ABERYSTWYTH. RUMOURED RESIGNATION.—The rumour that Mr. J. W. Thomas is about to retire from the Council has no foundation in fact. ST. MICHAEL'S.—On Sunday, November 3rd, the Rev. H. Hutchinson preached a sermon at St. Michael's Church on behalf of the Marquis of Lome's fund for the augmentation of small livings. THK NEW WELSH WESLEYAN CHAPEL.—Mr. T. H. Jones, Great Darkgate-street, who laid one of the memorial stones of the new chapel last week, gave £100 towards the building fund. THE ABERCARNE COLLECTION.—The Rev. J. Vicars writes to say that the £3 lis. (id. towards the Abercarne Relief Fund was collected in the English Wesleyan Chapel, and not in the Welsh, as was stated last week. NtGHT SCHOOL.—The night school commenced this week favourably. No fewer than thirty-six boys entered, and twenty-two girls. The teaching staff comprises Mr. Williams, the assistant master of the Board Schools, Mr. Lewis Pugh, Miss Nicklin, and Miss Eye. CHEAP BREAD.—It is said that notwithstanding the re- duction in the price of the four-pound loaf at Aberyst- wyth to 7d., it is still ljd. dearer than in England. The people have to pay for living in small towns, and yet tradesmen cannot understand why people go away for goods. CONCERT.—It will be seen on reference to our adver- tising columns that Mr. D. Jenkins, Mus. Bac. will give a concert in the Temperance Hall, next Tuesday evening, Nov. 12. The piece to be performed is the Cantata, The Ark of the Covenant," for which Mr. Jenkins was awarded the prize at the Carnarvon eisteddfod. PETTY SESSIONS, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6.- Before David Roberts, Esq., mayor, Isaac Morgan, Esq., John Davies, Esq., and JohnRees, Esq. Kntnkenness.— Wm. Edwards, hawker. Trefechan, who had been previously convicted, was fined 15s., and costs, for having been drunk on November 4th. Defendant dkl not appear. A usa it It. —Thomas Edwards, hawker, Trefechan, son of Owen Edwards, and Thomas Edwards, son of William Edwards, were charged by John Richards, Red Lion Inn, with assaulting him on November 5th in his own house.— Complainant and his daughter gave evidence to the effect that the two defendants went to the Red Lion on Tuesday night, and asked for a quart of beer. It was supplied, and they asked for a second, which was also supplied. Mrs. Edwards, the landlady, asked for payment, and then the defendants dashed the second quart of beer in her fac. The landlord came out, and then defendants struck him in the face, kicked him, and otherwise abused him.—The Bench inflicted a fine of 2 in each case in default, one month's hard labour.
