OSWESTRY. A CURIOUS COLLECTION.—Six weeks ago a man named John Pryce Moss, a labourer, was admitted very ill to the Oswestry Workhouse, and there remained till Friday last, when he died. It was found after his death that he had at his home several large boxes, which were taken possession of by the Union Authorities, and on being opened, dis- closed one of the most extraordinary collections of miscellaneous articles ever presented to mortal eyes. The following are a few of the articles discovered:— Eight or nine pounds of common white pebbles, known as !'jackstones." eight or nine pounds of nails wrapped up in small parcels, a large quantity of different sorts of nuts, a sword, about 24 walking- sticks, finished and unfinished, a large number of silk pocket-handkerchiefs, about 70 tobacco pipes, eight or nine pounds of string in small pieces, stockings, gloves, razors, some old-fashioned gaudy pieces of cloth for waistcoats, cloth ready for making up into suits, old pieces of brass and iron, books, the whole forming a most extraordinary collection. It was known in the neighbourhood that the old man had these boxes, and a good deal of curiosity had been shown as to what the contents might be, but although some people professed to know, it is probable that no one was really aware of what the boxes contained, as the old man was very silent on the point. He was always rather an eccentric character, and had lived in the neighbour- hood for many years. SINGULAR FATAL ACCIDENT.—An adjourned inquest was held on Monday, at Oswestry, before Dr. Lewis, borough coroner, upon the body of Andrew Hayes, aged 16, whose parents live at Vron, near Ellesmere. On Friday evening, shortly before eight o'clock, he was requested by Mr. Kynaston, a farmer and butcher, living at the Pant, to hold his horse, which was standing near the Smithfield. The lad, it appears, got on the animal's back while Mr. Kynaston was away. The animal reared and fell clean back, with the lad under him. The unfortunate youth was instantly killed. A verdict of li Accidentally killed was returned.
