearest Cherri'st or Stores, hnt when purchasing see that the name "<w jyrn Evans" is on the label, stamp and }.t.tlp for without whieh none are :rp!1nine.

Farmers' jumble sales are becoming as numerous in the Domin ons as in this country. One of the most recent contri- butions to the Agricultural Relief of Allies Fund (16, Bedford-square, London) is a cheque for £240 from Manawatu, New Zealand, the result of a sale pro- moted by the Manawatu Agricultural Association. It is rumoured that after Monday, November 20, the price of the "Times" will be increased to lid. a day. We under- stand also that certain important daily papers will probably follow suit within the next six weeks. The cost of the produc- tion of newspapers has risen in a ratio out of proportion to almost any other neces- sity in daily life.
