R, HORNSBY AND SONS' ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY OF ENGLAND'S FIRST PRIZE PATENT PARAGON MOWER, & REAPER. SPECIAL IMPROVEMENTS. t The finger bar can be raised to pass over the swathes. The side draught is overoome, and the weight of the pole taken off the horses' neck. All nuts are locked to prevent them shaking loose. An entirely new pattern frame, which is stronger, lighter and more durable than hitherto. The cutting-bar is brought more in a line with the axle of the road wheel than before, so as to ride more easily over inequalities of land. A new pattern of double-plated fingers, which allow all dirt to pass away without liability to cleg the knives. Efficient oiling appliances to all bearings.. In the Combined Machine the inconvenience of changing the pole-plate is now done away with, as no additional pole-plate is required. The necessary change of position is effected by sliding the pole-plate along the patent bar provided for the purpose, and the alteration is easily and quickly made. These, with other valuable improvements in the details, render these machines still the best for per- fection of principle and thorough efficiency. The three varieties of this Machine, marked" 0" "A N gained respectively the First, Second, and Third Prizes at the last great trials of the Royal Agricultural Society of England, at Taunton, 1875. LOCAL MINING INTELLIGENCE. + (From the Mining World.) MONYDD GORDDU (22rd Aug.)—The engine shaft is down between 6 and 7 fms. below the 12, and would have been several feet deeper if the sinking1 could have been continued with regularity, but we are frequently interrupted through scarcity of water. We have been sinking since Monday, but without a. change shall have to stop after to-morrow, because we cannot draw the stuff to surface that is broken in sinking. There is still a lode in the stope west of winze, worth £ 16 per fm. We have large piles of lead stuff again on the dressing floors waiting to be crashed and dressed. PHILOLOGICAL CONTRARIETIES.—A gentleman, having an appointment with another who was habit- ually unpunctual, to his great surprise found him waiting. He thus addreseed him Why, I see you are here at last. You were always behind before, but I am glad to see you have become early of late." We have lately submitted to examination, unknown to the importers, Messrs. Feltoe and Sons, of Albe. inarle-street, London, several samples of the wine sold by them under the distinctive title of "Specialitc" Sherry. It is of good flavour and pure quality. The reason why I ask is that I have lately been shown some coins dug up from the foundations of an old church, one of which, about the size of a sixpence, silver, has a face as above described, and letters which appear to make HENRICVS REX.' But the date is illegible. On the obverse were several letters, which I could not decipher, filling up the interspacea of a double cross. Along with this coin were found two of copper, one with a legible date, 1694, and the figure of Britanmia; and on the other side a King's head and Gulielmas" The other coin was much worn, but seemed to be a. halfpenny of Queea Anne's reign.
