PROPOSED GREAT SWANSEA -THOROUGHFARE.-------
PROPOSED GREAT SWANSEA THOROUGHFARE. A much reduced drawing by q, Leader artist from the plans of the big arterial thoroughfare scheme by the Borough Engineer, which the Swansea Highways. Coinrmttee suggests the. Council should adopt. The drawing is obviously not to scale, and is therefore, unreliable as to the existing comparative widths of streets and the actual amount of widening which it suggested, but it gives a capital idea of the ex- tent of the scheme and the sweep of the new thoroughfare it and when it materialises. It need hardly be pointed cut that if the scheme is adopted, it will do no more than lay clown a building line back to winch all future erections in these streets will have to come, and that the complete, thoroughfare will take prooably a generation to realise. The scheme rests upon the theory that In the future Swansea the trams will have to be diverted from Oxford-street, which will be left as a shopping centre.

LLANDILO BRIDGE MART.I
LLANDILO BRIDGE MART. I At Llandilo.Bridge auction mart there I was a very big entry of fat crtttlc. Two hundred and fifty were brought in. of which 97 were graded, most or which were well finished cattle, some being of a stiper-srade quaiity. The en. of si toe p was up to the average, but only n fifth of what nas requiitvd on peniiit, hence a few cattle were substituted for sheep. There was an average supply of small pigs, and trade in this depart- ment was not brisk except for the stronger ones; prices rangod from 27s. to 10os. There were about :3,j calves, for which there was a brisk demand, and these sold at prices ranging from £:3 to £8 apiece. Three cows and calves met with a fair demand, and made up to TIJG auctioneer was Mr. TV. X. Jones, J. P., Pyffryn. Ammanford. The graders were Messrs. James Hobbs, the. Home Farm, Golden Grove, and Jonathan Jones, butcher. Ammanford. The super-grader was Mr. John Thomas, of Burryport

EX-SOLDIERS' STALLS. I In connection with the ex-soldiers' [open-air market, the manager said that the men's federation had arranged to notify him of tlie number of men they were sending out, in order that others who did the same thing should not avoid the toll. Councillor Hill suggested the dis- charged men who occupied the space, in front of the Golden Griffin should be in- duced to shilt their stall to a pitch a!- mot as convenient around the corner near the Pictorium, because the passing car. rendered the position somewhat dangerous. Mr Slieeliaii said that they should uvji" interfere with the men at all, but rather they should do everything to en- courage them. Mr. Hill, however, retorted that he wanted to help the men as much J's any- body, but he only mentioned the fact on account of the vvossible danger. The matter dropped.
