The dulness which prevails in the Money Market towards the close of the week was apparent this morning, and notwithstanding the probability that the Directors of the Bank of England will adhere to their policy of not reducing the minimum for some time, and that rates eritl may consequently be considered as having reached the lowest point, the demand was not stimulated. This appears rather at variance with sound action on the p. rt of those who require discount account accommodation, for few would have the temerity to predict that an upward movement in rates is an event without the pale of possibility. The causes which at present are operating in preventing a further decline in rates are the demands for harvest and the forthcoming instalment of the Gir- many indemnity, both of which must be satisfied before money in the market can lie further diminished in value. Rates remain at ;A 4 pei cent. for good bills. MARK LANE, September 2. There were large supplies of foreign Wheat last week, the other arrivals being moderate. English Wheat 4,275 qrs., foreign 52,69"2 qrs. Exports 2,470 (Irs. The show of tresh samples this morning was moderate, and again too poor in quality to command more money, sales being slow but anything really fine, either new or old, would have brought Is. to 2s. more. There was a fair demand for foreign, especially red American and fine Russian, at is. to 2s. per qr. more money. Country Florr 16,794 sacks, foreign 13,411 sacks, 536 barrels. For Norfolks rather more money was demanded, and some would not sell without. All descriptions of fine foreign, whether in barrels or sacks, were rather against buyers. British Barley none, foreign 3,897 qrs. With nothing of home growth, and a very fhort foreign supply, prices were 6d. to Is. higher, especially for anything tine. Exports 1,087 qrs. The Malt trade was very firm for all fine qualities, but not quoted higher. Maize 11,719 qrs. This grain has improved in value fully (jrl. per qr., with more demand. English Oats 292 qrs., 32,045 qrs. foreign. The limited arrivals gave tone to the trade, and all descriptions were up 6d. per qr., fresh corn in some instances realising more. Native Beans 152 qrs., foreign 1,950 qrs. The trade was steady, at unaltered'rates. English Peas 132 qrs., foreign 5 qrs. The scarcity of white boilers has raised values Is. perqr. Steadiness has been the feature of the Cattle trade to-day. The supply of foreign Beasts has been moderate, including 343 Spanish, 30 Portuguese, 58 Gothenburg, and 334 Dutch. A healthy inquiry has been experienced, and the best breeds have lJfttde 5s. lOd. per 8 lbs. As regards the receipts from our own grazing districts, they have been above an average. There have been some 1,150 from Leicestershire, 20 Norfolk, about 500 from other parts of England, and 8 from Aberdeen.
